Sex & Nudity

  • The mermaids are wearing bras.
  • One of two birds comments about the fact Lena (now as human) doesn't wear anything, so the birds have to get her dressed in sea plants for the time being. Lena's nudity is not seen at all, as we only see her back briefly from a far distance.
  • A few kisses.

Violence & Gore

  • Lena and Wig are sucked in by a whirlpool, but they are okay.
  • A violent storm destroys a ship filled with people. At least two men almost drown but are saved.
  • An octopus is caught by lots of whirlpools. Wig is almost sucked into one when Lena saves him from it.
  • There are a few references to war. Bloodshed is one of the words used once.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Right before the ship is getting destroyed in a violent storm, a man can briefly be seen having a pipe in his mouth.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • For preschoolers/kids and up.
  • Cassandra's appearance may be kinda scary for some young children, but her scariness is nothing compared to Ursula's appearances in the Disney-version.
  • Cassandra tells Lena that if the prince doesn't marry her, she will turn into sea foam.
  • This cartoon is basically pretty light-hearted. The intensity and scariness are practically nothing compared to Toei's film (1975) and Disney's film (1989).
