A comedy or the drama of a whole nation

Warning: Spoilers
Bai Ganio is a typical Bulgarian trader from the end of th 19th century - greedy, a little bit simpleton, but always trying to "get the benefit". His traveling around Europe is made only to allows him to get more money from "the rich and foolish Europeans". ***SPOILERS*** The whole film is based on the Bai Ganio's rural behavior. There's memorable scenes such as the ones at the bathroom and the home of Konstanin Irechek. Everybody sees that Bai Ganio is simpleton and is very bumptious. The only one who doesn't understand that is Bai Ganio himself. Bai Ganio is a symbol of the whole Bulgarian's "elite" of the 19th century. That's why this brilliant comedy is in fact a way to show the decay of the Bulgarian's nation. Aleko Konstantinov is probably the best satirist in the Bulgarian literature of the past two centuries. He always tried to show the real mentality of the Bulgarians. Of course, character as Bai Ganio are strongly exaggerated. But the main idea unfortunately remains the same - there always will be someone who thinks only about the profits and benefits.

Excellent play

This is an amazing comedy, based on a famous Bulgarian novel. Baj Ganyu is the name of a doltish and arrogant peddler that travels across late 19th century Europe. He falls into different comic situations as the civilized world is in total contrast with his character. He is also a collective character of all the worse features some Bulgarians have. This movie also shows another typical Bulgarian feature - the ability to make fun of yourself. Admirations for Georgi Kaloyanchev's incredible play.

Don't miss that movie. You are not gonna really understand it if you are an American :) It is a different story there.

English: It is a nice movie. It is like a comedy-drama. The stuff that Ganio does and the things he says are funny but the whole theme of the movie makes you feel sad. It is indeed a very good movie. It talks about a guy back in the days when many of the country in the USSR were not allowed to let citizens from their countries to go to Europe. And Bai Ganio fakes that he is selling flower oil. So he gets out and goes to Venice and so on around Europe. He visits Germany.Stays there for a while. The funny part is when they take their bags at the hotel and he almost beats up one of the guys because he thought they were gonna steal it. Then at an inside swimming pool , i forgot where, he could not find a hanger and he just put his towel on stuck out nail and all the people were like in "awe"
