Brace yourselves. This list of the Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here at AfterElton.
But before we get to that, an introduction. A few weeks ago we asked AfterElton readers to submit up to ten of their favorite films by write-in vote. We conducted a similar poll several years ago, but a lot has happened culturally since then, and a number of worthy movies of gay interest have been released. We wanted to see how your list of favorites had changed.
We also wanted to expand our list to 100 from the top 50 we had done previously. We figured there were finally enough quality gay films to justify the expansion. And we wanted to break out gay documentaries onto their own list (You'll find the...

Rachel Weisz in The Whistleblower The Toronto International Film Festival has added even more films to their line-up today as the complete line-up was announced, which ended up causing the festival's server to crash, but I was lucky enough to get in and get out before missing out on the information.
First off, the festival's Mavericks line-up is quite interesting, which includes a series of guest presentations and this year will see Edward Norton interview Bruce Springsteen, NBA All-Star and native Canadian Steve Nash will present his hour-long film Into the Wind, Apichatpong Weerasethakul will talk with the audience as his Cannes Palm d'Or-winning film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall his Past Lives was just added to the Masters programme, Ken Loach and Paul Laverty will be interviewed by Michael Moore on politics and cinema and Philip Seymour Hoffman will have his own panel. Also on hand will be Bill Gates,...

Jersey City native Allan Arkush has enjoyed a prolific career in television, currently producing and directing for the hit series “Heroes.”
He started in show business at Bill Graham’s legendary Fillmore East concert theater in New York City, then worked for the equally legendary low-budget movie producer Roger Corman. 2009 marks the 30th anniversary of Arkush’s solo directorial debut, the beloved cult classic Rock ‘n Roll High School.
I met with Arkush in his home office in West Los Angeles, and tried to keep from drooling all over his killer record collection.
Did you go to Springsteen last night? I thought he was amazing.
Allan Arkush: He really was. I thought it was interesting that he started out with some fairly dark songs: “Badlands,...

Alex Boling and Larry Sullivan
Up until now most of us probably knew ABC Family's The Secret Life of the American Teenager as "that one where Molly Ringwald has the pregnant kid". But we just got word that tonight's episode features two gay characters as a part of the central episode plot.
In tonight's episode, pregnant teen Amy Juergens (I'm not even kidding - I swear) is presented with a couple to potentially adopt her unborn kid. Apparently Brad and Angelina were unavailable, but Amy's father, George Juergens (sorry, I can't get over that name!) thinks that his gay coworker and his hubby might be the perfect adoptive 'rents.
As far as the gays go (who are Not named Juergens, from what I can tell), they're played by Alex Boling (who plays Donovan) and Larry Sullivan (who plays Leon), whom you may recognize from the gay flick The Trip.
