Exclusive: Dennis Quaid has signed on to star in The Hill, a family drama penned by Angelo Pizzo and the late Scott Marshall Smith, who passed away in December.
The film will tell the true story of Rickey Hill, a kid who overcame his physical disability to play professional baseball. Given the complexities Rickey faced in his relationship with his father, his is a story about more than just athletics. It’s also a story about family, and what one young man can do to follow his dream.
Quaid will portray Rickey’s father, Pastor Hill, an instinctively protective man who doesn’t want his son to go out into the world to pursue his dream, fearing that he’ll get ridiculed for his disability. Ultimately, Hill’s tough exterior is broken as Rickey grows up and proves his natural ability.
Jeff Celentano is directing the film, cast by Rick Montgomery (Green Book), which will go before cameras in Georgia in November.
He’s also producing alongside Warren Ostergard, with Matthew Dwyer, Michael Hollingsworth, Michael Blubaugh and Rickey Hill serving as exec producers.
The rest of the film’s cast has not yet been announced.
“I’m setting out to make an iconic film in the classic sense, a beautiful sweeping and powerful inspirational story. One that will stand the test of time like Blindside, Rudy, Field of Dreams and The Natural. Dennis was the first and only person I thought of for the lead role upon reading the script,” said Celentano. “There’s no doubt in my mind that he has the ability to play a loving, caring father while at the same time a staunch, powerful man – all the qualities needed to bring Pastor Hill’s character to life.”
“Since the 1970s in particular, the sports film has gained increasing recognition as one of the most important and popular genres in contemporary cinema,” added Quaid. “I couldn’t be more excited about this project. This film will no doubt further validate the power of American social mobility and show that in America you can choose to be what you want.”
Quaid is an Emmy nominee and two-time Golden Globe nominee best known on the film side for turns in Yours, Mine & Ours, In Good Company, The Day After Tomorrow, Cold Creek Manor, Far from Heaven, The Rookie, Wyatt Earp, Postcards from the Edge and other titles.
The actor’s recent TV credits include Netflix’s Merry Happy Whatever, Amazon’s Goliath and Fortitude, and Crackle’s The Art of More.
He’ll next appear in Alex Ranarivelo’s Born a Champion, Julio Quintana’s Blue Miracle, Andrew and Jon Erwin’s American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story, Ray Giarratana’s The Tiger Rising, Sean McNamara’s Reagan, in which he’ll play the actor-turned president, and more.
Quaid is represented by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.

Need to catch up? Check out last week’s Power recap here.
For months now, Power has been telling us that “Ghost must die.” This week’s episode brings home the point that if/when James St. Patrick goes to that big nightclub in the sky, Tommy probably won’t be the one who holds the velvet rope aside for him.
Yep, Tommy gets the perfect chance to off his former business partner — per Lobos’ orders — but finds himself literally unable to pull the trigger, a failing he fears will leave him and Holly deader than their pooch once jefe finds out.

Sandra Bullock has had a varied and extended career filled with several highs. Most recently, she took 2013 by storm with her powerful, Oscar-nominated performance in Gravity. 31. Speed 2: Cruise Control
It’s like Speed but on a boat and minus Keanu Reeves. Here’s the thing: no one really asked for it. The idea may have sounded great but honestly, it was, like, maybe don’t.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 3%
Box Office: $164 million
30. All About Steve

5) The Ruby Suns “In Real Life”
Directed by Simon Ward
Presented as an American Idol spoof, “In Real Life” is a clever song about escapism and director Simon Ward provides us with an entertaining video to match. We see Ruby Suns frontman Ryan McPhun participating in a game show called “Are You Good at Something?” singing along to the words “I never want to live in real life”. He also plays the judges and audiences members anchoring the message of the song. The anti-reality anthem is the soundtrack to a video that condenses a whole season of the show into four minutes, the video cleverly includes a range of people, genres and covers all aspects of the talent show.
4) Indians “I Am Haunted”
Directed by Winston H. Case
This video is driven by an interesting revolving camera perspective that shows Soren Lokke Juul of Indians as a helpless prisoner tied to a chair.

At the start of the week, we examined the state of the A-list leading man, and why, outside of those who've been big draws for years -- Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Johnny Depp et al. -- so few stars seemed to be reliable at bringing audiences to their pictures. But when you look at the leading ladies, things are even more puzzling.
Put simply, the number of actreses who can be deemed consistent box office draws seems to diminish, rather than grow, as each year goes on. In part, it's because it's so rare for the major blockbusters to be lead by a woman: of the top 20 worldwide grossers last year, only "Twilight" could arguably be said to be led by a woman, and holding up those films as a victory for womankind would be an error, given their prehistoric sexual politics. 2010 was a little better, thanks to "Black Swan" and "Alice in Wonderland,...

Sandra Bullock is one of the world's most popular, most recognizable and longest-lasting movie stars. She arrived on July 26, 1964, as Sandra Annette Bullock, the daughter of opera singer Helga Meyer and voice coach and Pentagon contractor John Bullock. Though she was born in Arlington, Virginia, Bullock actually grew up in Nuremberg, Germany, where she first dipped her toes in the entertainment waters by studying vocal arts and ballet dancing, and appearing (briefly) in some of her mother's shows. She returned to the States in the mid-70's, attending high school and then going to college at East Carolina University in North Carolina, but she exited before graduation in order to chase her acting dream. It wasn't long before Bullock -- initially based in New York City -- started to find work. She landed a role in the back-door pilot Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman...

Sandra Bullock's Mom Dies
Sandra Bullock has dropped everything and flown back to her Texan home following the death of her mother. The grieving Speed (1994) star was devastated to hear her mother, German opera singer HELGA MEYER, had passed away and immediately rushed to her mother's home. But her absence has left a few problems for the cast of her new movie 28 Days (2000) - who were expecting her to show up at the film's lavish Hollywood world premiere tomorrow. A source close to the star says, "Sandra is very upset and we don't think she'll be attending the premiere. "Obviously, at a time like this, she just wants to be with her family and friends." German-born Helga had previously worked alongside her daughter and sang on the soundtrack of her last movie Gun Shy (2000).
