Although the series has faded into obscurity and is often forgotten in favor of the many animes that Street Fighter has inspired, both seasons were released on DVD by ADV Video.
The show is closely based on Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (1993), but also borrows plot elements and characters from the theatrical live-action Street Fighter (1994) movie such as Guile being the main character, and Charlie and Blanka being the same person, for instance.
One of three animated series based on a Capcom video game series released in the 1990s. The others were Mega Man (1994) and Darkstalkers (1995).
The series ran for two seasons on the USA Network. It was initially part of their Cartoon Express lineup, but later became part of the Action Extreme Team lineup, their grouping of action-based cartoons. Another show featured in that lineup was Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm (1995), also based on a popular fighting game.
At one point in the series, Final Fight characters appeared. This would also happen in the Street Fighter Alpha video game series.
