Robert Fletcher, a costumer designer whose more than six decades of credits on screen and the Broadway stage included the first four Star Trek films, died April 5 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was 98.
A cause of death was not disclosed, but a spokesman for the three-time Tony-nominated Fletcher said the designer died peacefully.
Fletcher’s work on the Star Trek films – Star Trek: The Motion Picture, The Wrath of Khan, The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home – earned him three Saturn Awards nominations including a win in 1987 for the fourth film in the series. He was especially remembered for establishing the look and style of the movie franchise’s Klingon and Vulcan characters.

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for “Mindhunter” season two.
Netflix’s crime drama “Mindhunter” ended its second season with FBI agent Bill Tench coming home to an empty house, with fans wondering if his wife Nancy had left him for good.
Holt McCallany, who plays Tench, says he drew inspiration for the performance from a story told by his father, who decades ago was blindsided when he learned of his own divorce at a bar in New York.

McCallany’s late father, Michael McAloney, was the Tony-award winning producer of a 1970 Broadway production of “Borstal Boy”. According to McCallany, McAloney was, like Tench, pulled in two different directions because of his career and his family.
“I based those scenes on my own dad,” McCallany said of the finale. “He was a man of that era.

Mild spoilers for “Mindhunter” season two below.
One very unexpected reaction to the second season of Netflix’s “Mindhunter” came from a subset of fans who declared FBI agent Bill Tench, played by Holt McCallany, a sex symbol.
Mel Magazine called Tench “The Unlikely Hearthrob” of “Mindhunter.” Clips like this compilation of McCallany speaking French, and this Tench supercut, have been widely shared on social media. Refinery29 writer Elana Nicolaou even dubbed the fandom “Tench wenches.“
That’s a lot of love for a character McCallany himself describes as a “chainsmoker with a buzzcut,” and while the actor says he’s “very flattered,” he also tells TheWrap the whole thing has him “deeply surprised.”
“Where were all these young ladies when I needed them?” McCallany joked.

(See previous post: “Gay Pride Movie Series Comes to a Close: From Heterosexual Angst to Indonesian Coup.”) Ken Russell's Valentino (1977) is notable for starring ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev as silent era icon Rudolph Valentino, whose sexual orientation, despite countless gay rumors, seems to have been, according to the available evidence, heterosexual. (Valentino's supposed affair with fellow “Latin Lover” Ramon Novarro has no basis in reality.) The female cast is also impressive: Veteran Leslie Caron (Lili, Gigi) as stage and screen star Alla Nazimova, ex-The Mamas & the Papas singer Michelle Phillips as Valentino wife and Nazimova protégée Natacha Rambova, Felicity Kendal as screenwriter/producer June Mathis (The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse), and Carol Kane – lately of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt fame. Bob Fosse's Cabaret (1972) is notable as one of the greatest musicals ever made. As a 1930s Cabaret presenter – and the Spirit of Germany – Joel Grey was the year's Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner. Liza Minnelli...

Talking with Popbitch, Danny Dyer - seen in films such as Borstal Boy and The Football Factory - discusses a few of the film roles that he auditioned for but didn't get the parts, and among those roles were Dick Grayson/Robin in Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin, commonly considered one of the worst comic book movies ever made (if not the worst). We all know that Chris O'Donnell reprised the role from the prior film, Batman Forever. Check out a segment from the interview below: I auditioned for Robin in Batman and Robin with Joel Schumacher. It’s strange really because for every one part you get, you lose out on twenty -- rejection, you get used to that pretty early, but you still want to know why, you want to know details. Why? Why don’t they want me? You’re in competition with so many actors, you...

Holt McCallany , who had just come from appearing on Good Day New York to talk about the award he received last week from the American Ireland Fund, swaggered into Cassidy’s Irish pub and restaurant on 55th Street with an air of confidence and presence on Thursday, March 10. He saluted the Irish waitresses one by one before taking his seat for the interview. Wearing a pair of stone wash jeans and a t-shirt that had the words Irish Boxing blazed across the front, McCallany, 46, looked as handsome in person as he does on television, where each week he stars on the FX show Lights Out as Lights Leary, an aging former world heavyweight champion boxer who is diagnosed with pugilistic dementia and struggles with supporting his family. McCallany’s American accent was garnished with a tint of an Irish brogue, but when passion consumed a topic, particularly about time he spent in Ireland,...

His character, Leary, is an aging former heavyweight Irish American boxer who is struggling to come to terms with his life after his career. His financial difficulties mean he is toying with a life in the ring or working as a debt collector. His Irish-born father, Michael McAloney won a Tony Award for his production of Brendan Behan’s Borstal Boy on Broadway. McCallany had a wealth of experience as a boxer. One of the things we've frequently lamented here at AfterElton.com is that when it comes to the umpteen million cop dramas and crime procedurals dotting the broadcast television landscape, there is nary a male gay cop or detective to be found.
Oh sure, we can be the murder victim (a drag queen or transgender person), the murderer (a closet case), or a witness (distraught partner proving the show is tolerant and diverse), but when it comes to actually carrying a badge, we never seem to be up to the job.
Thanks to NBC's new cop drama Southland, from ER's executive producer John Wells, that's about to change when the show premieres April 9th. That's right, someone in the photo above is gay! Learn more after the jump!

Michael York's Big Breakfast
British actor Michael York loved filming his new movie Borstal Boy (2000) in Ireland - because of the country's traditional big breakfasts. York plays a prison governor in the film, which is based on writer Brendan Behan's book of the same name. He says, "When I first arrived they were doing a traditional Irish breakfast on the set. All those incredible puddings and things - it was a calorific holocaust" York also admits to regularly appearing in French movies, just to sample the cuisine. He adds, "You could be out in the middle of the desert and still have a fantastic meal. It's incredible."...
