Vijayta Pundit who lost her composer husband Aadesh Shrivastav to cancer earlier this year is all set to return to acting. Vijayta who made her acting debut in 1981 with Rahul Rawail's Love Story opposite Kumar Gaurav was a rage after the film's spectacular success. She went on to do some highly successful films like Mohabbat with Anil Kapoor and the Bangla blockbuster Amar Sangi with Prosenjeet Chatterjee. In 1990 she quit acting to concentrate on being a home-maker. Now with her husband's unexpected demise Vijayta is looking at reviving her acting career. Sighing and still in mourning Vijayta says, "I've begun to feel the burden of my loneliness only now. When Aadesh died all our family and friends were here to support me. Then they all returned to their lives. My two sons are also busy with their own lives. The elder one Avinesh is preparing for an acting career.

Wedding Pullav which launches producer Shashi Ranjan's daughter Anushka was originally meant to be directed by Rahul Rawail who roped in his best friend Rishi Kapoor to make a very special appearance in this wedding comedy. But then Rawail had a fall-out with the producer and he marched out of the project. Ace cinematographer Binod Pradhan took over the directorial reins, leaving Rishi in a dilemma of loyalty. Says Rishi, "I did the film only because of my friend Rahul Rawail. Jab woh project mein nahin toh phir mera rahna kuch theek nahin lagaa." However the producer pleaded with Rishi to stay on. Professionalism won. Says Rishi, "Although my heart was not in it I've stayed on. Lekin Rahul ke bina dil nahin lagaa. I stayed on because it's the producer's daughter's launch. Why spoil the moment for a newcomer?" This is not the first time that Rahul Rawail...

"I've cried so much that my face has changed. I look like a different person," says Vijayta Pandit, yesteryears' hit heroine of Love Story, now composer Aadesh Shrivastava's devoted wife for many years, struggling to maintain her emotional equilibrium as her husband battles for his life.
"I can't describe what I am going through. I don't know how I am coping. Our two sons Anivesh and Avitesh are keeping me from crumbling under pressure. My family (brothers composers Jatin and Lalit Pandit) are also a great support," says Vijayta, recalling with horror her husband's sudden relapse a month ago.
"We had gone to America and had just returned when he suddenly started bleeding from his nose. It wouldn't stop. We rushed him to the Kokilaben hospital. That's been his home for the last one month. I am running from the hospital to our residence all day long trying to...

Hindi films are known for their romance and it is one of the reasons so many people fall in love with the heroes, the heroines and the films! So for Valentine’s Day we present what we think is Romance Bollyishstyle!
The One with the Tune and the Recording
We could not pick just one scene from the great Dil Toh Pagal Hai starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Karishma Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. However, the two that stand out for our writers are:
That moment when Madhuri and Shah Rukh are in adjoining changing rooms in a clothing store, and Madhuri hears him whistle a tune. She later hears it again and knows it was meant to be!

Together, they changed the destiny of Bengali popular songs. The Bengali songs of Lata Mangeshkar composed by Salil Choudhary changed the entire profile and personality of the popular film song in Bengal. And now 19 years after the composing maestro's death, Lataji who turns 85 on September 28 recorded a newly-discovered tune by Salilda under the musical supervision of the singer's protege composer Mayuresh Pai. Says Lataji, "Salilda was Salilda. No one could compose songs like him. His tunes were layered and textured and very difficult to sing. I loved the challenge of singing Salilada's 'Raaton Ke Saaye Ghane' in Annadata and 'Rajnigandha Phool Tumhare' on Rajnigandha." Folklore has it that once during a particularly difficult recording of a song composed by Salil Chowdhury, Lataji had passed out. She laughs, "It's a fact. I did faint while singing one of his songs. Salilda's tunes were a special challenge for me. And the fact...

Chennai, March 12: Southern actor Rahul Ravindran, who recently underwent gruelling dance sessions lasting nearly 24 hours for upcoming Telugu film "Hyderabad Love Story", feels dancing skills are very important for an actor.
"I feel South Indian actors can't get away with dancing. We do so many commercial films that dance has become an integral part of it. Even star actors make the effort to dance and entertain their fans. All actors should learn dance before they enter films," Rahul told Ians.
"You can only get away with dancing if the audience accepts you for some special quality or trait. For instance, not all.

Rahul Rawail, the filmmaker who gifted Hindi cinema such precious actors as Sunny Deol (Betaab), Kajol (Bekhudi), Aishwarya Rai (Aur Pyar Ho Gaya) and Amrita Singh (Betaab) is all set to unleash more fresh talent in a new film that he says, he is starting in April 2014. Interestingly, Rawail who seemed to have thrown in his towel after directing the ill-received risque comedy Buddha Mar Gaya in 2007, has named his new love story after his 1981 blockbuster Love Story which launched the careers of Rajendra Kumar's son Kumar Gaurav and Vijayta Pandit. Halfway through that 1981 film, Rawail had a fall-out with producer Rajendra Kumar. Rawail's name did not appear in the credits of Love Story. Now is his chance to get his name as director into Love Story. Says Rahul, "I am directing another film called Love Story. It bears no resemblance to the old film of that title." Rahul...

Memory lane has a special place for our firsts. Each of them represents an age, an era and an experience. From my first tooth to my first bruise, my first day at school to my first belly flop into the pool, they are all there. Some are protected by a forgetful mind but they are there. They make the identity we create in life. For example, a part of my identity is Bollyspice. Like all the writers here at Bollyspice. How does this link to the title? Well, Bollywood’s love affair with first loves and the release of Bombay Talkies is what prompted the title of this piece actually. You see, it’s just like our writer Pooja Rao said in her review of Bombay Talkies, cinema doesn’t just affect the lives of those involved, it affects its audience too. With the publication of the 2010 Black List another compilation of the year's best unproduced screenplays has arrived. This is the fifth year that The Black List has been in existence, and its purpose is to shine a spotlight on what 290 film executives think are some of the best creative executions of ideas worthy for the big screen.
To be nominated and included on The Black List a screenplay can't have been released in 2010. As well, the minimum number of votes that a screenplay needed to have to warrant inclusion on the list is five. Several of the projects listed on Tbl are in development and will be released in the next twelve months. Others might have heat but take years to reach theaters, and there are also many that will never be greenlighted.

Every year, film executive Franklin Leonard releases his list, called The Black List, of most-liked unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. This year's list was compiled from the suggestions of 290 film executives, each of whom picked up to ten of their favorite scripts. Since the list started in 2004, many screenplays ended up being turned into films. In 2005, two of the top three scripts were "Lars and the Real Girl" which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay Oscar, and "Juno" which actually won the Oscar. See The 2010 Black List below, broken up by how many votes each screenplay received. Keep in mind, some of the projects are already in the works. 49 Votes: * College Republicans (by Wes Jones): Based on true events. The Black List started in 2005 when Franklin Leonard was working for Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company. Leonard was getting drowned in sub-par spec scripts, so he sent an e-mail out to his industry contacts looking for the best unproduced scripts out there. The 2005 Black List and the 2006 Black List were undeniably important in getting a fresh batch of writers on the Hollywood scene. Since then, too many people know about the party and the studio system has learned that people are paying attention. That means that increasingly, scripts have been lobbied into the Black List. [Note: I have no actual evidence I would be able to share, disclose or show you that proves this, so file that assertion under: "Things Dave thinks and gets to write because he's squatted on that soapbox long enough to get squatter's rights."]This year: the majority of the Black List Top Ten has already been sold or optioned. I'm not sure how helpful it is to make a list of good In Production scripts. Certainly less helpful to writer's churning out material that keeps getting passed over (or people who have Not starred in Prison Break...

Back in 2004, a list was compiled of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood of that year. This came to be known as The Black List. It was all started by a young executive at Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way, who polled 90+ peers to send him their 10 favorite, new, unproduced screenplays to read over the holidays. It has since become a tradition at the end of every year, in December, to release this list, which is voted on by a group of individuals in the entertainment industry from producer assistants, talent agency individuals, and many people involved with film development all the way up to VP's.
The 2010 Black List is here, and thanks to Deadline we have the list of best unproduced screenplays. Most of the scripts we've heard of, many of them are in production, some have already wrapped filming, they just wont be released until next year.

Every year, studio executive Franklin Leonard compiles the “Black List,” a collection of the best unproduced screenplays as voted on by 300 execs and high-level assistants. The 2010 list is the sixth of its kind to bring additional awareness to Hollywood’s hottest scripts.
Topping the list this year is Wes Jones’ College Republicans, a Social Network-esque story (read my script review here) about the underhanded election of Karl Rove to a National College Republican seat, managed by strategy wunderkind Lee Atwater. Shia Labeouf is attached to play Atwater and Paul Dano as Rove. Previous Black List leaders include 2008’s The Beaver, which became a long-delayed film directed by Jodie Foster and starring Mel Gibson, and 2009’s The Muppet Man, which remains on the shelf.
Top 10 of 2010 (via the La Times). The Black List is available for download on the official website. Update: the rest added below:

The Black List has been released. The annual list is compiled with a poll of 300 (up from last year's 250) development executives and high-level assistants, and contains a ranking of the hot screenplays making the rounds in Hollywoodland, which were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2010 and will not be released in theaters during this calendar year. Basically, the black list contains the hottest projects in Hollywood that you haven't heard of yet. Note: The headline is a slightly inaccurate, because a lot of these screenplays have already been acquired (six of the top ten listed), a bunch are in production now, and some have even finished production. One of this year's top ten screenplays, J.C. Chandor's Margin Call, about the last 24 hours at now-defunct investment bank Lehman Brothers is already in the can and set to premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival with Chandor at the helm...

Frank Leonard is the most popular man in Hollywood today. This fine December day marks the release of the 6th annual Black List, a ranked collection of the top un-produced screenplays in the town, compiled by Leonard. Last year the top script was The Muppet Man from Christopher Weekes about “the life and times of the late Jim Henson.” Coming in second was Aaron Sorkin‘s The Social Network script, which is a current frontrunner to sweep the Oscars. The year before was The Beaver, now starring Mel Gibson and set for a release in 2011.

The resignation of Overture Films founders Chris McGurk and Danny Rosett late last week isn't just about the difficulties facing indie movie distributors: It's a direct result of a dramatically changed vision and turnover in management for all the Starz entertainment properties controlled by Liberty Media.
After Liberty/Starz put the film company up for sale, McGurk and Rosett had spent the past six months looking for buyers to acquire Overture and three other properties -- Anchor Bay Films, Film Roman and Starz Animation of Toronto -- under the Starz Media banner.
The asking price: $225 million plus assumption of $100 million in debt. There have been three bids for Starz Media since April, but Liberty has made no decision about whether to accept one of those offers, sell the companies individually or merge Starz Media back into Starz Entertainment, which operates 16 pay channels. Starz Entertainment itself is being split off as...

The 16th annual San Antonio Film Festival, which runs June 23-27, is truly a great combination of celebrating local talent and international cinema, screening films produced in Texas to ones produced in Europe, South America and the Middle East.
There’s also a distinct flavor of socially aware fictional narratives and documentaries, including films about Tibetan refugees, migrant workers, the 2008 Presidential election, alcoholism and genocide. But, that’s not to say the fest is a totally serious affair as there’s also several genre films about the World Cup, sheep rustlers, dancers, crooks and other ne’er-do-wells. It looks like a fun mix.
The full lineup of films is below. The way the festival runs is that films screen in blocks in three different theaters. A “block” of films will generally contain a feature or two (feature = film that is 50 mins. or more), plus several shorts. In the lineup I have up,...

How to follow up one of the best albums of last year? Rather than release another cryptically titled psychedelic odyssey, New York uber-hipsters Animal Collective have gone even further out and made a film. Well, actually it's a "visual album", made with long-time artist collaborator Danny Perez. Four years in the making, featuring completely new music, Oddsac is a narrative-free, head-spinning vortex of abstract kaleidoscopic trippiness that, as one fan puts it, "makes Matthew Barney look like Matthew McConaughey". Confused? Perez and the band will be on hand to explain themselves.

Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire: "How much can you handle? That's the central theme of Precious, a Job parable without religious overtones. It's more of a fairy tale, complete with an ogre who will whoop your ass unless she get the welfare. Precious is a child with children of her own, accepting hope not out some naive belief that perseverance will champion the day, but because she literally has absolutely nothing else to hold on to. It's Greek tragedy for Bet -- harsh, unyielding, and unwilling to give easy answers or a shiny happy resolution. The story delves into after-school special territory with raw anger -- for every Dangerous Minds aphorism, there's a spit-in-your-face, gouge-out-your-eyes cruel truth. And those aren't even the more scarring moments -- it's the casually carried out horrors that kick you in the gut. You don't watch Precious for the plot; it's just...

With supernatural horrors Click, Hide & Seek and Shaapit about to hit cinemas ready to chill and thrill audiences, it’s a good time to take a look back at this interesting, but little explored genre of Hindi cinema.
Widely acknowledged as the first Indian horror film was Kamaal Amrohi’s Mahal (1949), the film was a haunting ghost story which starred Ashok Kumar as the new resident of a strange mansion that had a tragic history. Shot in the then fashionable eerily atmospheric German Expressionistic style by German cinematographer Joseph Wirsching, the film also stars the ethereal Madhubala and features Lata Mangeshkar’s first hit song: ‘Ayega Aanewala’. Notable as one of the earliest movies in the world to deal with the theme of reincarnation and rebirth, Mahal has remained influential right up into the present day, inspiring numerous films on the same theme, including Madhumati (1958), Karz (1980), Karan Arjun (1995), Om Shanti Om...

I'd like to start this "American Idol" recap with a new game that I like to call "Porn Dialogue or 'Idol' Conversation?"
Man: Fancy seeing you here.
Woman: I like that word fancy. Fancy. You're very '70s. I like that about you. What is it with the '70s and you?
Man: All my idols are from the '60s and '70s. You know, Robert Plant, Roger Daltry, Morrison.
Woman: Did you get some of your moves from them? Where do you get those moves?
Man: I actually have a lot of rock DVDs and I watch a lot of old concerts.
Woman: Do you think you'll bring some of those moves if you stay?
Man: Whatever kind of moves you want, I'll give you.
Woman: Really? I think we wanna see those moves again, and you're gonna go through.
That was an exchange between Kara DioGuardi...

Chicago – Following up the massive critical and commercial success of “Juno” would be a daunting task for anyone and writer/director Jason Reitman admits that he was nervous coming off that film. Somewhat surprisingly, he’s delivered an even more confident and, overall, superior film in the excellent “Up in the Air,” starring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, and Jason Bateman.
After taking our pictures for his own records and a lively discussion about why he’s not too psyched about “Avatar,” what he thought of “Final Destination 4” in German, and what went wrong with the “Saw” movies, Bateman, Peter Sobczynski of EFilmCritic.com, Lee Shoquist of N:Zone, and I got into “Up in the Air”. Bateman is very open about how each of his films reflect what he’s concerned about personally.
