“Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” is uniquely its own beast, so it can be hard to find what to watch when you want more of that vibe.
What you need replicated could be that weird Tim Burton charm, a deep feeling of nostalgia – likely for the ’80s – or a blend of comedy and the supernatural. The movie is leaving many chasing one or many of these highs and we think we’ve come up with a few options to make your decision easier.

While streaming has made it easier to binge our favorite shows and movies all in one place, it also means that titles we’ve loved for years can become inaccessible at a moment’s notice. The corporations that own Netflix, Max, Hulu, and others now have the ability to truncate their catalogs in an attempt to present a leaner library and save costs, often at the expense of series and films that consumers love.
Cartoon Network became the latest victim of this phenomenon recently as fans of the iconic brand can no longer visit the cable channel’s website, which has been a fixture of the web since the late 1990s. The URL cartoonnetwork.com now redirects to Max’s website. It leaves the future of the shows from Cartoon Network in question, especially because there is no clarity on what will remain on Max and what will be lost to faint millennial memories.

Warner Bros. Discovery is shuttering its Boomerang streaming service. The Boomerang cable channel will live on.
Boomerang operations will cease on September 30; some of its programming will be integrated into Max, Wbd’s core streaming service. (There is already a decent amount of crossover to begin with.) And that’s exactly where Warner Bros. Discovery will send those Boomerang subscribers. Boomerang members will see their subscription automatically moved to Max’s ad-free tier with no change to their monthly price for a minimum of six months, a person with knowledge of the situation told IndieWire.
Until then, it’s a sweet deal: Boomerang cost $5.99 per month, Max’s ad-free plan is $16.99. Since everything (and we do mean everything) at Wbd is a financial decision, you better believe that $11/month won’t be left on the table for any longer than it feels it has to.

Welcome to the dog days of summer, where you’ll sweat through your clothes mere seconds after stepping outside and you risk a nasty sunburn just from getting your mail.
That said, we’re more interested in the canine part of the equation. After all, what better way to distract you from a bout of heat stroke than by watching the funniest pups in the history of movies?
To determine which hilarious furballs should make our list, we reached out to all manner of dog experts — from veterinarians to dog groomers to the voice of the Taco Bell Dog to the guy who performs Rowlf for the Muppets. Which is to say: We’re confident that we most definitely barked up the right tree.
For the record, though, this list is only movie dogs, so no Eddie from Frasier or Courage the Cowardly Dog, though some of the dogs below...

"Dexter's Laboratory" was the first in an incredible wave of original animated shows from Cartoon Network. "Cow and Chicken," "Johnny Bravo," "I Am Weasel," "The Powerpuff Girls," "Ed, Edd, n Eddy,", "Courage the Cowardly Dog," and "Dexter's Laboratory" were collectively known as Cartoon Cartoons, and they turned Cartoon Network into a popular destination for animated entertainment that landed with kids and adults alike. However, Genndy Tartakovsky is one of only two creators from this run of shows who is still making groundbreaking animation today. The other is "The Powerpuff Girls" creator Craig McCracken, who just so happened to cut his teeth working alongside Tartakovsky through much of the first couple seasons of "Dexter's Laboratory." Perhaps that's why it's so wonderful to this day.

Maxwell Atom's animated series "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy" debuted on the Cartoon Network on June 13, 2003, and would go on to run for 84 episodes over the course of six seasons. The premise was delightfully ghoulish. The cluelessly happy Billy (Richard Steven Horvitz) and the angry misanthrope Mandy (Grey DeLisle) once cheated Death by rigging a limbo competition; it seems that Death will grant favors to the living should they win at a competition à la Ingmar Bergman's "The Seventh Seal."
Because of Billy and Mandy's limbo victory, a grim reaper named Grim (Greg Eagles) becomes their indentured servant. Grim constantly wants to kill Billy and Mandy, while the kids just want to go on adventures. Grim begrudgingly goes along. Early Billy & Mandy segments were originally aired as part of the diptych series "Grim & Evil," which shared its 22-minute airtime with another Maxwell Atom series, "Evil Con Carne.

The '90s were a great time to be a young horror-loving kid. There were several gateway horror shows and movies that made genre fans out of an entire generation, preparing kids for the horrors of the real world within the safe confines of a television set. It was a time of "Goosebumps" and of "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark," a time of "Aaahh!!! Real Monsters" and "Tales from the Cryptkeeper." Then there was "Courage the Cowardly Dog."
Though "Real Monsters" featured, well, monsters, it was still definitely a comedic show. "Courage the Cowardly Dog," though, even when it wasn't technically scary, it was always eerie and disturbing. The cartoon follows the eponymous dog Courage, who lives with an elderly couple in a farm in the middle of Nowhere, Kansas. They are constantly thrown into weird, often spooky situations. The series started with a pilot short titled "The Chicken from Outer Space,...

Van Partible's animated series "Johnny Bravo" debuted on the Cartoon Network on July 14, 1997. It was one of four new shows that Cartoon Network premiered in 1997 and 1998 that served as a declaration for a new creator-forward direction the network was taking. "Johnny Bravo" debuted alongside Genndy Tartakovsky's "Dexter's Laboratory," David Feiss' "Cow and Chicken," and Craig McCracken's "The Powerpuff Girls." In 1999, that lineup would be complemented by "Ed, Edd n Eddy," and "Courage the Cowardly Dog." These shows were all quirky and idiosyncratic and attracted a generation of fans.
"Johnny Bravo" was about a barrel-chested, Elvis-voiced lug who lived with his mother and attempted to find love in the big city. His buffoonery and vanity, however, usually kept him single. Johnny was played by prolific voice actor Jeff Bennett, who has been acting professionally since 1991. Van Partible had been working on a version of the show as early...

Ever since its debut in 1969, Scooby-Doo has become one of the most treasured cartoons ever. From its unique narrative to iconic storylines, the cartoon show has spanned several episodes, series, movies, toys, games, and many more, with its characters and mythos a permanent part of popular culture.
The Scooby-Doo Gang
Even though there are several cartoons and animated series that enjoy similar popularity, what makes the adventures of Scooby-Doo and his friends is the countless crossovers they have had. From The Dark Knight to the Justice League and even Jensen Ackles’s Supernatural, the characters have had many memorable crossovers. But perhaps the best one was when they collaborated with WWE starring John Cena for an epic WrestleMania mystery.

Director Emma Tammi was facing quite a lot when bringing Five Nights at Freddy’s to the big screen with writers like Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback.
Not only did they have the challenge of delivering a fresh spin on a beloved IP already adapted in multiple other mediums, they are also facing down the dreaded video game adaptation curse and the film arriving amid a small but noticeable resurgence of “stranger danger” titles (think It, The Black Phone, Barbarian and Knock at the Cabin.)
Yet, the biggest challenge for the Five Nights at Freddy’s director may have been the one thing that most horror franchises are thinking about in a completely opposite way than her film: kids. Hollywood has a long history of making scary things for little(r) audiences — think Fright Krewe, Goosebumps, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Coraline, Wendell & Wilde, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Scooby-Doo! and Are You Afraid of the Dark?...

This is Day 144 of the WGA strike and Day 71 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
As contract talks between striking writers and their studio counterparts entered a third straight day, picketing in New York City continued Friday at the home of ABC’s The View amid reports and rumors of progress in a stalemate that has lasted 144 days.
On a day when such boldface names as Amy Schumer, Bradley Whitford and Busy Philipps were on the picket line, the real stars of the day might have been a vacationing family from Florida who gave up their tickets to the show to join the strikers. Read more about them below.
“Our heads are all spinning,” Schumer told Deadline after joining the picket Friday. The Emmy-winning comic actor, writer and director responded to a call by the Writers Guild for picket line reinforcements on both coasts and said that of all the issues driving the strike,...

It’s not even October, but Massachusetts is already being spoiled with horror events. A mere week after Silver Scream Con took place in Danvers, Terror Con slashed into the Royal Plaza Trade Center in Marlborough on September 15-17.

Other big draws included Lance Henriksen (Aliens), Edward Furlong (Terminator 2), pro wrestling legend Mick Foley, The Walking Dead‘s Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Chandler Riggs, Emily Kinney, and Katelyn Nacon, Danielle Harris (Halloween), Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks), John Kassir (Tales from the Crypt), and a Fright Night reunion with Chris Sarandon,...

In the pouring rain, upwards of 100 people marched outside of Warner Bros. Discovery’s Park Avenue South building Tuesday afternoon in New York as part of a themed Writers Guild picket that doubled as a promise to unionize east coast animation writers.
“This has been a long, horrible battle trying to get animation writing covered. We are not giving up. I’m really just here to say that when the strike is over, when we have won the contract we deserve, we are circling back to animation,” Susan Kim, WGA East animation caucus co-chair and a writer/story editor behind hits like Arthur, Bubble Guppies, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Clifford the Big Red Dog, told a drenched crowd of picketers. “We are going to be back. We’re going to be better than ever. And we are going to get this goddamn industry organized.”

The hand-drawn picket signs were, like several of the people carrying them, wrapped in waterproof plastic at a rain-soaked march in New York City on Tuesday afternoon. But a passer-by could still see the images: Bender, the cranky robot from Futurama; BoJack, the half-equine hero of BoJack Horseman; Courage, the pink-hued canine star of Courage the Cowardly Dog; and several more beloved cartoon and animation characters going back the original, Mickey Mouse.

The first of the month is typically when the variety of streaming services on offer bolster their respective libraries with a mixture of original and pre-existing content, freshening things up for subscribers in the process. January 1st also happens to be the first day of 2021, though, so people might be expecting a little more than just a handful of new additions, and HBO Max are stepping up to the plate in a big way.
Of course, Wonder Woman 1984 is set to entice millions to sign up for Warner Bros.’ platform, especially when the entire slate of theatrical releases are also heading to the streaming site on the same day that they hit the big screen. And keen to capitalize on the inevitable influx of new customers, HBO Max is adding a massive amount of film and television titles on January 1st, with the onslaught set to continue over the next 30 days.

Chicago – Gore Verbinski is no stranger to the spooky. He always creates these tense, terror-filled scenes that effectively frighten us. His films, from “Ring” to “Rango”, each are compelling enough to keep our attention, not matter how absurd they transform into. Boy, does he ever deliver in the gorgeously grotesque “A Cure for Wellness.”

I grew up in what can easily be considered the golden era of fucked up cartoons. My formative years were filled with outrageous, absurdist shows like “Ren & Stimpy,” “Rocko’s Modern Life,” “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters,” and “Courage the Cowardly Dog.“ Each of them probably has something to do with my macabre sensibilities and Gore Verbinski perfectly mirrors my own predilections. The most powerful part of any Verbinski is the visual storytelling and “A Cure for Wellness” proves that he works best when the camera tells the story for him. The best way to describe his...

We know the season takes place in the present and returning faces include Sarah Paulson, Lady Gaga and Angela Bassett, among others. There seems to be emphasis on some frontier-like area. The house, the family out for a walk (look at the dude's hat), the old timey baby cradle with that demon hand and knife. But...

For his last TV gig, he voiced the character Eustace Bagge in Cartoon Network's animated Courage the Cowardly Dog TV series, in 2002. His IMDb profile credits Anderson on 18 episodes of the now-cancelled cartoon. He assumed the role from Lionel G. Wilson, in the show's final season.

Amid the growing call for gender equality in Hollywood, Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon has been quietly leading the charge for women and the work they create – including herself. Toiling under the production banner Pacific Standard Films, Witherspoon and her producing partner, Bruna Papandrea have been the driving force behind films such as Gone Girl and Wild – both of which have arguably played a significant role in challenging the status quo regarding high profile female-led projects. The pair has now added a further title to their vast slate – Cold – which, though written by a man, will star and be produced by Witherspoon. This continues her apparent determination to create her own opportunities both onscreen and off, and to bring strong female-led stories to theatres.

Cartoons are like any other medium: they run the gamut from “Oh God I can feel myself getting dumber from watching this” to “This show better get nominated for an Emmy.” The latter category has recently been dominated by animation created specifically for adults. Despite being mostly overlooked year after year, there are several kid-oriented shows hiding humor and melancholy just under the wacky hijinks. Baking heavy or adult subject matter into a cartoon is nothing new. From “Looney Tunes” to “Tiny Toons” and beyond, animators have been layering their stories for decades, saving parents and guardians from wishing to shuffle off this mortal coil rather than be subjected to another episode. While the pickings in 2015 are slimmer than in other years — “Legend of Korra” has ended its run and we’re a far cry from the heyday of “Cartoon Cartoons!” on Cartoon Network — there are at least five animated...

If you haven’t had a chance to read the news, or you happen to live under a rock, then you may not know that The Power Rangers have recently made a comeback… sort of.
A fan-made film by Joseph Kahn called Power/Rangers was recently released on YouTube and has already gathered over 12,000,000 views. A gritty, disturbing, and action packed short, this not-for-kids version of The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers has proved that while some shows might be for children, their film adaptations would be perfect for adults.
But Kahn isn’t the first one to prove this.
Back in 2011 a fan-made, live action trailer for the non-existent film Pokémon Apokélypse was released to the excitement of fans. The trailer showed a truly twisted and disturbing look into the world of Pokémon training, where trainers would do anything to win and no one was above murder.

The Powerpuff Girls: Super Smash-Up #1
Written and illustrated by Derek Charm
Published by Idw
In its original television incarnation, led by creator Craig McCracken, The Powerpuff Girls was a welcome antidote to princess culture, trafficking as it did in highly subversive imagery and ideas just beneath its candy-coloured surface. Little girls could relate to the super-powered trio and, ideally, even see them as alternative role models while older animation fans could appreciate the sometimes heightened violence, occasional adult-themed innuendo and the incomparably weird Him.
It’s unclear whether McCracken is directly involved with an upcoming series reboot, so there’s some question as to whether that same level of quality will be maintained. Thankfully, Idw has dedicated itself to telling new stories based on McCracken’s vision and their latest chapter, “Super Smash-Up,” is certainly a worthy successor.

When you sleep, there are usually a handful of dreams that you have. Sometimes there’s the traditional falling dream or a dream about the public embarrassment of standing in a crowded room with just your underwear on. Or perhaps your dreams are more enjoyable, such as falling in love with a celebrity or achieving great personal success. If you’re Bob, the star of Back To Bed, then your dreams are a bit of a more surreal experience.
The premise of Back To Bed revolves around Bob, a mild-mannered man who has a severe case of narcolepsy. However, rather than being at rest during sleep, like you and I, Bob instead wanders around with no clue and no direction. He is not wandering around in reality, but is exploring the deepest reaches of his mind. And, as it turns out, Bob’s mind is heavily influenced by the works of surrealists such as M.

The 90s will be remembered for a few things: Grunge, Michael Jordan, Bill Clinton’s extramarital hullabaloo, and perhaps the greatest generation of TV cartoons ever. Just like the 2000s had the emergence of great television dramas on HBO, Showtime, and AMC (The Sopranos, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad), the 1990s had the persistent excellence of Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and the Disney Channel. If this seems like an exaggeration, then you probably didn’t watch the shows.
Hand-drawn animation was still the norm, and characterization took precedence over background and scenery. But even though the animation was great, these cartoons had great stories. You can have a bad TV show with good animation, but you can’t have a good TV show with uninteresting characters and narrative. This list is devoted to cartoons made specifically for kids, so no Dr. Katz, Daria, or The Simpsons.

It's been more than a decade since the 1990s ended, yet the Internet can't seem to go a day without a reminder of the neon slap bracelets that may have been banned from your school.
Yes, we get it. Times are tough and there's comfort in reflection, but enough is enough.
