Some of the creepy background music was earlier used in Red Rose.
This film was delayed for nearly 5 years and it was released about 3 years after Neetu Singh's marriage.
The background music used in the end of the Prem Nath/Feroz Khan confrontation scene in Dharmatma (horn music) was inspired from 0:06 of the song "You Can't Even Walk In The Park" - Shaft In Africa, by Stanley Maxfield Orchestra. You Cant Even Walk In The Park was also used in Jadoo Tona. The scene when Feroz Khan drives his car. The same type of horn arrangement was used as music in the beginning of the police truck scene (Amitabh and Shetty's iconic fight) in Don. The similar horn back ground music was used in the film Police Public and 100 Days in a few scene's. In the movie Teesri Aankh Sarika is seen dancing to the song "You Can't Even Walk in The Park Opening Theme" from Shaft in Africa . The same song was also used as back ground music in Ek Gunaah Aur Sahi.
Rajesh Khanna was signed for the film but later replaced by Shatrughan Sinha.
There was a story in the media that a drunk Dharam grabbed the director. He told him he would no longer shoot for the film unless he would be given a proper narration of the story. This was a shocker as the film as the film was 12 reels complete.
