European premiere of animated musical Torrey Pines among festival highlights.
BFI Flare: London Lgbt Film Festival (March 16-26) has revealed the line-up for its 2017 edition.
Now in its 31st year, the festival will feature more than 50 features and 100 shorts, as well as a range of special events, guest appearances and workshops.
As previously announced, this year’s event will open with the world premiere of Against The Law, a BBC-produced political drama made in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Sexual Offences Act, which decriminalised homosexual acts between adult males in England and Wales.
One of the highlights of the main programme this year will be the European premiere of Torrey Pines [pictured], the stop-motion animation about a child grappling with gender identity and a schizophrenic mother.
The film world premiered at Seattle Queer Film Festival in October last year. At BFI Flare, the screening will be accompanied by a live score from director Clyde Peterson’s band...

The 31st BFI Flare: London Lgbt Film Festival (March 16-26) will open with historical drama Against The Law.
Marking the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Sexual Offences Act, which decriminalised homosexual acts between adult males in England and Wales, the film is based on Peter Wildeblood’s autobiographical novel of the same name.
It tells the story of Wildeblood, a celebrated journalist, and his love affair with another man, which led to devastating consequences including imprisonment. His case instigated the publication of a report that recommended the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK.
Wildeblood will be played by Daniel Mays. The cast also includes Mark Gatiss, Richard Gadd and Charlie Creed-Miles.
The film was directed by Fergus O’Brien, produced by Scott James Bassett and written by Brian Fillis. It is a BBC Studio production and will air on BBC Two later this year.

What seems meant as a scorching indictment of American injustice and prejudice, or perhaps the searing character study of a cornered man, just ends up looking wishy-washy and old-fashioned in Rachid Bouchareb’s tepid remake of the 1973 French drama Two Against the Law starring the late Jean Gabin and Alain Delon.
