Hello, everyone! I hope you have your wallets ready because we have a huge day of horror and sci-fi home media releases this week, and there are a ton of different titles fans are definitely going to want to add to their collections. Blue Underground has given the criminally undercelebrated Dead & Buried the 4K treatment for their 3-Disc Limited Edition release of the film, and if you’re a big fan of sci-fi/action movies, you’ll definitely want to pick up the latest Vestron Video release, The Wraith, which Lionsgate is putting out on Blu this Tuesday as well.
As far as recent genre fare goes, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, Jakob’s Wife, Initiation and 32 Malasana Street are all headed home on various formats, and if you happen to be a big fan of the Saw series, you can also nab brand new Blu-rays for the first eight Saw films this week,...

Last year, James put together a comprehensive guide, of every piece of Halloween programming and horror movie that would air during the month of October. When I asked him if we were doing the same again this year, he acted like I was an idiot. Why wouldn’t we? With that knowledge in my head, I decided we would expand a little bit this year, and throw together a comprehensive DVD & Blu-ray buyer’s guide for the months of September and October. There are some really great horror releases between now and the end of October. Some studios wasted their opportunity to rope in the rabid genre fans. Fox, for example, except for a new Wrong Turn film, and a few catalog releases making their Blu-ray debuts(Exorcist sequels), has a calendar filled with nonsensical re-releases of titles that are already widely available, and at cheap prices.

With Texas Chainsaw 3D out now in cinemas, Ryan looks at the history of the power tool death in horror, and changing attitude of the BBFC...
There’s something irresistibly robust and nasty about the title, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Rolling beautifully off the tongue, it hints at all kinds of horrific and violent acts - and it certainly sounds more violent and exploitative than Tobe Hooper’s 1974 movie actually was.
Far from just another gore-drenched slasher movie, Hooper’s Texas Chain Saw was more about the threat of violent death than its graphic depiction; his use of sound, editing and careful framing made the few murders really count, and made viewers think they’d seen something far nastier and brutal than they really had.
If anything, Hooper was rather too successful in this regard. In spite of his movie’s relative restraint, critics decried...
