Lost in Space rip-off 😠
MrGroovy70s16 March 2022
I was only 8 when I watched this, only I ended up hating it. But yet, Duane Poole, one of the producers, has said that it was meant to be a spin-off of Happy Days. Oh please, JUST WHO DOES HE EVEN THINK HE'S KIDDING????? DREAM ON. Happy Days, in spite of its melodramatic moments on occasion, was an OK show, but in retrospect, I honestly can't help but think this (along with two other animated versions of Garry Marshall shows, Laverne and Shirley and Mork and Mindy) was much worse. I mean, the similarities between this and the 60's sci-fi family drama Lost in Space are already way too obvious. But yet, Hanna-Barbera just kept doing the same old rehash from their previous shows, say, like, another Lost in Space rip-off from the mid-70's, Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space. Even though I was born in '72, I'll still stick with Schoolhouse Rock, Richie Rich (one of the *better* Hanna-Barbera shows), and the Krofft Supershow compared to this pathetic drivel.

COOL!!! Fonz and the gang in animated form!
TVvuer6922 September 2001
Warning: Spoilers
(Minor Spoilers):

It was pretty good seeing Fonz, Richie, and Ralph as cartoon characters. In this series that aired Saturday mornings on ABC from 1980-82, the three are taken along for their greatest adventures in a time machine resembling a flying saucer by a 25th century babe named Cupcake. I'm not sure if she was human or alien, but she had very goofy magic powers that had very unpredictable results. Of course, they would be predicable in the sense that something would go wrong as you continue watching the series. There have been episodes where Richie and Ralph ended up in period women's clothing, or zapped down to their boxer shorts or even naked altogether (conveniently inside a barrel), or even sight gags where the whole gang is dressed as clowns! Among the funniest magic mishaps was when Cupcake and Merlin the Magician's combined powers caused Richie to turn into a bird (episode "Gone with the Wand")!!! What a riot!!! Ralph thought he could use birdboy for a talent act and gain fame and fortune!

Along for the ride in this time-hopping adventure is the Fonz's dog, Mr. Cool, who tries so hard to be like his master (but with little success). Watch out when he snaps his fingers! Disaster looms whenever that happens! As mentioned, this is a time travel show. Among the places the gang have visited are the Stone Age, ancient China, medieval era, and even the moon in the future. They even managed to get themselves in versions of classic stories like "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "Around the World in 80 Days".

You need not take the show too seriously, but "Fonz and the Happy Days Gang" was entertaining and was full of laughs. There were quite a number of dangers in their time travel trips, but Fonzie always kept his cool and saved the day (whichever year it was), and always managed to get the girl. Perhaps the show could have benefitted a little by adding characters like Potsie and Chachi. That way, you could have the trio of Richie the brain, Ralph the prankster, and Potsie the screwup, while Chachi was there to make his own moves on the girls that fell for Fonzie. Of course if this happened, there probably wouldn't have been a need for Mr. Cool and the show wouldn't have had a mascot for all the kids to like. All in all, the show was enjoyable to watch for fans of "Happy Days".

I Watched This

I wish they had it on TV. I loved it when I was a kid and my mom introduced me to it, I remember I hated Happy Days the real show but this animated show I loved for some reason and especially Fonzie. Fonzie could just punch things and make them work, etc, I remember I wanted a black leather jacket and slicked my hair down for Halloween and I used to try to fix stuff that was "broken" by punching it, like the TV. Really my dad would just turn it on when I punched it but it was fun. I wish I had pictures, I must have looked like a tool. Anyway this is turning into a thing about my life instead of the show but there's not much to say, like the other reviewer said it's just Happy Days for kids, with the same characters etc, just silly stories and adventures. Great show for family/kids.

basically Happy Days for kids

Fonzie, Richie, Ralph, Mr Cool (Fonzie's dog) and a girl from the future named Cupcake, get lost in her time machine. The show is all about them trying to get back to 1957 Milwaukee. Every episode has the group landing at some different period in time and meeting a girl that needs their help. They also find lots of trouble as the adventure begins. Fonzie is the hero (naturally) of the show and all the rest act just scared and stupid. Cupcake has magic powers which never work out they way she, or the others, wants. Mr Cool is much like a Scooby Doo kind of a character that tries to copy Fonzie with not so good results.

This series has been unfairly called one of the worst, if not the worst, cartoons of all time. This is totally wrong. It was a LOT of fun. I watched it on regular basis when it came out in the fall of 1980 and it became one of my favorite Saturday morning shows. Finally there was a Happy Days just for kids! Yes it could be very stupid, but cartoons like this are meant to be stupid in order to be fun. It was not only entertaining in a humorous way but also gave a small lesson in history for the young ones. Note I said small. And seriously, what kid doesn't find time travel interesting? I sure did.

It needs to be remembered that this was a show for kids. I think the new generation could enjoy it as much as I did.

Grin at 'cool' Fonzie and pathetic, nerd friends time travel on a saucer. Titter at cuddly mascot, 'Mr Cool'. Chuckle at the gangs' crazy adventures. Scream with laughter when you realise you've gone blind and you won't have to endure anything minute of this tripe. A horrible, horrible show.
