Decent police procedural, with Cologne touch
suchenwi20 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
On one hand, this is yet another of those German pre-prime-time serials whose main purpose is to offer slots for advertisements. On the other.. it has its certain charms, and some surprising ideas. It is set in Cologne, and shows some local scenery (though I might wish for more), and the Cologners' contempt for Düsseldorf comes over nicely several times.

The police crew is centered around officers Klaus Taube and Jupp Schatz, with a few more colleagues we most often see in the office (chubby geek Achim, spunky secreatry Jenny), and into the crime story of each episode mixes touches of Schatz's family situation (he is divorced and has a teenage son, with whom he wants to spend more time, but is usually called away by work).

One episode I really enjoyed was "Bock geschossen", where Hennes, the goat mascot of 1. FC Köln soccer club is shot by a sniper.

All in all, a decently done serial. The DVD box of season 2 was for sale for 5 euros at a cheap shop here, which is certainly worth it for 10 hours of playing time.
