The Lone Rider to the rescue
russjones-8088710 October 2020
On his horse Silver King, the Lone Rider arrives at a gold mine run by a father and daughter. They bought the mine from three outlaws who believed it was worthless but, after gold is discovered, they want it back.

This was the first in a series of Western shorts which starred Wally Wales as the Lone Rider. Standard story with the script and acting typical of this type of film. Stars Wally Wales as the hero with Myrla Bratton and Franklyn Farnum.

Warning: Spoilers
PLAYERS: Wally Wales (Wally Smith), James Sheridan (a.k.a. Sherry Tansey) (Dad Gray), Merla Bratton (Dot Gray), Franklyn Farnum (Gore), Fred Parker, and "Silver King".

Director: ROBERT EMMETT TANSEY. Screenplay: Al Lane. Story: Robert Emmett Tansey. Photography: Brydon Baker. Film editor: Arthur Cohen. Sound recording: Theron Kellum. Producer: William Pizor.

Not copyright 1934 by Imperial Distributing Corp. U.S. release: 1 October 1934. 2 reels. 27 minutes.

COMMENT: A fairly entertaining two-reeler, most attractively photographed - all on outdoors locations (there are no interior shots at all) - and processed in sepia.

Wales and Farnum have a grand time as hero and villain respectively, and whilst the heroine is no great shakes as an actress, she's youthfully picturesque enough to hold our interest.

The movie was obviously lensed in haste, but Tansey's skill makes the most of a limited budget and presents a smooth and action-enough ride for short subject fans.
