Megalopolis’ fake critic quotes are nothing new – Columbia Pictures invented a whole movie reviewer in the early 2000s.
Here’s an odd story from the turn of the century, when the Sony-owned Columbia Pictures decided it needed a bit more control over what critics were saying. More to the point, more control over what poster quotes the studio gleaned from said critics.
Currently, there’s an odd story about seemingly-invented quotes for a selection of Francis Ford Coppola films, attributed to some well-known film critics, in the now-deleted trailer for his upcoming opus, Megalopolis. That’s a film whose name doesn’t get easier to type over time, incidentally.
Yet back in the early 2000s, Columbia Pictures didn’t just make up poster quotes, it made up an entire film critic. A man by the name of David Manning, who seemed to be rather keen, wouldn’t you know,...

It’s prom night 2008 and Donna Keppel is planning to wear a champagne-colored dress. Corseted, with pink and gold beads. Unfortunately, it might also get splattered with blood and tears, because the teacher who’s obsessed with her has broken out of the mental hospital, tracked her down to the prom venue, and is ready to make sure she’ll be his forever. Even if that means having to slaughter her friends first. That’s the story of the 2008 version of Prom Night (watch it Here) – and if you haven’t seen this one, it might be the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw.
The Prom Night franchise began with the release of a 1980 slasher movie which starred scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis as a young woman who has to deal with a ski mask-wearing maniac crashing her prom. People are stabbed and hacked, knocked off a cliff, decapitated, throats are slit,...

Out now on VOD is Walking Against the Rain, the debut feature of director Scott Lyus that brings apocalyptic creature feature mayhem in the form of full-body practical creature effects.
Bloody Disgusting has an exclusive clip that introduces Tommy (Reece Douglas) as he attempts to make first contact with Blair (Sophia Eleni), but he’ll have to survive an attack from one of the film’s brand new monster creations, The Forsaken, first.
The monstrous Forsaken are brought to life via full-body practical creature effects from BIFA-winning FX designer Dan Martin (Infinity Pool).
Walking Against the Rain follows “the story of Blair and Tommy, two strangers who traverse an empty landscape in search of each other, relying only on their two soon-to-die battery-operated radio mics for communication. As they try to evade a new evil monster, they confront loss and grief and learn to trust humanity once again.”

Writer-director Scott Lyus made something of an impact on the film festival circuit with his short film Black Mass and now he’s back with his first feature, Walking Against the Rain, which explores a familiar post-apocalyptic theme but puts a wonderfully different spin on things!
The film follows two strangers, Blair and Tommy are navigating their way across a barren landscape in a desperate attempt to find each other. With their only form of communication being two soon-to-die battery-operated radio microphones and with a new evil in the shape of ‘The Forsaken’ tracking them down, they must not only make their way to a rendezvous point but also merely survive.

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work, specifically the Appendices of The Lord of the Rings. The series is a prequel to the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and is set during Arda’s Second Age, when the Rings of Power are first created. Like any good fantasy series, The Rings of Power has an expansive cast of characters whose stories will weave through each other to determine the fate of Middle-earth. Here are the Elves, Dwarves, Humans, and Harfoots that will feature prominently throughout this season.

Peter Yates’ excellent war-movie follow-up to Bullitt landed in the wrong year: the beautifully produced and directed action thriller was barely seen in America. Royal Navy mechanic Peter O’Toole swears vengeance on the U-Boat commander who sunk his ship and murdered its entire crew. Locals in a Caribbean backwater help him to strike back: he must first teach himself to fly an airplane. With support from Horst Janson, Sian Phillips and the great Philippe Noiret, it’s a wartime suspense nail-biter with a little manic obsession thrown in as well. Indicator’s extras feature the great editor-director John Glen, who relates the exciting story of the filming on location in Venezuela.

Indian director Jiju Antony’s “A Miracle of Love,” selected at Busan’s Asian Project Market, is informed by the filmmaker’s own life experience.
“The script is heavily inspired by an episode from my personal experiences in raising my son who’s living with autism,” Antony tells Variety. “There are thousands of defining moments in our journey with him. A milestone incident from that journey became the crux of this project. It was such a fulfilling experience in real life, I was feeling blissful while writing towards that defining incident in the script.”
The film will take a peep into a family’s life on either side of a weekend, about the demons they fight in their heads and how relationships get stretched. At the same time, it will also explore how people with radically different perspectives of life can bring a positive change.

As subscription-based, on-demand gaming services have gained popularity in recent years, both PlayStation Now and Xbox Game Pass have established their positions at the top of the market by offering a variety of content and great value for subscribers. There’s just one burning question demands to be answered: Which one is better?
It’s a tough one. Each has advantages over the other – Ps Now has more attractive pricing plus its library of 700+ titles makes Game Pass’ library of around 200 look paltry in comparison, whereas Xbox Game Pass tends to offer more recent games as well as including first party titles on the day of release.
It’s hard to say which one is better overall, but taken one month at a time, we may get our answer. So join us as we look at what’s been added and what was removed from each service and declare which...

The Quinn Colson novels by Ace Atkins are being developed as a TV series at HBO, Variety has learned exclusively.
In the books, Colson is a former Army Ranger who returns to his home in rural northeast Mississippi. But upon returning, he discovers that where he grew up has been overrun with corruption, drugs, and violence.
There are currently 10 novels in the Quinn Colson series, starting with “The Ranger.” Others include “The Lost Ones,” “The Broken Place,” “The Forsaken,” and “The Redeemers.”
In addition to writing the Quinn Colson novel series, Atkins also took over Robert B. Parker’s Spenser character following Parker’s death in 2010. He has written eight novels in the Spenser series since. That includes “Wonderland,” which was subsequently adapted into the Mark Wahlberg-Winston Duke film “Spenser Confidential.” Atkins is a former newspaper reporter and SEC football player who also writes essays and investigative pieces for various publications.

Next month, Hulu will ring in Valentine’s Day with some counterprogramming. The streaming service will debut its original series “High Fidelity,” a gender-swapped reimagining of Nick Hornby’s novel of the same name. Previously, the book was adapted into a 2000 movie from Stephen Frears starring John Cusack. On the film front, the “Bridget Jones” trilogy, “Buffalo ’66,” “The Fugitive,” “Ghost” and “When Harry Met Sally” are among the new selections being offered in February. Releases from last year, like “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” and “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral,” are also making their way onto the platform.
New seasons of reality series like “The Voice” and “American Idol” will also be available to stream later in the month.

If it wasn't already clear that Randolph Bell has evolved since the first season of The Resident, his compassionate plea to the board during The Resident Season 2 Episode 16 confirms it.
After the heart-pounding and terrifying events of The Resident Season 2 Episode 15 that nearly cost Henry his life, Bell has taken it upon himself to appeal to the board in hopes of cutting ties with QuoVadis.
For those of you (like myself) who have been dying for more of Conrad's father, Marshall is shown in the clip, and he's backing and fully supporting Bell.

In the latest influx of Chinese cash to come Hollywood’s way, the veteran Hollywood producer Scott Einbinder has officially launched a Los Angeles-based finance and production company with the full backing of China’s East Light Film Company.
Cristal Pictures will produce and finance mid-to-high range English-language features for global theatrical distribution. The company has the capacity to fully finance projects as official Chinese co-productions or as films that can be distributed in China through the import quota.
Chris Liu of Beijing and Hong Kong-based East Light will serve as co-ceo alongside Einbinder after East Light raised equity from Chinese, Hong Kong and South East Asian investors to back the venture.
Cristal recently co-financed and co-produced Millennium Films’ Hitman’s Bodyguard, an action-comedy in post-production starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel Jackson, Gary Oldman and Salma Hayek.
Patrick Hughes directs and Lionsgate will distribute wide in North America on August 16, 2017. Cristal retains Chinese distribution rights and plans to release...

J.S. Cardones 2001 bloodsucker tale The Forsaken has a few really good things going for it. Actor Johnathon Schaech (remember that really disturbing mommyson flick Hush Well this is son) makes for a nasty villain who plays up vampirism with conviction there are a few scenes that showcase some pretty gnarly practical special effects and Steven Bernstein is a very very seasoned and skilled Dp. The bad news is for every quality the picture offers theres a major deterrent floating in the foreground easily detectable by most and near impossible to miss...

The film is directed by William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The French Connection) and stars Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Thomas Haden Church, Gina Gershon and Juno Temple. Tracy Letts (Big) wrote the screenplay based on his own play. The movie centers on a family who hires a police detective-turned-hitman to kill their mother for her life insurance policy. The Forsaken So right now we're in the Twilight era of vampire movies. Or we had the recent Vampire Boys attempt to mix romance and horror with a gay twist, but come up short due to overall lack of execution. So that got me thinking about the films of the past that I dug. There was Blade which was all about style and cool posing and posturing. Or we had Bram Stoker's Dracula which is just a flat out masterpiece and probably one of my top horror films of all time. Or there is the horror comedy Vamp. Or the criminally under seen The Midnight Hour. Then that got me thinking about the vampire film I have watched the most and that is....

2009. It was pretty much as crappy a year for horror movies as it was for the economy. There were, however, some really high points to help balance out all the drivel that was put out there in theatres as well as on home video, and they are to be celebrated, even though technically a couple of them are not even from this year.
Pull up your chair, sit back, and strap yourself in for a look back at the dos, the don'ts, and of course the "Doh!"s of this past year.

As most of you already know, one of 2008's most awaited horror films is Sony Screen Gems' Quarantine. The film is released October 10th 2008 to theaters worldwide. Below is the newly released red band version of the trailer. So if there were any questions on whether it is going to be bloody and gory, this trailer answers them.
Quarantine is the story of a television reporter Angela Vidal (Jennifer Carpenter)and her cameraman that are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. Screen Gems after the success of Resident Evil Extinction has decided to release another Prom Night in April. I am usually one that supports remakes, but in this case, I didn’t care that much for the 1980 film. “Especially, not enough for a redux!” Donna’s (Brittany Snow,Hairspray) senior prom is supposed to be the best night of her life. After surviving a horrible tragedy, she has finally moved on and is enjoying her last year of high school. Surrounded by her best friends, she should be safe from the horrors of her past. But when the night turns deadly, there is only one person who could be responsible…a man she thought was gone forever. Now, Donna and her friends must find a way to escape the sadistic rampage of an obsessed killer, and survive a night “to die for.” Man, it keeps getting better and better! Prom Night...
