Greg Kinnear will make his Broadway debut as Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin’s stage adaptation of the classic Harper Lee novel To Kill a Mockingbird, replacing outgoing star Jeff Daniels in January.
Daniels, who originated the role when the play opened on Broadway in 2018 and returned when the production resumed performances after the Covid shutdown, will make his final appearance as Atticus on January 2. Kinnear begins performances on January 5.
Prior to the shutdown, the role was played by Ed Harris, with Kinnear originally set to take over in spring 2020. That plan was interrupted when the Broadway shutdown commenced in March 2020; Daniels and original cast member Celia Keenan-Bolger as Scout agreed to return to the show for limited engagements upon Broadway’s reopening.
Kinnear’s casting was announced today by producer Barry Diller.
Kinnear was Oscar-nominated for his performance in As Good as It Gets and nominated for two primetime Emmys. After finding initial success as the host of TV’s Talk Soup from 1991-95, he segued to an acting career that included roles in You’ve Got Mail, Mystery Men, Nurse Betty, We Were Soldiers, Auto Focus, The Gift, Someone Like You, Little Miss Sunshine, Baby Mama, and House of Cards. He’ll next be seen opposite Courteney Cox in the Starz comedy series Shining Vale and with Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser in the Apple drama series In With The Devil.

It can be easy to forget what stars sound like when they’re not playing a role!
As Renée Zellweger accepted the award for best actress in a motion picture drama at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, many online were surprised to find out — or in some cases, be reminded — that she’s actually from the South.
The Judy star’s Texas accent came out throughout her acceptance speech, especially when she addressed the crowd as “y’all.”

Golden Globe winner Renée Zellweger didn’t just bring Hollywood glamour to the red carpet, she brought the perfect solution to walking in heels with a swollen ankle.
On the red carpet, the Judy star revealed to Access Hollywood’s Mario Lopez that her favorite aspect of her floor-length Armani Privé gown was the way it carefully concealed her twisted ankle.
“Oh lord, I’ve got a bit of a swollen ankle right now and it’s on the right side so that’s perfect,” Zellweger said.

Four is the magic number for Renee Zellweger. She won her fourth Golden Globe on Sunday, Best Drama Actress for “Judy,” pushing her up to fourth place on the all-time film winners list.
Zellweger has now tied Tom Hanks and Shirley MacLaine with a quartet of film statuettes. The Oscar champ previously garnered Best Comedy/Musical Actress for “Nurse Betty” (2000) and “Chicago” (2002) and Best Supporting Actress for “Cold Mountain” (2003). A seven-time nominee, she’s had two nominations since then, for “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” (2004) and “Miss Potter” (2006).
The win also makes Zellweger one of three women who’ve won all three actress film prizes, joining Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.
Only three people have more film wins: Streep holds the record with seven, followed by Jack Nicholson with six and Rosalind Russell, who converted all five of her Globe bids into victories.

Renée Zellweger had a very golden Sunday night.
At the Golden Globes, the star picked up the award for best actress in a motion picture drama for her role in the film Judy.
It was a crowded category. Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story), Saoirse Ronan (Little Women), Charlize Theron (Bombshell), were all also up for the prize.
This is Zellweger’s fourth Golden Globe win.
As her role in Judy marks a comeback performance of sorts, the actress spoke about returning to the Hollywood scene in her acceptance speech.

Updated with video from speech: Tonight at the Beverly Hilton, Renée Zellweger won her fourth Golden Globe, for her turn as Judy Garland in Rupert Goold’s Judy.
“Well hi, everybody. It’s nice to see you. You all look pretty good, 17 years later. Thank you to the HFPA for inviting me back to the family reunion, especially with all these extraordinary ladies this year,” Zellweger said. “Your work moves me, and I’ve been cheering for y’all from theater seats for a long time.”
In her acceptance speech, the actress gave thanks to her “partners in crime”—the people who have reminded her, she says, that “the top doesn’t matter. It’s the journey that matters, and the work that matters.”

Renée Zellweger isn’t just a best actress front-runner this awards season, she’s leading the pack for “Best Dressed” as well.
The 47-year-old actress, whose portrayal of Judy Garland in Rupert Goold’s biopic earned rave reviews (and lots of nominations), arrived at the 2020 Golden Globes in a strapless baby blue Armani Privé gown, featuring a thigh-high slit and crystal-embroidered piping. Zellweger pulled her blonde hair back in a loose updo and wore a soft pink lipstick. She accessorized with matching Jimmy Choo pumps and a gold cuff.

The autumn is a special time in the world of awards punditry. After speculating in the spring and merely surveying in the summer, we’re finally able to screen most of the films in the fall. As we now brace for winter and the first round of nominations and critics’ awards, we have some idea of what we might expect.
It’s kind of like when Dorothy wakes up in Oz and everything is suddenly in vivid color. We’re not in the state of Kansas (or clueless) anymore.
And speaking of Dorothy…
One of the most talked-about performances of the season is that of Renee Zellweger as Judy Garland in “Judy.” Her bravura performance as the tragic entertainer has earned her raves. An Academy Award nomination for Best Actress seems as certain as the smile on Glinda, the Good Witch of the South.
But things won’t be going south for Zellweger anytime soon.

After years away from the spotlight Renee Zellweger made a comeback this fall with her performance as Judy Garland in the biopic “Judy,” but her comeback actually started several months earlier with her starring role in the Netflix limited series “What/If.” We already know she’s a Golden Globes front-runner for “Judy” (and the Oscars front-runner too), but could she get a surprise second Globe nom for her role on the streaming series?
“What/If” isn’t the kind of program you’d typically think of as awards bait. It’s a provocative thriller from Mike Kelley, who previously created the similarly sexy primetime soap “Revenge.” But the Globes often love a juicy soap. They awarded Best TV Drama Series to twisty relationship dramas like “Nip/Tuck” (2005), “Grey’s Anatomy” (2007) and “The Affair” (2015), and they gave Best TV Comedy Series to “Desperate Housewives” (2005-2006) and “Ugly Betty” (2007). “Revenge” also earned a 2012 Globe nomination for scene-stealing villainess Madeleine Stowe.

Best Actress Oscar favorite Renee Zellweger is also out in front in our Golden Globes predictions for Best Drama Actress. With 10/3 odds, the “Judy” star looks solid to add a fourth Golden Globe to her trophy case, which would put her tied in fourth place on the all-time film winners list.
Zellweger, whose first three Globes were in Best Comedy/Musical Actress for “Nurse Betty” (2000) and “Chicago” (2002) and Best Supporting Actress for “Cold Mountain,” would join Tom Hanks and Shirley MacLaine as four-time champs on the film side. Just three people have more wins: Meryl Streep holds the record with seven, followed by Jack Nicholson with six and Rosalind Russell, who converted all five of her Globe bids into wins.
The fourth win in film is quite a difficult barrier to crack at the Globes, considering that Zellweger is one of a whopping 18 people who’ve won three. Other three-time champs include Jack Lemmon,...

Morgan Freeman once quoted the nautical saying “long foretold, long last; short notice, soon past” to describe his acting career. He meant that it took him along time to achieve success in the acting profession but he hoped his long struggle would mean his career would last and not prove to be just a flash in the pan. His career has lasted and Freeman has had a nearly 30-year film career in major movies.
Freeman’s career started on the New York stage in the musical theater when he took over the role of Rudy the Maître d’ of the restaurant where the famous title number is performed. He was part of the groundbreaking moment when Pearl Bailey led an all-black cast into the production which had been running for years with white performers.
In the 1970s Freeman appeared for seven years and 680 episodes of the children’s television series “The Electric Company.

Renée Zellweger is a bit of an enigma. The actress had a huge moment in the spotlight during the late-‘90s and early-2000s, with films like “Jerry Maguire,” “Nurse Betty,” “Chicago,” and “Bridget Jones’ Diary.” Those films launched her into the A-list and she rode that wave to great acclaim, with Golden Globe nominations and an Academy Award win for her role in “Cold Mountain.” Then as the 2010s hit, the actress pretty much retreated from the limelight.

Upon seeing Harvey Weinstein in handcuffs yesterday our friend Rob asked a very timely question on Twitter which we though we'd share here for rabid discussion purposes.
In the spirit of the day: Which ridiculous Oscar nomination that Harvey Weinstein facilitated was the most infuriatingly egregious?
My personal vote goes to Chocolat's 5 nominations (including Best Picture!!!) in 2000. The fluffy disposable film was nominated over obviously well-liked films like Billy Elliott, Wonder Boys, and Almost Famous... and great but divisive films like Dancer in the Dark and.
And though Juliette Binoche is one of the all time great screen actors, there was simply no excuse for that Best Actress nod when Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) and Björk (Dancer in the Dark) were both Right There, totally inspired, and more than worthy of nominations. Even further outside the race there were still other leading ladies who were running circles...

One of the highlights of the 2009 Academy Awards ceremony was the surprise addition of 20 Oscar winners presenting to that year’s acting nominees. It started with five Best Supporting Actress champs (Whoopi Goldberg, Goldie Hawn, Anjelica Huston, Eva Marie Saint, Tilda Swinton) who gave out the award to Penelope Cruz, welcoming her to their club. While all of those presenting that evening had indeed won the category before, each one often had no connection at all to the person they were introducing.
The following year new producers followed a similar format of five people presenting to a new crop of five for the lead categories only. While all of them had working relationships with the nominees (like Michelle Pfeiffer for Jeff Bridges and Stanley Tucci for Meryl Streep), most of them were not Oscar winners.

Allison Janney had a rocky road to success as an actress and probably had many doubts that she would ever achieve the level of success she has. That’s all behind her now with her seven Emmy wins for acting placing her in second place all-time just one trophy behind Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. And now with her 2017 film “I Tonya” bringing her the biggest silver screen success of her career, let’s take a look back at her stellar work in movies.

While last night’s Golden Globes unequivocally belonged to La La Land, it started out with one of the biggest shocks of this awards season: Aaron Taylor-Johnson winning Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for Nocturnal Animals. Does this surprise upset mean the British thespian is gearing up for winning Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars?
It’s important to first note that even Taylor-Johnson’s Golden Globes nomination wasn’t expected by most awards season prognosticators and, if someone from Tom Ford’s latest flick were to have a shot at the trophy, their money was placed on co-star Michael Shannon. And when it came to winning most had their money on Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Jeff Bridges (Hell or High Water), Dev Patel (Lion), or even Simon Helberg (Florence Foster Jenkins) — not Taylor-Johnson.

Netflix, the world's leading Internet TV network, is bringing its members two brand new comedy specials from one of the funniest and most influential comedians of all time: the one and only Chris Rock. Marking the multiple Emmy Award-winning comedian’s return to stand-up after an eight-year absence, Rock will tape two all-new specials that will debut on Netflix around the world. The first show will tape in 2017, following a new world tour being planned now.
Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer said:
"Chris Rock is a beloved actor and director, and his remarkable stand-up makes him comic royalty. There is no one like him, and Netflix offers the global platform and creative freedom that will serve as a perfect home for someone with his incredible talent.”
Rock added:
“I'm very excited to be working with Ted and Lisa and all the good people at Netflix. I can't wait to get back on stage.

A few hints of stagnation aside, this franchise remains a terrifyingly trenchant dystopia. A brutal vision of an America not far removed from our own. I’m “biast” (pro): love the previous films
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
I can’t figure out why the Purge movies haven’t been more successful. Oh, they’ve done fine financially, particularly thanks to their very low budgets. Election Year reportedly cost only $10 million to produce (and that’s many multiples of the budgets of the first two films), which is pocket change in Hollywood, and has grossed more than $100 million worldwide, and it’s only just opening today in the UK, so it will add to that tally. But they don’t seem to have had much cultural impact, which is odd seeing how this franchise continues to be one of...

SyFy’s Van Helsing has found its lead in Kelly Overton. The 13-episode take on the myth of Dracula will star Overton as the granddaughter of legendary vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing who is resurrected five years in the future to find that vampires have taken over the world.
So she starts off dead? Or has she been cryogenically frozen specifically to be preserved until her talents — whatever those may be — are needed? In what five-years-ahead future does this take place? If her grandfather was, say, 35 at the time of Dracula (published in 1897), his child could conceivably be an infant around then and would have its own child perhaps 30 years later, meaning approximately 1930. So going by Overton’s real-life age of 37, and adding in those five years she’s dead (or whatever), this would be 1972?
Lots of questions, but for me, the biggest mystery is why her name is Vanessa Helsing versus Vanessa Van Helsing.

Assuming that hot comedienne Amy Schumer isn't ready for primetime, she'd make a damn fine Oscar presenter, and with Chris Rock now confirmed to host the 88th Academy Awards on February 28 (ABC), he'll be able to land her, as he directed her raunchy Live at the Apollo TV special which aired on HBO this week. (Watch Rock's opening monologue from the 2005 Oscars in the clip above.) Triple-threat writer-director-star Rock already hosted the Oscars before, to strong critical reviews, in 2005, but got some blowback from industry insiders. And new show co-producer Reginald Hudlin has collaborated with the comedian, directing the pilot of his shuttered TV series “Everybody Hates Chris.” Last year Rock wrote and directed Paramount's "Top Five," starring himself and Rosario Dawson, and in 2009 wrote and produced the documentary "Good Hair." Besides writing, starring in and producing multiple features ("Nurse Betty," "The Longest Yard"),...

The 88th Academy Awards will be broadcast live on Oscar Sunday, February 28, 2016, on the ABC Television Network. Rock previously hosted the 77th Oscars telecast in 2005.
“Chris Rock is truly the Mvp of the entertainment industry,” said Hill and Hudlin. “Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian – he’s done it all. He’s going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!”
“I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars,” said Rock. “It’s great to be back.”
“We share David and Reggie’s excitement in welcoming Chris, whose comedic voice has really defined a generation,” said Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs. “He is certain to bring his amazing array of talents to this year’s show.

Do you hear that? It's wedding bells for Peter Facinelli and Jaimie Alexander! The duo may have been at the center of engagement rumors last year, but a source tells E! You're seeing that damn J-Lo movie this weekend, right? I already saw it! Get this: creepier and better than you think! Definitely better than "Obsessed," which was not good or campy enough for human consumption. After you get your fix of the delicious Ryan Guzman, check back online to watch some of these classic stalker titles. Fatal Attraction (Netflix) Glenn Close is right: This movie is dated and treats mentally ill people unfairly. Here's where Glenn Close is wrong: It's still a watchable, entertaining movie still because Glenn Close is the best damn actress of the past 40 years. She is a risky artist who somehow got to be a gigantic star, and she did it by choosing projects that almost no one else could tackle. Adore her forever. "Dangerous Liaisons" is also an insane treat. Why did she do "Albert Nobbs" to us? Stalker (Hulu) The world did the right...
