With the long-brewing, long-awaited Silence finally arriving, 2016 will be a big year for Martin Scorsese. And with the specter of a new film from our personal favorite hanging in the air, we should take time to explore a slightly fresh perspective on his amazing career: the juxtaposition of neo-realism and postmodernism.
If you can look past the, let’s say, overly emphatic voiceover, there’s something to be gleaned from this video’s proper use of visual examples — precisely what’s needed for an explication of juxtaposition and why any of that matters in the first place. If something can get you to think about Goodfellas and Raging Bull in any new ways, a bit of commendation is in order.
Giving this video an unfortunate significance is the passing of David Bowie, a collaborator — and, sadly, only one-time collaborator — of Scorsese. As much as people forget his role, the musician-actor made a rather remarkable,...

The world has been mourning the loss of David Bowie over the last several days, and if we needed further evidence, his death has revealed just how profound an impact his work has had on us both culturally and individually. Each of us has our own personal experience with Bowie, or more often, a series of them. Like many, my earliest introduction was via “Labyrinth” and his indelible portrayal of the Goblin King. I don’t even think I connected the dots that this was the same man who played Pontius Pilate in Martin Scorsese's “The Last Temptation of Christ” when my parents introduced me to that film a few years later, another that made an imprint one me that remains to this day. Bowie’s work has been with me throughout my life, whether as an inspiration as a student in film school or to serve to spark my imagination as a child.

Just over a year and a half since the release of his debut album, Speed Of Life, Serbian-born, Australia-based DJ/producer Dragan Roganovic, aka Dirty South, returns to the fold with his second studio effort, With You. Not only is the record the soundtrack to an accompanying 38-minute film directed by the house musician himself, but it also features vocal contributions from a range of impressive acts, including Rudy, Ruben Haze, J Hart, Fmlybnd, Kids Without Instruments and Sam Martin
With You is a twelve-track collection of warm, melodic dance tunes – many of which possess a strong pop sensibility. Characterized by their easygoing romanticism and use of euphoric airy synths, the tracks easily gel together. The majority of the songs are notably radio-friendly, with more than a couple of them resembling some of the year’s better Edm chart crossover tracks. At its best, With You is heartfelt and almost tranquil.

Thursday was a big first day for live-blogging at San Diego Comic-Con. I live-blogged "Penny Dreadful," "Community," "Under the Dome" (ugh) and "24." Friday (July 25) started with "Big Bang Theory," which I'll write up later, but didn't live-blog. Now it's time for chaos, with live-blogs for "The Walking Dead," "Game of Thrones" and "Arrow," plus possibly "The Originals," depending on timing. Whee! Up first? The Hall H panel for "The Walking Dead," which is likely to be as big as any panel at Comic-Con, featuring stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Chad Coleman and Michael Cudlitz, showrunner Scott Gimple, franchise creator Robert Kirkman, long-running EPs Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert, producer-director-makeup genius Greg Nicotero and moderator Chris Hardwick, who might as well be on the panel himself. Let's see what goes down! 12:25 p.m. We're running a bit late. But we'll be starting soon.

We first came across The Saline Project's work through their series of black-and-white lenticular GIFs, capturing an array of film noir-ish villains.
Intrigued by the force behind these spooky GIFs from the start, we were all the more excited to learn The Saline Project was a four person creative team behind an incredible selection of music videos, including legends like The Cure, Eminem and The Roots. All the music videos look as if filmed in alternate reality between video games and real life, where colors are brighter, surfaces glossier and sounds are thicker. We're also huge suckers for their video descriptions, such as this one for the Mars Volta vid: "We may or may have not illegally travelled to a certain totalitarian police state to shoot elements for this fully animated music video."
The Saline Project is Adam Toht and Ben Toht, 3D artist/designer Jesse Roff, and animator Liam Kirtley.

Who had episode four in the TV Fanatic pool for when Annie would be back working for the Dpd? I sure didn't, but after getting the boot from Lena for apparently botching the Simon mission, that's exactly where Annie ends up in "Speed of Life."
This isn't setting the reset button, though. When I was worried that Covert Affairs might send all the stories back to the status quo too soon after the season premiere, I wasn't imagining this. This we can work with.
Annie was sent back to work at the Dpd, but since Simon came back for her by the end of the hour, and she accepted his profession of "like," the situation is still very fluid. She might just go rogue at this point. Lena might Have to bring her back into the fold if she's spending just as much time with Simon as she was before.
