The release of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster has thrown gamers for a nostalgic loop as they once again explore the zombie-infested shopping mall in Willamette, Colorado. Taking on the role of the photographic journalist Frank West, it’s up to the player to not only survive but thwart a world-ending plan.
Left to his own devices, Frank must improvise using the many things found inside the mall to take on the undead hordes. While some weapons are more unconventional than others, there are a few that aren’t just lying around on the ground waiting to be picked up, so if you’re hoping to unlock the two unique weapons that are a direct reference to another of Capcom’s major franchises,.

The episode in question has been confirmed to be set in the world of Armored Core, and the possible Keanu Reeves can actually be seen at two points in the Secret Level teaser, once at the :30 mark and again at the :51 mark. Capcom recently released its latest financial reports, and the company’s performance is garnering quite a bit of attention. While Capcom’s earnings are down year-over-year, the studio reports that all of its divisions have outperformed internal expectations so far and that the company is well on its way to meeting or surpassing its expectations for the year.

The Snk vs. Capcom series has entertained us through many imaginative clashes over the years. Originating as a fun card game, it grew into epic fighting games pitting legendary characters against one another. Snk vs. Capcom 2 remains beloved for how seamlessly it blended both companies’ worlds.
Naturally, fans anticipated how Snk might interpret the crossover in their own developed entry. Svc Chaos had the potential for new surprises and unmatched combat scenarios. Yet upon its release, critics noted several shortcomings compared to Capcom’s polished entries.
While Svc Chaos paid tribute to classic brawlers with loyal renditions of characters, certain choices left audiences wanting. The roster leaned too heavily on Street Fighter standbys over diverse selections. Controls felt unoptimized for intense showdowns. Unbalanced secret characters disrupted the competitive spirit.
Still, Svc Chaos brought entertainment through creative character designs and lavish pixel art. Hidden challenges too kept fans determined. Though it lacked refinement in places,...

To this day, video games based on movies are widely treated as kind of a joke. While many agree that there are a few exceptions to the rule, the general consensus suggests that they are largely awful cash grabs representative of another era when gamers and parents could be easily fooled into buying something if was attached to a familiar, non-gaming name. To be fair, that reputation has been forged by countless games fitting that description.
Yet, those games’ greatest sin may just be they have polluted the cultural waters for genuinely great (or at least incredibly interesting) games based on movies. Those games seem destined to be overlooked and undervalued because of their association with outside properties, which is a shame given that they should serve as guiding lights toward a better way to make these kinds of games that are far harder to find in the modern era.

While video games have enjoyed a surprisingly long history of quality spin-offs, the fact is that the vast majority of video game spin-offs could most generously be described as forgotten. For every Mario Kart, Mega Man X, World of Warcraft, or Metroid Prime, you have hundreds of spin-off games that have largely been lost to time.
Yet, some forgotten video game spin-offs are far more interesting than others. Some are quite good and deserve more recognition than they’ll probably ever get. Others seem like they should have been a bigger deal than they ultimately were. Together, each of these games will make you ask some variation of the always fascinating question, “Wait, that game exists?”
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne – Mega Man (1999)
Given that the mainline Mega Man series tends to go dormant for long periods, it’s easy to forget that Mega Man is one of the most prolific franchises in gaming.

Inspired by the record-breaking success of Mario and Sonic, various video game studios throughout the 1990s endeavored to create their own big mascot characters that would certainly become gaming’s next big thing. Many starred in platformers, some represented entire consoles, and others were simply mascot-style characters prominently placed in new titles with only vague hopes of mainstream success. Most of them failed spectacularly.
In those failures, you’ll find lots of laughs, vague memories, and more than a few animals with attitudes left by the roadside. Yet, there are lessons to be learned from those swings and misses. Was the rise and fall of the mascot game a simple case of a bloated market or were larger cultural factors to blame? Were there great games and mascots that got lost along the way? Perhaps most importantly, is there any chance of the mascot movement making a serious comeback in the modern era?...

When a property runs long enough, there are adaptations and versions of the characters that become infamous for being so off the mark and bizarre. There’s that time when Dennis Hopper played Bowser as a politician with silly hair in a dinosaur dystopia. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles once went on tour as a rock band. The United States made a Godzilla movie so bad that the monster was later killed within seconds in a fight against the true Godzilla. The animated series Captain N: The Game Master once introduced Alucard as a radical skateboarding teenager with sunglasses.
Captain N also gave us a terrible take on Mega Man, making him an annoying toddler-looking guy with a froggy voice. That isn’t the most infamous version of the Blue Bomber…even if he wasn’t even blue. No, that honor goes to the character on the cover of the first Mega Man game.

And speaking of games here’s our pick of ten Nes gems that deserve a second look from modern-day retro gamers!
1) Little Samson
Often overshadowed by other platformers like Mario and Mega Man, Little Samson is a hidden gem. Its unique gameplay mechanics and charming characters make it a must-play for Nes enthusiasts.
2) Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom

If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, then Lucid Dream Studios’s Biomorph is extremely flattering. Visually, the game is above reproach, as its cartoonish art style potently captures the strikingly different biomes of Ilios and the freakish ways in which the processing of oil-like ferrox has mutated the planet’s life. But beneath that surface, the game’s nonlinear structure is both mechanically unbalanced and narratively confusing. Ultimately, protagonist Harlo’s ability to harvest the genetic data of his enemies and transform into them at will is more of a novelty than a transformative take on the 2D Metroidvania.
At its best, Biomorph is a fun mashup of Mega Man and Kirby, with Harlo able to equip three different technological attacks and morph into a customizable set of three (of an unlockable 21) creatures. These animals are varied in appearance and, for the most part, functionality, like the spring-jumping Spyrux or dust-warping Sorios.

You’re not imagining things: video games really have gotten easier over the years. That’s due, in large part, to the now-common addition of variable difficulty settings and other accessibility options. While some gamers complain these things make games too easy, they’re a welcome change for many of us who grew up in the ‘80s.
Much of the Nes library was known for its extreme difficulty. Part of that was due to the console’s technical limitations. It just wasn’t always easy to make characters move as developers intended. Sometimes it was much more conscious. Developers would make games harder so that they would last longer and so that gamers couldn’t just blow through titles in a weekend rental. But even keeping those things in mind, a few developers went above and beyond to create some of the most devious and fiendishly difficult challenges imaginable. Decades later,...

New Switch games that are heavily influenced by the 16-bit era of gaming are something I will always get very very excited about. The 16-bit era and the Super Nintendo in particular is the time I started to really get into gaming and also my love of platformers.
Berserk Boy is a retro, but modern, action-platformer for fans of the Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog games, but it never feels like it is copying either. Berserk Boy is very much its own thing.
As a fan of Mario games, a good story is not something I really need to enjoy a game but Berserk Boy does have a fun one. It goes like this. “In the distant future, a mad scientist and his army of darkness seek to enslave the people of Earth. Hope for all humanity rests with The Resistance, but are they enough? After the success of "Game of Thrones," HBO seems to be taking the same approach as AMC with "The Walking Dead" and doubling down on spinoffs of their flagship program. Season 1 of "House of the Dragon" was met with critical and audience acclaim, and the series premiere was watched by over 10 million on the first day, the biggest in HBO history. There's been talk of a film centered on Aegon Targaryen for quite some time, but news today seems to imply that HBO has decided to deliver a full-on series, rather than a singular film.
According to an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is developing a series called "Aegon's Conquest," and has tapped Mattson Tomlin to helm the series. Tomlin is one of the most sought-after writers currently working, having contributed uncredited work to Matt Reeves' "The Batman," co-writing the sequel "The Batman Part II," co-writing the adaptation of Keanu Reeves' "Brzrkr,...

HBO is delving even further into the Westeros history books: The network is eyeing a prequel to Game of Thrones focused on the reign of Aegon I Targaryen, with writer Mattson Tomlin (The Batman) slated to pen the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The proposed series — which is only in the very early stages of development at this time — would take place about a century before HBO’s current prequel House of the Dragon (which itself is set 200 years prior to Game of Thrones) and tell the tale of King Aegon I Targaryen, who was the very first to...

Though there are many things that make the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) one of the greatest consoles ever made, it’s the game’s arcade-like action experiences that arguably age best. Those titles were not just often the showcase for the many things that Sega aspired to do with the Genesis but the kind of purely enjoyable games that remain wonderfully easy to return to after 30+ years.
While I come to celebrate the best of the best of those games today, please note that defining the seemingly simple action genre can be a remarkably challenging experience. For the purposes of this list, I tried to focus on more “pure” action games where the combat was the main draw. Among other things, that meant that Action RPGs and more platforming-heavy Action Platformer titles weren’t really considered for this list. We’ll pay homage to games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Beyond Oasis another day.

One of the things that has marked out this current generation of consoles is the re-releases of old(er) games on new formats – something that has given new life to old franchises and resurrected long-dead games And games that never saw the light of day either worldwide or merely just Western audiences.
This is where Cyber Citizen Shockman and its sequel come in.
Cyber Citizen Shockman was a PC Engine franchise, a console that never really made it to the UK outside of the big import gamers of the time (I yearned for a PC Engine back in the day and still have never played on one to this day). The PC Engine did debut in the US as the Turbografx 16 but not all the games in the PC Engine catalogue made it out to the US.

In our look at the best Super Nintendo RPGs ever, we mentioned that the Snes is arguably the greatest RPG console in video game history. Well, if there is a console that makes that discussion an argument, it would have to be the PlayStation One.
With a lot of help from Square, Sony quickly established the PlayStation as not just the home of incredible RPG experiences but as a console that was capable of effectively convincing people who previously had no real interest in RPGs that they absolutely needed to devote 50+ hours of their life to the next gaming epic. That sudden rise in genre popularity inspired some of the industry’s greatest RPG developers to try to outdo each other creatively and commercially.
The result was a classic collection of role-playing experiences that still rank comfortably among the absolute best ever made. With due respect to the 20+ other games...

The stereotype of a gamer being a young, vulgar male loner playing all hours of night and day in their parents’ basement was never terribly accurate. After all, in 2021, 41% of the 189 million video game players were female, and a new study from Fandom disproves further notions. Culled from a sampling of 15,000 from the site’s 350 million monthly visitors, the biggest revelation is that millennials, generally aged 27-42, are the biggest gamer demographic. 52% of this age group identifies video games as their top recreational hobby.
Among other highlights from the study, 80% of those polled claimed that they’d play a game even if they weren’t already a fan of a given franchise, which is the kind of experimental courage of which moviegoers could use more. Meanwhile, over the last five years, engagement has increased across every demographic, platform and genre with 45% of gamers spending more time with their favorite hobby than ever before.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie expected to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom with an $85M-$90M 5-Day opening
The box office is about to feel the power of a Super Mushroom when The Super Mario Bros. Movie butt stomps into cinemas. According to Deadline, Illumination/Universal/Nintendo’s Mario movie is advancing toward an $85M-$90M Easter holiday weekend opening. The 5-day opening tracks the film for Wednesday through Sunday, casting a wide net to add as many golden coins to its purse as possible. I’ll tell you this, though. I would not be surprised if The Super Mario Bros. Movie makes over $90M during the 5-day window. Like, way more.
Fan responses to The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailers have been outstanding, with many planning to rush to theaters as soon as it opens. I plan to see the movie immediately, preferably at a late-night screening to avoid a kid-dominated crowd. Speaking of the kiddos, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is tracking well with boys and girls under 12 equally.

It should be obvious by now that, through the Nindies, the Switch has become The home for retro-styled indie games. Games like The Messenger, an amazing homage to Ninja Gaiden; the amazing Venture Kid, a wonderful homage to the games that I truly loved on the Nes like Adventure Island, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers and Mega Man. Even titles like Raging Justice, which echo side-scrolling beat ‘em-ups like Final Fight. Hell, we’ve even had a redux of The Ninja Warriors on the Switch too! As someone who grew up in the era of the Nes and Snes, when game like these were the pinnacle of gaming for me I’m like the proverbial pig in sh*t when it comes to retro games on the Switch – and they keep giving us more and more and more!

Following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox earlier in the year, a report was released that led many to believe that the much rumored Mega Man live-action project had been permanently shelved. However, thanks to the Japanese publisher’s financial results, which were released today, it looks like Capcom is still in the process of developing a pic centered on the pint-sized Blue Bomber, as well as a movie set in the Monster Hunter universe, too.
Here’s the rundown from Capcom’s new financial report:
…To generate synergy with its popular games via greater global brand awareness and value, the Company has been producing world-leading content, with brands such as Street Fighter and Resident Evil being made into Hollywood movies, now followed by Monster Hunter and Mega Man, which are also scheduled for live-action film adaptation.

While the concept of a small, furry animal piloting a large, threatening mech is a little bit, uh, *holds up spork,* Gato Roboto managed to win me over from its first reveal. I just loved the dumb little cat, the music, and that killer logo (so much so I set it as my phone wallpaper for a while). Plop a Devolver Digital splash screen in the trailer and I was sold.
Promising a small but tightly designed “Catroidvania” (Christ), Gato Roboto holds up its end of the bargain pretty well. It’s small, sure, but there’s some charm here that, while sort of stock-standard for this kind of indie title, managed to give its cold black and white art style some warmth. There aren’t any big surprises, but I found it pretty refreshing to sit down and knock out in just a handful of hours thanks to some great pacing.

Billed as a a lovingly crafted 8-bit retro action platformer that goes beyond just pixels and chiptunes, Venture Kid is a throwback to the golden age of cartridge games; a tribute, a love letter if you will, to the platforming genre and the Nes-era of platforming in particular. Having debuted on mobile some years ago, Venture Kid finally makes it to Nintendo’s latest console, where it faces stiff competition from a myriad of 8-bit pixel platformer – including the very game series it homages, Mega Man, with the Mega Man Legacy Collection.
Though if I’m honest, to me, Venture Kid felt more like the Famicom game Little Dracula than Mega Man, with similar cutesy graphics to that chibi-Castlevania game… For those that haven’t played that particular game, think visuals more akin to Adventure Island or [dare I say it?] the Master System classic Alex Kidd.

The rumor emerged on the Spawn Wave YouTube channel, citing Liam Robertson (a writer with a good reputation for scoops) as its source. Spawn Wave makes it clear that nothing here has been confirmed publicly, and therefore we should come at this story with some skepticism.

“It” director Andy Muschietti is attached to develop a movie version of H.G. Wells’ “The Time Machine” with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way producing along with Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures.
Andy Muschietti and his producer sister, Barbara Muschietti, have written a treatment for the film and Andy Muschietti will direct the project. Barbara Muschietti will produce with DiCaprio and Appian Way’s Jennifer Davisson.

After the record-breaking box office run of “It,” director Andy Muschietti has found his next project.
Muschietti will direct a feature film adaptation of “Attack on Titans” for Warner Bros. The studio finalized a deal with Japan-based publishing company Kodansha on Monday.
“Attack on Titan,” written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, has become one of the best-selling manga series with over 76 million copies in print since debuting in 2009. It is set in a world in which humanity lives in cities surrounded by enormous walls protecting themselves from gigantic humanoids that are referred to as titans.
David Heyman is producing the film with Masi Oka (“Mega Man”) and Andy’s sister Barbara Muschietti (“It” and “Mama”).
This isn’t the first time “Attack on Titan” is getting the big screen treatment. Shinji Higuchi directed a Japanese version in 2015. It was released in two parts and earned $46 million. In 2013, Wit Studios debuted an anime television series.

Capcom Thursday announced that it will be adapting “Mega Man” into a live-action Hollywood film, confirming news first reported in July that “Catfish” directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman were in final negotiations to direct and write the script.
The film, currently under the working title “Mega Man,” will be written and directed by Joost and Schulman and distributed by 20th Century Fox. Additionally, it will be produced by Chernin Entertainment and Masi Oka. While there are no details regarding what kind of narrative the film will follow, Capcom states that it will be aiming to appeal to a “diverse audience” that includes gamers as well as fans of action movies. It will maintain the “world” of “Mega Man” games, but incorporate the production values and entertainment factors that Hollywood releases are typically known for, according to Capacom.
