There are a few shows or movies that set a standard and a template for a whole genre. HBO’s 2001 miniseries Band of Brothers not only did that for war dramas but also launched and boosted many acting careers. The series, created by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, presented real-life events of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division throughout World War II.
The ensemble cast of Band of Brothers is one of the main reasons people still remember the show. Apart from playing the roles of soldiers, actors like Scott Grimes as Donald Malarkey, Kirk Acevedo as Joe Toye, and Damian Lewis as Richard Winters made the audience empathize with their losses and wins and connect with their camaraderie. Now, after more than two decades since its premiere, let’s catch up with some of these talented cast members and see what they are up to.

This story discusses a meeting scene from the first episode of Andor season two.
A key scene in the Andor season two premiere takes some real-life inspiration from World War II history.
About 20 minutes into the first episode, there’s a secret Imperial meeting led by Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelson) on a snowy mountain compound. There he plots the takeover and potential destruction of the peaceful textile-producing planet of planet Ghorman with a select group of high command officers. It’s a scene that has major importance for the final scene of the Disney+ show, which leads up to the creation of the Death Star.
“No notes, no records, none of you were here, nobody puts this in their calendar,” Krennic warns the group. “You’re colleagues, superiors, if they’re not in this room, they’re not cleared for the project. The group in this room is the tightest of closed circles.

Paramount Pictures has released another amazing new behind-the-scenes featurette from Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, this time shifting the spotlight away from the stunts and onto one of the franchise's most breathtaking shooting locations: Svalbard, Norway!
If you're wondering what brings our heroes to the Arctic, well, it's probably safe to say it'll have something to do with the missing Sevastopol, which sank at the beginning of the previous film.
Dead Reckoning spoilers ahead, but, as we all know now, the completed key that Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) managed to swipe at the end of that film opens a chamber in the Sevastopol that contains the Entity's source code, allowing it to be destroyed or controlled.
The sub's location has remained a mystery until now, but, it looks like, in the two months between adventures, Hunt and company will have cracked its hidding spot in the Arctic Ocean.

Paramount Pictures has shared a jaw-dropping new look at Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, offering a quick sneak peek at Tom Cruise's most dangerous stunt yet, as he hangs off the wing of a biplane at 8,000 feet, with winds of over 140 mph blasting!
This stunt, which will undoubtedly be this final installment's signature sequence. has been in the works for several years now, with Cruise ("Ethan Hunt") and director Christopher McQuarrie having meticulously shot it over the last two years. The duo actually first teased the plane sequence at CinemaCon 2023 ahead of the launch of that summer's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning.
The previous installment received widespread critical acclaim and the follow-up is shaping up to bigger and better in every way, as Ethan Hunt and his elite team of Imf operatives race against the clock to stop The Entity once and for all.

In the ‘90s New York acting scene, Steve Zahn and Rick Gomez were two moons orbiting the same planet. They went out for the same roles and ran in the same crowds. Gomez landed a coveted spot in the World War II miniseries Band of Brothers, while Zahn bowed out due to scheduling issues that prevented him from reuniting with his That Thing You Do director Tom Hanks. Despite these close encounters, they don’t recall ever meeting.
Nearly 20 years later, Zahn and Gomez finally linked up on The Crossing, in which Zahn played a sheriff to Gomez’s deputy. The sci-fi show was short-lived, airing for just one season on ABC in 2018, but it spawned one of the closest relationships in both men’s lives. “We both worked the same way. The HBO limited series "Band of Brothers" was the most expensive television miniseries at the time, recreating the American military unit Easy Company's European activities during World War II. Executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, the series provided an expansive and factually grounded account of American combat involvement in Western Europe during the war. Like Spielberg and Hanks' previous collaboration, the award-winning "Saving Private Ryan," "Band of Brothers" was praised for its stellar cast, realistic action, and expert attention towards historical authenticity. The series still sets the bar of quality for military shows, of any conflict, though there are a number of similar shows fans should check out next.
Whether it's other HBO television productions examining various harrowing wars or long-running shows where wartime skirmishes punctuate every episode, there are countless military shows available. The best in the genre strive towards the same level of quality and...

Although Neal McDonough has played heroic roles in the past, for the most part, the actor has become notable for leaning toward villainous and morally ambiguous characters, including his collaboration with Taylor Sheridan. As for his reasoning behind playing bad guys, according to the actor, this was his way of figuring out his place in the art form, especially after the setbacks.

For South and North Korea, the Korean War technically never ended, with the country still divided and contentiously at odds over 70 years after the conclusion of active hostilities. Released in 2010, the K-drama series "Legend of the Patriots" revisited the war to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the conflict's outbreak. A remake of 1975 Korean series "Comrades," which was also previously remade in 1983, "Legend of the Patriots" brings a more ambitious edge to the original story. While previous versions of this tale offered more overtly jingoistic messaging, the 2010 iteration focused more on fiery wartime action and the impact of the devastating conflict on civilians.
"Legend of the Patriots" begins in late 1950, just before China's entry in the war, as South Korean and United Nations forces advance on the North Korean capital of Pyongyang. The movie primarily focuses on a squad of South Korean soldiers led by Lee Hyeon-joong (Choi Soo-jong) on the frontlines of this advance.

Max isn’t afraid to pull titles from its platform, even popular original series. The streamer is reportedly set to make another such removal in the coming weeks, as its supernatural drama series “The Leftovers” will be leaving the streamer before summer begins. Will it be moved to another streaming service, or is it simply an attempt to by Warner Bros. Discovery to cut down on expenses?
Key Details: “The Leftovers” could be preparing to move to another streamer, like Netflix. Alternatively, the show could be removed to lower residual payments.

You’d best binge on some HBO shows on Netflix, as several will be leaving the streamer this summer and fall!
HBO and Netflix have had an up-and-down relationship over the years. HBO was okay with licensing some of their original shows to the streamer but obviously wanted to keep some bigger ones on HBO itself. The coming of Max means HBO doesn’t need Netflix as much.
2023 saw a new deal premiering several HBO shows on Netflix, but it looks like that agreement is coming to an end. There is a chance it could be renewed, so some of these stay after all, which is common for streamers. When Steven Spielberg lends his name to anything, expectations are immediately juiced. Any new project from the man who brought us transporting blockbusters like "Jaws," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," and "Jurassic Park" carries with it the promise of the extraordinary. When he's directing, that promise is almost always fulfilled. When he's producing movies, his batting average is very respectable. As for television, that's a bit of a crapshoot.
Spielberg actually got his professional start by directing episodes of "Night Gallery" and "Marcus Welby, M.D.," before breaking through with the brilliantly directed TV movie "Duel" (which was so good it received a theatrical release). The first show he created for television, "Amazing Stories," was a mixed bag. You expect a bit of inconsistency from an anthology series, but there seemed to be a ceiling to how good an "Amazing Stories" episode could be.

Think of all the legendary TV episodes that you’ve seen, the ones that left you breathless, that had you pacing the room, that made you sit in stunned silence as the credits rolled. With so many masterpieces gracing our screens, it seems almost impossible that only one episode in television history has achieved a flawless 10/10 score on IMDb.
Several Iconic Shows But No 10/10
Even in the golden age of TV, where every other week a new ‘masterpiece’ drops, nothing else has quite managed to achieve perfection.
Just a few days back, Netflix’s Adolescence landed with a bang, earning a stellar 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, yet its highest-rated episode? An 8.6. Over on Apple TV+, the much-lauded Severance continues to mesmerize audiences, but even its best episode from the latest season caps out at 9.4.

Michael Fassbender has enjoyed an extraordinary career, bridging decades of storytelling. Unfortunately, his productivity generally declined in the 2020s. After the critically panned X-Men: Dark Phoenix(2019), the actor stepped away from Hollywood for several years. He instead took time to focus on his career as a professional racer. Consequently, he did not star in a single movie between 2020 and 2022. This was a natural decision during the pandemic, as Hollywood faced hardship during that period. Still, there was no evidence that Fassbender would have the chance to return due to insurance issues.
Fassbender did not stay away forever, thankfully. The actor returned to the screen in 2023 for The Killer and Next Goal Wins and also starred in Kneecap in 2024. These movies have been coming slowly compared to the rest of Fassbender's career. He was previously capable of starring in three films in one calendar year. Now, he appears in only one or two each year,...

Cinesite, a leading independent visual effects and animation studio collective, has received a long-term funding package worth $215 million to support continued operations, technological innovation and strategic expansion.
The London-based group said financing — a series of transactions — was led by its longtime bankers NatWest alongside Barclays and Santander. Its shareholders, including family office Gryphion, supported the overall package of senior and junior debt and equity lines.
The financial commitment “underscores the company’s ambitions and confidence in the entertainment sector,” the company said, and “empowers Cinesite to overcome the challenges posed by recent industry disruption that has affected the entire sector.”
Disruption is right. The funding comes weeks after storied VFX giant Technicolor filed for bankruptcy in the UK and France and shuttered its U.S. operations, including The Mill. The leadership team and much of that creative staff joined forces with Dream Machine FX on a new venture called Arc Creative.

Classic Hollywood star Ingrid Bergman once said, "A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous." The Swedish actress knows a thing or two about the power of a kiss, as she was one half of one of the most iconic kisses in cinematic history when she and Humphrey Bogart starred in "Casablanca." However, as powerful as a kiss can be, sometimes the act of kissing may be a bridge too far for an actor behind a given character.
Regardless of what a script says a character is meant to do, sometimes there are certain things that an actor will refuse to do. For whatever reason, they may decide that they don't want to do their own stunts or have any nude scenes, as tasteful as they might. And there have been plenty of instances where stars have chosen not to participate in kissing scenes as well.

The HBO series Band of Brothers paid tribute to the American soldiers who were in the Second World War through the eyes of Easy Company’s 101st Airborne Division. Produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, who continued their association after Saving Private Ryan, the series was widely appreciated for its focus on American troops.
While the show was instrumental in highlighting the troops’ contributions and sacrifice, it was not entirely historically accurate. Based on the book by Stephen Ambrose, who reportedly collected testimonials and interviews from Easy Company veterans, many elements of the series took poetic licence, Tom Hanks signing off on it.

How about this for a match made in heaven: Pierce Brosnan gets to play a crime boss with Tom Hardy as his fixer in MobLand, a new Paramount+ gangster drama from producer Guy Ritchie, who also directs multiple episodes of the new series. The first trailer has been released, and it looks like it's going to be a real treat for fans of all involved.
Created by Ronan Bennett, MobLand follows Hardy as Harry De Souza, a loyal fixer for the Harrigan family, led by Brosnan's Conrad and Helen Mirren's Maeve. The trailer sets up the characters well, with Conrad noting that while Maeve is the family's matriarch, she's "the most dangerous of them all." The preview isn't short on blood and violence, something Ritchie is no stranger to, and it certainly looks like the exact type of show we love to see from everyone involved. We'll find out...

There’s something grossly alluring about the grime and gore of World War I. The world’s first massively mechanized battlefields killed around 40 million people and left countless more permanently changed. It brought forth massive innovations in both civilian and military technology while wholesale destroying immense swathes of critical farmland. Yet, driven by an innate sense of morbid curiosity, audiences still clamor for World War I films.
People crave the inherent pathos of the so-called “War to End All Wars,” and immersion reigns supreme. It’s certainly not as popular as World War II in cinemas, but the former Great War still commands attention. Its brutality is its appeal, and its films epitomise a widespread fascination with mortality and pain. While many of the war’s most acclaimed cinematic spawns cling to heart-stopping sound design and relentless violence, one stands out for its surprising and seemingly impossible restraint.

Tom Hanks is known as one of the nicest people in Hollywood, having worked as a leading man for several decades. Aside from some of his critically acclaimed roles, Hanks is known for co-creating the war drama miniseries Band of Brothers. However, while directing one episode of the series, Hanks rejected one actor for allegedly having dead eyes.

The actor in question Connor Ratliff ended up starting a podcast based on the experience. Ratliff eventually managed to get Hanks as a host on his podcast, where the actor shared his side of the incident leading to the young actor’s firing. Hanks understandably apologized to Ratliff for the incident and here is how the interaction between the two went down.

Band of Brothers has always remained on the peripheries of great television – critically revered but never quite as celebrated as other HBO projects like Game of Thrones or The Sopranos. However, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks’s sensational work isn’t just another war story filled with gritty realism and unfiltered horrors of war.

The HBO miniseries defied genres and shifted the preconceived standards of television to establish a tale that surpassed expectations and redefined storytelling. Band of Brothers proved that fiction concedes when compared to the horrors of reality itself, especially when it comes to the subjects of blood, trauma, doom, and death.
And one member of the Easy Company in the real-life Band of Brothers knew it all too well.

It’s been 11 years since True Detective season 1 premiered on HBO, and the influential Max-streaming series remains one of the best TV outings of all time. HBO has long gained a reputation for being the home of prestige drama TV, with ‘90s-’00s hits like The Sopranos, Band of Brothers, and The Wire paving the way for 2010s phenomenons like Game of Thrones, Succession, Chernobyl, and, of course, True Detective. The success of HBO’s best TV shows has inspired attempts to recreate their magic with similar concepts or franchise expansions, with some proving more difficult to replicate than others.
True Detective season 1 is one such show that HBO has tried to capitalize on the popularity of since 2014, but has struggled to find that lightning in a bottle again. Created by Nic Pizzolatto, True Detective season 1 is led by Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cohle and Woody Harrelson as Marty Hart,...

Netflix is not just a great producer of original content. Sure, many of the original series of the streamer are terrific, but are they immortal? Empire put together a list of the best series ever in 2024, but how many of them can you see on your favorite streamer?
To be fair, Empire's list is of top 100 shows ever. We are just focused on the top 20 here. Once you get past that, the ranking is even more arguable.
But if you want to try and see if the site is correct, you could stream several of the shows on your favorite subscription service. That would be Netflix, obviously. So here is what you can binge-watch in the next week.
If you like Empire, you will love these series on NetflixNo. 20 - Band of Brothers (originally on Max)
The one-season series feels more like an adjunct to Saving Private Ryan, and that makes sense.

While Goosebumps: The Vanishing might not bring back the cast of the show’s first season, it does feature plenty of familiar faces. The success of 2023’s Goosebumps TV series means that viewers are getting another season of the horror anthology show in 2025. However, Goosebumps: The Vanishing will not pick up where Goosebumps season 1’s cliffhanger ending left off. Instead, Goosebumps: The Vanishing tells an entirely new, separate story starring a new set of teens and older supporting stars. This may dismay fans of season 1, but it is exciting for lovers of the Goosebumps franchise.

Masters of the Air, the excellent follow-up series to one of HBO's best shows, Band of Brothers, is free to watch this weekend, which means everyone should check it out. Released in 2001, Band of Brothers was a groundbreaking series. Created by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, it felt like a spiritual successor to Saving Private Ryan at the time, and there have been three Band of Brothers shows so far, focusing on different parts of World War II.
The Air Force-focused Masters of the Air is the latest Band of Brothers follow-up, that premiered early in 2024. For anyone wanting more WWII, prestige miniseries, Masters of the Air is perfect, and given that it will be free to watch the first weekend of January, there is no better time to check it out. Not only does it do a good job of standing on its own, but it continues the legacy...

When Band of Brothers was released, it came just three years after the dominant success of Saving Private Ryan. The show debuted in 2001 and showed an extended and quality look at the reality of life in the heart of World War II. Easy Company's journey quickly became a mainstay on HBO, as the prestige show drew audiences in droves. Since its release, it has remained in a class of its own and continues to influence war movies and shows today. Yet, despite originally being one-of-a-kind, other shows have joined its universe.
Stephen E. Ambrose's book inspired Band of Brothers, but the story of Easy Company could not be the end of such a brilliant series. Masters of the Air and The Pacific both debuted in the aftermath. The Pacific premiered in 2010, while Masters was released on Apple TV+ in 2024. All were based on real-world American warriors during World War II,...

Historical dramas lend themselves well to the limited series format. From Chernobyl to Band of Brothers, these fictionalized accounts of true stories shine a light on the horrors that really unfolded — and the heroes who witnessed them and pushed, against all odds, for the truth to be known. Lockerbie: A Search for Truth — which is based on the book The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father's Search for Justice, written by the show’s protagonist, Jim Swire — is no different, shining a light on one of the darkest days in the UK’s history and the consequences of it that are still ongoing today, nearly 40 years later.
