Robert Downey Jr. was originally signed to do the voice of the Devil, but he was battling drug addictions and legal problems at the time. When Downey landed in prison, the role was given to Alan Cumming.
Although cancelled after only a few episodes in the US, the entire first season was broadcasted in the UK.
Before its cancellation, the show received complaints from religious groups who were offended that God resembled the Grateful Dead singer and guitarist Jerome John "Jerry" Garcia.
Thirteen episodes were made but only three were aired in the USA. The show came under fire from religious groups, nine NBC affiliates refused to air the show in prime time (reruns of "F·r·i·e·n·d·s" were substituted in its place; several affiliates offered to air the show late night but NBC declined), promotion was minimal and, after the debut, ratings were minuscule so NBC canceled the series less than two weeks after it premiered.
