- It is a beautiful morning, and the Grinch wakes up in a rare good mood. He whistles happily as he showers, and then talks to his reflection in the mirror. The reflection reminds him that a Grinch must be nasty at all times, and convinces the Grinch to find someone to torment. The Grinch uses his car to torment some singing birds.
Meanwhile, the Cat in the Hat prepares for a picnic. The cat parks his car in the middle of the road, blocking the Grinch's path. As the Grinch complains, the Cat apologizes and makes a casual remark about the Grinch's face. Taking it as an insult, the Grinch is filled with road rage and chases the Cat back to the Cat's house with his car.
The Grinch wants revenge and is in a mad-scientist mode. He first creates a device that controls and alters sounds, then a device that controls and alters light. He uses both devices to torment the Cat from a distance. Not safe even within his house, the Cat tries to escape and makes his way to a restaurant. The Grinch torments the restaurant's entire staff and its customers.
The Cat has been trying to find why the Grinch is behaving like a psychopath, and has developed various theories on the Grinch's motives. He then figures that the Grinch must have a soft spot. He convinces the people from the restaurant to follow him to the Grinch's house. They sing a song about how the Grinch's mother loved him, and remind the Grinch that she would not be happy with his behavior. The Grinch is moved to tears and has a vision of his apparently deceased mother.
The Grinch quits his revenge scheme, and spends some time tidying up his house. The following morning, the Grinch is in a good mood again and talks to his reflection. The reflection tries to convince him to become a villain again, but Max (the Grinch's pet dog) activates the sound-altering machine and silences its voice. The story ends.
