As The Challenge: All Stars 4 final is airing on Paramount+, the fifth season of the spinoff show is filming in Vietnam.
As spoilers revealed, it features a departure from the traditional MTV Og cast the first four seasons had.
Instead, All Stars 5 brings in some cast members from CBS’ Big Brother who have participated in The Challenge, among other shows not named Fresh Meat, Road Rules, or Real World.
Production assembled a cast of that nature due to the upcoming season’s theme, which is also something never seen on All Stars before.
After some speculation, online insiders revealed the team situation for this theme, showing that the pairs were competing for the win.
This report will contain spoilers for The Challenge: All Stars 5, set to air on Paramount+ later.

Derrick Kosinski knows a few things about winning multiple eliminations and competing in finals on MTV’s The Challenge.
The Og initially appeared on Road Rules and later won three seasons of MTV’s competition series. He returned to compete in the first three seasons of the All Stars spinoff.
Derrick reached the final in that first season but was eliminated during the event’s first leg due to struggles steering a kayak or canoe.
While he’s not part of the All Stars 4 cast, he and Challenge Mania podcast host Scott Yager have been reviewing the season.
They recently highlighted the show’s eight finalists, which Episode 11 revealed, with Derrick praising a former All Stars castmate.
He shared that he felt that individual could become a more worthy All Stars winner than Yes Duffy in Season 1.

For many longtime fans of The Challenge, MTV’s longest-running reality competition franchise, the fourth All Stars entry feels like a homecoming. For starters, the Paramount+ competition — which brings back some of the series’s earliest and most memorable contestants to battle it out for a shot at the championship title — pays homage to its Real World and Road Rules origins, which have all but disappeared over time. Season 4 has been an especially satisfying trip down memory lane with production going as far as to bring back the beloved Winnebago Rv, an emblem of the original Road Rules, for a brief cameo.

Spoilers began to emerge within the past few weeks, revealing an intriguing cast featuring MTV OGs and some non-MTV stars.

Sometimes remarks are taken out of context on The Challenge, but according to Adam Larson, he had good reason to refer to his castmate Cara Maria Sorbello as “shady.”
The former Road Rules star made his remark in The Challenge: All Stars 4, which he returned to compete in after 18 years away from reality television.
During a recent episode, multiple cast members agreed to work together to prevent Cara from winning the daily challenge.
Kam Williams masterminded the plan so someone could steal Cara’s Star, which host Tj Lavin said competitors needed to advance to the final.
“Cara Maria is playing a shady game,” Adam said in a confessional, adding, “So our priority is getting her balls knocked out. Then we want to make sure that Leroy [Garrett] and I both have voices, so our balls are gonna go next. The last balls that should be left in the net are...

While The Challenge: All Stars 4 has yet to finish airing its episodes, there’s already pre-departure speculation for Season 5.
That includes who will appear in the cast of a revamped version of the spin-off that initially featured MTV OGs from Real World, Road Rules, and Fresh Meat.
Things changed slightly with Season 4, as Kam Williams became the first former Are You The One? cast member to appear on All-Stars.
However, All Stars 5 could feature cast members from other networks besides MTV, including CBS shows like Big Brother and Survivor.
Based on early spoilers for the potential cast, viewers could see two individuals return to the spin-off version of The Challenge after skipping the recent season of MTV’s show.
One of them is still vying for that first-ever win on the competition show, despite multiple attempts at the final, while the other captured a win as a rookie.

The former Real World star is currently appearing in episodes of the spinoff show with castmates including Laurel Stucky, Tina Barta, Brad Fiorenza, and Brandon Nelson.
In a recent podcast appearance, Brandon mentioned he might have had interest in his castmate Averey, as she was “good to look at.”
However, he revealed that his castmate, Adam Larson, was able to swoop in before he could and may have captured Averey’s heart during the show’s filming.

A fierce feud has erupted between several Og cast members from The Challenge: All Stars 4.
During recent episodes of the spinoff show, viewers watched as various individuals negotiated deals and alliances to ensure their survival in the game.
Former The Real World: Miami star Flora Alekseyeva was one of the individuals who called out a castmate during the recent Episode 6.
During the scenes, she pointed out that it made her “sick” how castmate Cara Maria Sorbello controlled their castmates during the elimination voting.
However, it appears Flora also has issues with castmate Tina Barta, as she recently posted several messages aimed at the former Road Rules star.
One of those messages accused her castmate of “embarrassing” and “inappropriate” behavior or remarks during the show.

Brandon Nelson is among the MTV OGs who returned as part of The Challenge: All Stars 4 cast, and according to him, it came at an “opportune” time.
On the spin-off, the Fresh Meat 2 star reunited with former MTV castmates, including Cara Maria Sorbello, Jasmine Reynaud, Leroy Garrett, and Laurel Stucky.
For castmates and viewers, it was the first time they had seen Brandon compete in a version of The Challenge in 10 years.
His last appearance was on 2014’s Free Agents, where Zach Nichols eliminated him in the fourth episode. Throughout five seasons on The Challenge, Brandon never reached or won a final.
Brandon recently shared that his call for All Stars 4 came at the right time and explained why he hadn’t returned until the spinoff.

The Challenge: All Stars 4 is airing on Paramount+ featuring a cast that includes several former champions from MTV’s competition series.
Among the OGs are Cara Maria Sorbello, Brad Fiorenza, Kefla Hare, Rachel Robinson, and Laurel Stucky.
For the first three seasons, the show’s format featured only cast members who had appeared on MTV’s The Real World, Road Rules, or Fresh Meat shows.
Season 4 changed things slightly, as Kam Williams became the first former Are You The One? cast member on the show.
Based on early cast speculation, the cast members for All Stars 5 will come from even more shows, including non-mtv shows.
This report will contain spoilers from The Challenge: All Stars 5, set to begin filming later this year.

An insider has shared the names of several former cast members from The Challenge with no current interest in returning to the franchise.
The competition series is currently filming MTV’s Season 40, which features a star-studded cast of 40 individuals from various eras.
As that season films, The Challenge: All Stars 4 episodes arrive weekly on Paramount+, and that tends to be a shorter season.
Meanwhile, rumors about All Stars 5 recently dropped, suggesting a significant change in the cast.
With those rumors came an insider posting the names of four people from past seasons of The Challenge.
A few have also appeared on MTV’s competition series quite recently, but they have no desire to participate right now.

Fans of The Challenge: All Stars spinoff shows will likely see a major change in the cast for Season 5, and for some fans, it may not be a welcome change.
Season 4 of the popular spinoff is currently airing on Paramount+ and features a cast of MTV OGs from Fresh Meat, Road Rules, and Real World.
The latest cast includes former Challenge winners Brad Fiorenza, Cara Maria Sorbello, Laurel Stucky, and Rachel Robinson.
Other All Stars 4 cast members, including Nicole Zanatta, Tony Raines, Leroy Garrett, and Kam Williams, have yet to win MTV’s competition series.
Based on recent rumors from a generally reliable spoiler account, viewers will see a different group of cast members, including non-mtv OGs, in Season 5.
Many fans of the Og format might dislike the spinoff’s cast update, and several former All Stars cast members have already reacted.

When MTV put The Challenge on their airwaves back in 1998, the idea was to assemble a group of former Real World and Road Rules cast members and pit them against each other for a cash prize. Nobody could have predicted the show would be going strong over a quarter century later with more than 500 episodes across 39 seasons, spinoffs shooting all over the globe, and a rabid fan base that obsesses over every detail of it on social media, web forums, podcasts, and even live Challenge Mania events where fans gather together to meet cast members.

With each MTV season and spinoff season of The Challenge, fans immediately have their favorites and non-favorites.
While The Challenge: All Stars 4 is considered a highly anticipated installment of the Paramount+ spinoff, some still question specific cast choices.
In particular, Nicole Zanatta has drawn plenty of criticism for appearing in the iconic cast of MTV stars.
She’ll appear in a group that includes her ex-girlfriend Laurel Stucky, Tony Raines, Cara Maria Sorbello, Leroy Garrett, and Kam Williams.
Nicole recently appeared in a promotional video for the new All Stars season, highlighting several of the cast members’ most embarrassing moments from The Challenge.
That led to multiple critics arriving in the comment section to blast Nicole for being included.

A new All Stars 4 promo video featured former Challenge competitors Adam Larson, Jay Gotti, Tony, and Nicole talking about “humbling,” “disgusting,” and “embarrassing” moments from their MTV careers.

Jersey Shore star Nicole Polizzi was once more known for her reality TV partying alter-ego Snooki. But as time went on, Polizzi wondered if Snooki’s popularity was more of a liability to her career.

Polizzi’s lifestyle was broadcast for millions to see on the original Jersey Shore. Before settling down, she was known for her flirtatious attitude and spontaneity. Exclusive: Cris Abrego, the longtime Banijay U.S. chief who recently set up his own production group with Eva Longoria, is expected to become the new boss of the TV Academy.
Deadline understands Abrego is the frontrunner for the position. The election to name the next boss is set to be held next week but sources have told Deadline that Abrego is already being talked about by some as the next Chairman and CEO of the Primetime Emmys operator.
He is expected to replace Frank Scherma, the co-founder of RadicalMedia, who was “termed out” after running the TV Academy for the past four years.
Abrego’s appointment would further raise the profile on unscripted television at the Emmys as he is the first Television Academy chair to come from the reality TV world.
His appointment is not a major surprise as Abrego has been involved with the Television Academy for a number of years.

Cris Abrego, quite fittingly, has had one of the more surreal career trajectories in entertainment. A reality producer who got his start logging tapes for Road Rules before going on to create aughts hits such as Flavor of Love, Celebrity Paranormal Project and The Surreal Life, he segued to the C-suite after the 2008 acquisition of his 51 Minds Entertainment shingle by Dutch-based multiplatform media company Endemol. “I certainly felt something shift when I sold my first business,” says Abrego, who was 36 at the time. “To have that kind of windfall at that age was life-changing.”
Rather than rest on those early laurels, the East Los Angeles native was “hungry to do it all again,” and he not only survived subsequent corporate mergers and acquisitions but steadily rose through the ranks, becoming CEO of Endemol Shine North America and now chairman of French media behemoth Banijay’s North American operations, where he...

Do you believe in the boogeyman? If you’ve ever watched one of the good Halloween movies, the answer is an unqualified yes! The boogeyman is real and he has a name and a shape: Michael Myers. And for the last 45 years, he’s been cutting a bloody path of carnage across multiplexes everywhere.
It began innocently enough in the hands of director John Carpenter, a then young filmmaker not long out of film school who, along with producer and co-writer Debra Hill, plus some friends, wanted to make a genuinely spooky horror movie that borrowed heavily from chillers like Psycho or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The first “House of Villains” castmember was sent packing Thursday night in a dramatic banishment ceremony.
“Vanderpump Rules” bad boy Jax Taylor and “The Bachelor” Corinne Olympios were the first two villains nominated for banishment by Omarosa, the winner of the first challenge.
Taylor and Olympios were strapped tightly to chairs as host Joel McHale revealed their fate.
Read on to find out who was first eliminated from “House of Villains,” how they would’ve changed their gameplay, and what’s next for them.
Spoiler alert: This post contains spoilers from “House of Villains” Episode 3.
Each of the remaining villains — Anfisa Arkhipchenko, Johnny Bananas, Shake Chitterjee, Jonny Fairplay, Bobby Lytes, Tiffany Pollard and Tanisha Thomas — cast one vote for either Taylor or Olympios.
In the end, Jax Taylor was unanimously voted out. Omarosa hit a button and his chair flung backwards into a dark abyss with the wall sealing behind him.

What we now consider reality television began with MTV's The Real World, and throughout the '90s, until Survivor premiered, it served as the template. Besides Cops or the many Cops knockoffs that littered the nooks and crannies of cable and syndication, reality TV in the '90s was largely candid in nature, typified by The Real World, Taxicab Confessions, and Road Rules (which in the early seasons was just The Real World in an Rv). Out of this era came one of the most archetypal and memorable reality villains of all time: The Real World's David "Puck" Rainey.

With more than three dozen seasons and more than 500 episodes to date, The Challenge is unquestionably one of MTV’s biggest hits. The show premiered on June 1, 1998, as Road Rules: All-Stars, a Road Rules spinoff starring cast members from The Real World. Since then, the series has undergone other transformations, rebranding as Real World/Road Rules Challenge and then just The Challenge and incorporating stars from other reality shows. And along the way, controversy after controversy has piled up both on screen and off, as you’ll see below. Content warning: This article covers racist comments and allegations of sexual assault. Tonya Cooley’s lawsuit In 2011, The Challenge alum Tonya Cooley sued MTV, Bunim/Murray Productions, and former costars Evan Starkman and Kenny Santucci, alleging that Starkman and Santucci sexually assaulted her when she was passed out during the taping of Season 18, a.k.a. 2009’s The Challenge: The Ruins,...

“I Wish We could talk about race more,” says Theo Von. “I feel like, especially as a white male, to raise your hands to ask a question is like you’re that nervous kid in the back of the class.”

The cultural juggernaut that is Survivor undeniably changed American television. The CBS competitive reality show had precursors, but nothing compared to the addictive and often controversial formula presented in Survivor: Borneo in 2000. And no one person was a bigger part of causing that paradigm shift in TV history than Season 1 winner Richard Hatch.
He went above and beyond the producers’ wildest dreams of what the show could be. He shocked viewers with his manipulative and often downright odd behavior. It went so far, the producers wondered if the man who would solidify Survivor into a megahit franchise was actually on the path to ruining their show.

The Challenge champ Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio told podcast Challenge Mania that CBS should include MTV veterans in The Challenge: USA Season 2, believing it needed established personalities to show the newcomers the ropes. Here are five legends from the flagship that would make exceptional additions to the upcoming season.
Johnny ‘Bananas’ Devenanzio
The winningest competitor has appeared in over 20 seasons since his debut in 2006’s The Duel, and he’s racked up 68 daily wins, 27 elimination wins, $1,222,720 earned, and a historic seven wins. Even though he’s already appeared in season 38’s Ride or Dies and spinoff World Championship after taking a two-season break, Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio has become a franchise staple, and his presence would make the show feel a little more authentic.

Survivor favorite Parvati Shallow almost didn’t appear on the CBS show because she nearly got cast for The Real World or Road Rules a few years beforehand. Had she made the MTV series, Parvati probably would have gone on to compete in The Challenge instead.
Parvati Shallow shared a rejection letter from ‘The Real World’
A few years before making her debut on Survivor: Cook Islands, favorite Parvati Shallow nearly got cast for The Real World: Paris or Road Rules: South Pacific.
In a March 2023 Instagram photo, she shared a picture of the 2003 rejection letter she received from Bunim/Murray Productions. It began by congratulating her for making it to the interview stage as part of the top 250 applicants from the over 5,000 submissions they received.
She's got charm and she knows how to persuade. Parvati is back and @JeffProbst believes she's going to be a weapon in this game!

The Challenge two-time champ Mark Long has competed on the reality TV competition show since its second season in 1999. He remembers when T.J. Lavin became the host, referring to it as “a breath of fresh air.”
Mark Long called T.J. Lavin a ‘breath of fresh air’
Host T.J. Lavin has presented the reality competition series since its 11th season, The Gauntlet, in 2005. Og Mark Long, who began appearing in the second season and won twice before the Las Vegas native became the host, has seen several people attempt the job, including skier Jonny Moseley, the late BMX rider Dave Mirra, and himself alongside Real World star Eric Nies.
However, when T.J. entered the picture, Mark called him a “breath of fresh air” because it seemed like the reality TV host cared in a February 2023 interview with the Challenge Mania podcast.

In the niche world of comedy touring, Mike Berkowitz has always been “the guy.” Over his 21-year career, the agent has been a go-to dealmaker in the live entertainment space, diversifying the income of star clients and launching digital crossovers.
Berkowitz, who co-heads WME’s comedy group, first distinguished himself by tapping into the lucrative college market. He also blazed a trail for new acts to reach stadium-level stardom in a landscape where only the likes of Eddie Murphy and George Carlin once played.
The sector has exploded in the past decade, and Berkowitz has been at the forefront. In 2022, he booked and shepherded production on Bill Burr’s 31 million-grossing tour, as well as Kevin Hart and Chris Rock’s co-headlining shows. He sent out John Mulaney (50.2 million) and Amy Schumer (9 mil- lion), the latter for her first tour in five years. Next, he’ll map out dates for Ramy Youssef,...

In a recently-revealed clip from The Challenge: Untold History, viewers can take a trip down memory lane with some of the Og cast members who were part of the show’s early evolution.
Initially, MTV’s The Challenge didn’t involve the extra-fancy production, an extensive cast of reality TV stars, or even a big money prize, as competitors roughed it in an Rv.
Those early years brought Real World and Road Rules together to see which cast might win bragging rights for various missions, among other random prizes they received. Money was on the line at times, but never near the amounts competitors battle for today.
The show’s earliest cast members included legends like The Godfather Mark Long, Darrell Taylor, Jon Brennan, Theo von Kurnatowski, and Veronica Portillo.

Back in 2005, a red-headed, cocky frat boy got on The Real World: Austin by showing up to his audition drunk. It was a spontaneous decision for Wes Bergmann, who had met a girl at his Arizona State University fraternity house the night before. “She was very pretty, and for whatever reason, my moves were somewhat working,” Bergmann, 38, says over the phone from his home in Kansas City.
Eventually, she told him she had to go get some sleep for her Real World audition the next day. “I thought quick on my feet and said,...

“People like to see other people, for some weird reason, do crazy stuff on TV.” That’s Kaycee Clark’s explanation for why MTV’s long-running reality competition show The Challenge has remained so popular since launching in 1998. But Clark isn’t just a fan of the show; she’s a winner too, having triumphed in Season 37’s Spies, Lies & Allies edition.
“It’s just very relatable to a lot of people,” said Clark, who won Big Brother 20 on CBS before jumping to play The Challenge during Season 35 (Total Madness) and Season 36 (Double Agents). Clark, along with longtime contestant Chris “Ct” Tamburello, showrunner Emer Harkin and host T.J. Lavin, joined Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary + Unscripted award-season event to discuss the show.
“It’s the weirdest thing. But I think with this game, it’s just so strategic,” she continued. “It’s hard not to get into it, and it...

Reality TV pioneer Bunim-Murray Productions is throwing its hat into the Nft ring.
The production company teamed with tech startup Virtual Arts to form Wonderfuel, an entertainment company that intends to develop a slate of unscripted TV shows funded by sales of nonfungible tokens (NFTs).
Wonderfuel (wonderfuel.co) plans to shop its shows to traditional TV networks and streaming platforms, and the shows are also expected to be available on Web3 platforms to Nft owners. The companies said that new NFTs — which verify the ownership of unique pieces of digital content using distributed blockchain technology — will be minted and released alongside the shows, giving fans the opportunity to access “unique rewards, from involvement in creative decisions to sharing in prizes and unique fan experiences.”
Wonderfuel’s sale of NFTs will enable both partial and full funding of future shows, the companies said. The new venture will combine the production capabilities of Bunim-Murray with the crypto-enabled,...
