1. “Grace and Frankie” Season 3 (available March 24)
Why Should I Watch It? If Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda aren’t reason enough — not to mention the rest of the cast, including Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, and June Diane Raphael — then know this: “Grace and Frankie” is a living embodiment of progressive beliefs. Not only does the show cover an array of taboo topics from the dramatic weight of right-to-die debates to casually breaking cultural stigmas surrounding post-menopause sex, but “Grace and Frankie” consists of half-hour episodes that don’t adhere to comedic or dramatic formulas. The tone is unique to the series, respecting the characters and building to moments of great power and great humor. So give it a try.

Christopher Plummer has revealed he "should have ended up" with his The Sound Of Music co-star Julie Andrews.
The actor, who played the Captain opposite Andrews' singing nanny Maria in the 1965 musical, made the comments during a TV interview with ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer.

"We should have ended up together. We should have had a huge, smashing affair," Plummer quipped.
"But there was no time, and Julie had her children with her. Which was most inconvenient, I thought."
Andrews was married to set designer Tony Walton during filming of The Sound Of Music. She later married director Blake Edwards, who died in 2010.
Andrews also revealed to Sawyer that she had a crush on Plummer during filming.
She said: "We sort of did. We were never an item, as they say. But now we are the best of friends. And that's lovely."

Et talked to Diane Sawyer ahead of tonight's "Sound of Music 50th Anniversary Special" with Julie Andrews and got the untold story behind one of the movie's classic moments.
News: The Sound of Music Turns 50!
"They had four takes at the lake and they're falling in over and over," Diane said of the film's famous lake scene. "Getting dried off then getting wet down when they need to be and then she's told early on that the smallest child doesn't swim. She has to fall in such a way that she can catch her but instead she falls in the opposite way and we have footage because the families, the parents of the children, were taking home movies."
Another secret? The stream that Julie Andrews jumps in wasn't even there!
"They brought it in," Diane said. "The birch trees -- they'd bring them in and take them away."

Julie Andrews and spanking...two things you probably didn't imagine to read in one sentence. Yet here we are. After an eventful night at the 2015 Oscars, the iconic actress and singer stopped to chat with Kelly Ripa for Live! With Kelly and Michael's annual after-Oscar special, which aired this morning, and the blond beauty asked Andrews if she'd ever seen Fifty Shades of Grey. Spoiler alert—she hasn't. "This is Gelman's tribute to that movie," Ripa tells the 79-year-old celeb while gesturing to a room that is off-camera. "This is the Red Room. We made a Red Room back here...We're not gonna spank anybody here," she continued. That's when Julie...

Julie Walters is such a legendary actress - who's been in all sorts of beloved films and TV Shows - that it's no surprise she was awarded a BAFTA Fellowship earlier this year. And now, her career will be examined in a new TV show airing tonight (Christmas Eve).
We caught up with Julie recently to chat about her varied career, so read on to find out why she wishes she'd kept something from the Harry Potter set, why slippers with bobbles bring back bad memories, and why she wants to be a Bond villain...
Was getting the Fellowship a nice chance to look back at the highs and lows of your career?
"Yes. Well, you don't really look at the lows. To be perfectly honest, when you get it, I don't look back at anything really. There were clips, weren't there? Yes, of course there were, on the night.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of Disney’s glitzy Los Angeles Mary Poppins premiere. As the recent movie Saving Mr. Banks showed, writing the music for Mary Poppins was not an easy task for composers Richard and Robert Sherman, who had to contend with prickly Poppins author P. L. Travers. “She was terrible to us—just very negative and unreceptive. I felt like we were drowning,” Richard told EW last year.
Despite all that, there’s a lot of music in this movie—probably more than you remember. The movie’s soundtrack features 16 songs with lyrics, and not all are...

Mark Ruffalo almost didn’t take the part in The Normal Heart, but not for the reasons that one might think of a Hollywood actor. He asked Ryan Murphy “Aren’t we at the place in our culture, in our development, where a gay man should be playing this part?” And Ryan Murphy told him “That’s the antithesis of what this movie is about. It doesn’t matter what your sexual preference is. It matters what actor I think should play this part.” Julia Roberts actually did the interview with Mark, and the whole thing is a great read.

Thanks to her sitcom's success, Beth Behrs hardly is broke.
She and Kat Dennings are two of television's most recognizable actresses as the stars of "2 Broke Girls," Mondays on CBS, to the degree they were enlisted as hosts of the network's telecast of the 40th Annual People's Choice Awards recently. (Their series had two nominations, after winning favorite new TV comedy honors its first year.)
In the show's third season, which has seen it return to its original slot after a move to a later time, the lively Behrs still feels good about the weekly misadventures of waitresses, roommates and cupcake-selling entrepreneurs Caroline and Max. "We got shifted around, but I think it's all working out from what I can tell," Behrs, aka "Caroline," tells Zap2it.
The show also has opened up to include a pastry school plot involving recurring guest stars Gilles Marini and Mary-Lynn Rajskub ("24"). "It's so new for Max and Caroline,...

Meryl Streep breaks Oscar record: Oscar 2014 nominations (photo: Meryl Streep in ‘August: Osage County’) The 2014 Oscar nominations were announced earlier today at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs and Thor: The Dark World and Snow White and the Huntsman actor Chris Hemsworth — whose Rush was completely shut out — made the announcements, including that of Best Actress contender Meryl Streep, in the running for her performance in John Wells’ August: Osage County. Streep’s competitors are her Doubt and Julie & Julia co-star Amy Adams for David O. Russell’s American Hustle, Sandra Bullock for Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity, Judi Dench for Stephen Frears’ Philomena, and likely winner Cate Blanchett for Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine. (Emma Thompson’s absence from the Best Actress roster — for her performance in John Lee Hancock’s Saving Mr. Banks — was quite a surprise.

Almost a half century ago, they starred together in “Mary Poppins,” and last night (December 9) Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke got to reconnect at the Hollywood premiere of the new flick “Saving Mr. Banks.”
The “Sound of Music” actress and the “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” star both showed up to see the new Walt Disney film, based on the making of their iconic flick.
And both Dick (87) and Julie (78) were overjoyed to see each other, given the strong bond they developed way back in the day.
Of the 50th anniversary of “Mary Poppins,” Andrews previously told “Today’s” Matt Lauer, "It's mind boggling. I cannot believe it's been 50 years since then. I've lost about 20 years somewhere. You always set a bar for yourself that's high."
“People are so lovely and you want to give them pleasure. You do the best you can. You hope that any movie you do...

Carrie dissers, would You have dared to step into Julie Andrews’ very famous nun’s habit and play Maria in a live remake of ‘The Sound of Music?’ I bet not. So stop sending nasty tweets to Carrie Underwood, who had the balls to take on the challenge!

Yes, it’s amazing how many viewers took to Twitter to mock, make jokes and pull their knives out, including — shockingly — the original Gretl Von Trapp from the 1965 film version of The Sound of Music.
What hole did Kym Karath, only known for playing Gretl, crawl out of after all these years?...

Back when NBC first announced its plans to air a live telecast of The Sound of Music, starring the charming but novice actress Carrie Underwood, there was a collective gasp in our office — except from me. I’m pretty sure that before tonight, I was the only person in the known universe who had never seen the Julie Andrews movie. So, while everyone else either avoided the show entirely or spent the evening begrudgingly comparing it to their childhood favorite, I took it upon myself to watch with unbiased eyes. And then proceeded to remember why it is that I never sat through the 1965 film in the first place. In case you’re deciding whether to cue up that DVR, here’s my take on the good, the bad and the snoozy of The Sound of Music Live:

The Sound of Music Live starring Carrie Underwood is almost upon us; here's everything you need to know about the 3-hour production.
A new report suggests that the elaborate, one time only production cost the studio close to $9 million, a figure the television special is unlikely to make up during its broadcast. Though NBC won’t comment on the exact figure, it is expected that the studio hopes to make a profit with re-runs of the special, DVD sales and sales of the CD soundtrack, released two days before the special airs. A DVD of the special is expected to be released before Christmas, and, if all goes well, The Sound of Music Live could become a holiday television staple.

Underwood, 30, is pictured in a scene opposite Laura Benanti, who plays Elsa Schrader. Taking on the role that originated with Julie Andrews hasn't sat well with some fans of the 1965 film.
