Former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, who died Monday at 87, had a much greater impact on the world of film than just inspiring an Oscar-winning role for Meryl Streep in 2011's "The Iron Lady." The woman who led Great Britain from 1979 to 1990 cast a long shadow over filmmaking in her country during her time in office, inspiring much reaction (pro and con) among filmmakers, inspiring some classic movies, and unwittingly giving major career boosts to some of our era's greatest movie talents. The conventional wisdom about Thatcher's impact on pop culture was that performing artists, being a lefty, proletarian bunch, hated her with a passion. Certainly the British musicians of the '80s, from Billy Bragg to Pink Floyd, composed numerous bitter protest anthems condemning her as a war-mongering tyrant who was strangling the working class. But the movies British filmmakers created during her three terms in office were a lot more ambivalent,...

Two new parodies open in theaters this weekend on Friday, May 21… MacGruber and Shrek Forever After. Just as these two films are very different from each other, as are movie parodies, ranging in style and format, poking fun at anything and everything. In keeping with this week’s box office theme, We Are Movie Geeks has formulated our own list of the ten best parody movies. The films we’ve selected broadly encompass the widely varying genre of parodies, and while we certainly left out some good ones, it gives an idea of what we think of as being the exemplary examples.

I'll tell you! SyFy has announced two new movies that will be appearing on their screens. They're billed as "fun", but I think they should just be seen as an excuse for drinking games.
To whit:
"Take one drink for every washed-up, formerly touted as the 'Next Big Thing', star you see in the cast list...."
"Take two drinks if washed-up star has done cheesy abs revealing pictures to remind folks of what a hunk they are."
"Take three drinks every time someone says 'That's impossible!'"
"Inhale deeply on your crack pipe and then Od on heroin when 'The End' appears on the screen because you now really do deserve lasting brain damage."
Anyway, the two new films SyFy is announcing are Mongolian Death Worms and Witchville.
Mongolian Death Worms is about the cause of the health code violation that permanently closed my favorite Mongolian BBQ wok restaurant. While tasty,...
