Valdimar Jóhannsson’s Icelandic-Swedish-Polish drama “Lamb,” starring Noomi Rapace was awarded best film and actress for Rapace at the 54th edition of Sitges’ International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, which wrapped Sunday.
The prizes add to an Originality Prize which the film received when competing at July’s Cannes Un Certain Regard.
“Lamb,” a horror-comedy combo, follows protagonist Maria, played by Rapace, a woman living with her husband in the total loneliness of the Icelandic countryside. According to a Variety review, “creepy-funny-weird-sad ‘Lamb’ proves just how far disbelief can be suspended if you’re in the hands of a director — and a cast, and a SFX/puppetry department — who really commit to the bit.” Lamb is produced by Go to Sheep, Black Spark Film & TV and Madants with New Europe Film Sales and A24 attached.

Hey, Toronto! Twitch is proud to present Dancing With The Devil - an extensive retrospective of Spanish maverick Alex de la Iglesia unspooling at the Tiff Bell Lightbox. Things continue this week with a February 21st screening of his Common Wealth and we want to give you tickets!De la Iglesia's deliciously dark and macabre comedy of murders takes a setup akin to Sam Raimi's A Simple Plan and Danny Boyle's Shallow Grave and gives it a loopily absurdist twist. After moving into a new apartment, middle-aged real estate agent Julia (Almodóvar regular Carmen Maura) discovers a huge cache of cash that belonged to the recently deceased former tenant. Whereas the Raimi and Boyle films chronicled how their corrupt crews of conspirators gradually imploded due to...

Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia returns with Witching and Bitching, a nod to his particular brand of zany, over-the-top genre comedy that marked some of his better known titles from 1990s, particularly The Day of the Beast (1995). Bigger budgets and a cadre of returning cast members from his filmography make his latest film of a higher pedigree than those roughhewn beginnings, but the director still insists on bloating his running time as an overstuffed extravaganza. As usual, this gilds the energetic exuberance to a desensitizing mass of standout moments rising out of chintzy, cheeseball antics.

The last Common Wealth Games which took places in India had created its share of controversy. Though the litigation on the alleged corrupt malpractices that came to light later is still ongoing, there was a new development on Monday. A Delhi court dealing with a Cwg related corruption case said two of the accused promoters had paid Rs. 71.73 lakhs for actor Shilpa Shetty's performance in the closing ceremony of 2008 Cwg Youth Games at Pune "merely to fulfill the last moment wish" of Suresh Kalmadi.
It is learnt that promoters of Faridabad-based Gem International, Pd Arya and Ak Madan, representing Swiss Timing, which was awarded the contract to install Timing, Scoring and Results (Tsr) system for the 2010 Cwg at inflated rates, had paid the money which was "arranged beyond the scope of work".
Further it was stated that both the accused were associated with the Cwg Youth Games 2008 and had paid Rs.

In horror films, old dark houses have their place, but as hell is other people apartments are far spookier
In Dream Home, the owners of the flat on which Josie Ho is about to exchange contracts suddenly jack the price up beyond her reach, so she goes on a killing spree in the apartment block. Who can blame her? As anyone who has ever been gazumped, gazundered or gaziddled can attest, being cheated out of the property on which you've set your heart is enough to make anyone think bad thoughts, though I'd like to believe not many of us would go as far as Josie in the disembowelling and penis-lopping stakes.

Grab hold of your chakras we're heading into the spirit world. On October 16th, San Francisco's Bird By Snow hiked three miles up to a secluded wooded grove in Big Sur, taking a few instruments and a toy Japanese camera with them into the fog. They came to a big oak tree and crafted a uniquely percussive sculpture from fallen branches (along with some twine, home-made ceramic chimes and a cymbal), and raised it in the boughs of the oak. This became the rhythmic centerpiece of a transcendent live performance series which we have here for your contemplation.
Friend of the band, Noël Vietor, documented this ascension with the toy camera, which adds a kind of mystical charm all it's own. Watch these Druids conjure music where there had been only whispers in the mist.

Seems like after the Ar Rahman tragedy, as far as the anthem for the Common Wealth Games goes, many from the Bollywood singing fraternity are ready to pitch in to make this event a grand one. The first to be approached is Sukhwinder Singh who has given some real gems to Bollywood. Sukhwinder has now been approached to sing his most popular song 'Kawa Kawa' from Monsoon Wedding for the closing ceremony of the Common Wealth Games. Now we hear that music composer and singer Anand Raj Anand will also be composing two songs for the Cwg. If what we hear is anything to go by then the two songs titled - 'Invitation' and 'Celebration' - have a common slogan - Come out and play, with the first being a heart warming track and the second is said to be a foot tapping peppy number. Both the songs are said to have a thick Punjabi flavour with loads of energy. What's more, Anand will also be performing the songs at the opening ceremony of the games. Enough has been said about the Common Wealth Games this year to be held in Delhi. Right from corruption to shady jobs and sportsmen backing out, many hurdles have come in the organising of the whole show. However, one thing that everyone was positively looking forward to was the motivational and energetic Common Wealth Theme song to be composed by the revered A R Rahman. The conference where the song was to be launched, well, didn't have the song but the details about it. The reason was that back then the Cwg committee wanted the song to be tweaked and releasing it without the necessary changes would've been foolhardy. Despite all this, everyone was expecting a highly inspiring anthem from Rahman, given his current status in world music. However, after the song came out on the internet, the response was far from encouraging. Rahman fans weren't just disappointed, they were actually shocked.

This is where funny gets funnier. There have been endless speculations and criticism following the Common Wealth Games (Cwg) right from incongruous work to corruption, that any and every ray of light seems spectacular. No wonder then that when a press conference was called announcing the composition that would be the Anthem for the Cwg the media was abuzz. Ar Rahman whose composition would've been unveiled at this P.C. was especially flown down for the event. But the organising committee blew this one as well when they decided last minute to withhold the song for reasons unknown. After being urged by the media, Rahman did sing one line from the anthem "O Yaron Yeh India Bula Diya". It was last Sunday that the Group of Ministers had approved the Rahman's song after a meeting which was headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. It was a song that took the...

On Monday, October 5, shooting commenced on Exorcismus, the latest fear film to come out of Spain’s Filmax studios. As with so many Spanish genre productions of the last decade, this one is also directed by a relative newcomer to feature filmmaking, Manuel Carballo (taking over for originally slated Luis de la Madrid). And in common with most of the company's previous horror movies (such as Arachnid, Dagon, Darkness, The MacHinist and Beyond Re-animator), the movie is being filmed with a multinational cast in English, on locations in and around the city of Barcelona.
The cast includes Resident Evil: Apocalypse’s Sophie Vavasseur (pictured), Richard Felix from Filmax’s Fragile, which still has yet to see U.S. release, Hellraiser stalwart Doug Bradley and the first Resident’s Stephen Billington. The movie has already been presold to a dozen countries, including Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Poland, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. Most...
