Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Boo is restrained and the scream extractor is moving forward to her as she screams until Sulley saves her.
  • At the beginning of the movie (after the opening credits), a monster slowly stands up beside a bed with a kid sleeping on it, and the score gets pretty scary. The boy turns and sits up and screams, but the monster immediately screams louder and slips on a soccer ball/football and some jacks. In other words, what looks like is the scene about to turn pretty scary actually ends up being funny.
  • Mike is restrained and the scream extractor to confess were Boo is at, and as the extractor is moving forward to him as he screams until Sulley disconnects the extractor. And when it's connected again by Randall, the one who is screaming in the extractor is Fungus.
  • There is one scene where Mike takes away Boo's bear and she cries loudly about it.
  • Pretty mild-mannered/lighthearted movie.
  • The screams from kids in their bedrooms while on the Scare Floor may frighten the younger kids watching it.
  • Boo's screams and laughter combined causes all the lights in the entire apartment complex to light up and cause a power outage.
  • During the opening credits, the closet that becomes an open doorway from the Monster World with a gigantic monster roaring can be frightening to some younger viewers.
  • Sulley does a really big, scary growl for a demonstration and frightens Boo who runs away in tears (we see images of his face later, with teeth and claws bared).
  • Sulley thinks Boo has been smashed in a compactor and he faints from despair.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A woman hits Randall several times with a shovel because her son thinks that he is "another gator" who got in the house. Right away, Sulley punches the activation light on the top of the frame, banishing Randall once and for all.
  • Mr. Waternoose punches Sulley during the altercation in what is initially presumed to be Boo's room, but turns out they're in the simulation room due to Boo's door not being activated, and that the deranged CEO's attempt to kidnap Boo backfires when he instead grabs what turns out to be the simulation kid - prompting a "Simulation Terminated" alert.
  • Boo grabs Randall and continuously hits him with a baseball bat as he changes into different colors and patterns during each hit until Sulley grabs and strangles him.
  • In the outtake version of Needleman and Smitty shredding one of the doors being declared a "dead door", Smitty puts the door shredder on full speed, blowing out a chunk of debris from the door being shredded, and sending the entire machine rolling around the Scare Floor out of control and bumping into other monsters and objects, and even the filming equipment.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • After Sulley says goodbye to Boo, he closes the door and Boo runs back to the door to reveal her closet. The scene is really quiet. Suddenly, the scene cuts to the door being shredded with the loud sound of the door shredder coming out of nowhere.
  • The scene that Randall tries to use Scream Extractor on Mike is stressful and scary.
  • Sulley says goodbye to Boo and shredded the door, this scene is very upsetting.
  • When Fungus is in the scream extractor he slowly starts to turn white and when the machine is turned off his lips are puffed up and he is white may be disturbing for some viewers.
  • The contents from Boo's room that clung onto Sulley that he unsuccessfully flushed down the toilet and obliviously stuffed into George's locker are implied to have been destroyed by the CDA after George opens his locker and the items fall out and land on him.
  • Mr. Waternoose's outburst caught on tape during an argument with Sulley about kidnapping 1,000 children is considered frightening to the younger kids.
