"John Wick: Chapter 4" is still a few weeks away, but critics (including myself) are calling it the best "Wick" film yet. That's no small praise for a fourth movie in a popular franchise, but director Chad Stahelski and his team have pulled it off, largely because they wouldn't have made the movie if they didn't think they could top themselves.
"You can't just go bigger," Stahelski explained to me in my conversation with him about the film. "You can't just go more explosions. You have this circumference of excellence that if everybody does their one inch of growth, you get a bigger circumference. And that's what I think we keep doing in the 'Wicks' is, if we all trust each other to get a little bit better at what we do, the synergistic effect is much greater than any one person trying to do a bigger explosion."
That's not...

Anne Heche To Marry... A Man
E! is reporting that Anne Heche has accepted a proposal of marriage from her boyfriend Coley Laffoon. Following tabloid reports about her shopping for a wedding gown, Heche's manager confirmed to E! News Daily that Heche and Laffoon were indeed engaged. Though Heche spent three and a half years in a highly-publicized lesbian relationship with Ellen Degeneres, her more public relationships, before and after Ellen, have been with men. Prior to dating DeGeneres, she was romantically linked with Steve Martin for a time. As Heche comes off of a guest-stint on Ally McBeal and prepares for the release of her upcoming film, John Q, DeGeneres is preparing a new sitcom to premiere later this year, about a lesbian Internet executive who returns to her Midwestern hometown, echoing the premise of John Goodman's failed sitcom entry, Normal, Ohio. Ellen Degeneres To Return To Series Television
Things have not been going well for Ellen DeGeneres. She split from long-time lover Anne Heche, who is now in a heterosexual relationship, and her TV series was dropped by ABC when ratings flagged following her and her character coming out of the closet. Ellen claimed the cancellation was due to negative reaction to her homosexuality. Some critics have retorted that such claims are rubbish; the show just wasn't that funny when people thought she was straight, and despite a burst of inspired creativity surrounding her coming out of the closet, the show's death came because it gradually returned to the same tired comic premises that had failed to inspire viewership in the past. But now the funny lady has been resurrected by CBS. The series, to be shown next year, sees her play a lesbian who returns to her hometown in the Midwest... a premise that sounds not unlike Fox's current series, "Normal, Ohio" (2000), starring John Goodman as a gay man who returns to his hometown in the Midwest. CBS president Leslie Moonves promises, "She will be a gay woman, but it's not going to hit it over the head."...
