Wright’s family confirmed the death to the BBC in a statement earlier today.
“It is with deep sorrow and profound regret that we announce the passing of our beloved Steve Wright,” they said. “In addition to his son, Tom, and daughter, Lucy, Steve leaves behind his brother, Laurence and his father Richard. Also, much-loved close friends and colleagues, and millions of devoted radio listeners who had the good fortune and great pleasure of allowing Steve into their daily lives as one of the UK’s most enduring and popular radio personalities. As we all grieve, the family requests privacy at this immensely difficult time.”
BBC Director General Tim Davie led the tributes, calling Wright “the ultimate professional – passionate about the craft of radio and deeply in touch with his listeners.

Charles Osgood, the witty CBS News journalist who shepherded “CBS Sunday Morning” for more than two decades — a longer tenure than the show’s original host, Charles Kuralt — died Tuesday at 91 years of age after living for a period of time with dementia, according to CBS News.
He also hosted a durable radio-news segment, “The Osgood File,” between 1971 and 2017. The audio vignettes were heard four times each weekday morning on various stations across the U.S., and Osgood would sometimes analyze a news event, and, in other moments, provide rhyming commentary on the latest headlines. He would sometimes bid listeners farewell by telling them: “I’ll see you on the radio.”
“Short words, short sentences, short paragraphs,” Osgood was known to say. “There’s nothing that can’t be improved by making it shorter and better.”

Welcome to Oscar Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Oscar race — via Slack, of course. This week, we discuss Best Actor — now with campaigning!
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! It’s Friday and already it feels like the actors’ strike is a distant memory. Concluded this week, it took all of a few minutes for the publicity machine to get up and running, pushing our favorite awards season contenders officially into campaign mode. In few categories is that more welcome — and was it more quickly felt — than Best Actor. Leonardo DiCaprio is expected to attend an academy screening on Sunday for “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Joaquin Phoenix will be at the premiere of “Napoleon” next week. Bradley Cooper has an interview scheduled with “CBS News Sunday Morning” — although the official press release calls him merely the “Maestro” writer and director.

Sharon Stone famously laughed during a 2018 “CBS Sunday Morning” interview when asked if she ever faced sexual harassment or assault in Hollywood. “I been in this business for 40 years,” the Oscar nominee told the reporter at the time. “Can you imagine the business I stepped into 40 years ago, looking like I look? I’ve seen it all.”
In a new appearance on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast, Stone disclosed for the first time one of her experiences combating sexual harassment in the industry. Supermodel Gisele Bundchen revealed that she wanted to kill herself at the peak of her modelling career by jumping from the ninth storey of her apartment block. She also battled panic attacks at the time due to her hectic work schedule, reports aceshowbiz.com.
“You know, I was in tunnels. I couldn’t breathe. And then I started being in studios, and I felt, like, suffocated,” she told journalist Lee Cowan, 58, in an upcoming episode of ‘CBS News Sunday Morning’, which will air on 24 September.
She said her suicidal thought came when she was living on the ninth floor of a building while working as a model and was having to take the stairs out of fear she’d get stuck in the elevator.
Bundchen added: “I’d be hyperventilating… you know when you can’t breathe even when the windows are open, you feel like, I don’t want to live like this,...

After a successful post-pandemic return in 2022, San Diego Comic-Con will hold a much quieter event for 2023, which runs from July 20-23. In June, with possibility of SAG-AFTRA joining the WGA on the picket lines — as well as the success of other focused fan events (like Star Wars Celebration and Tudum) — several major players decided to sit out this year’s convention before the schedule had even been announced, including Marvel, Lucasfilm, HBO, Universal, Sony and Netflix. By the time Sdcc announced the schedule in early July, Warner Bros. had also elected to be absent this year, despite upcoming DC projects like “Blue Beetle” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”
Some studios and productions, however, did announce major panels in the hope that SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP would strike a deal in time for the convention — which didn’t happen. SAG-AFTRA is now on strike, less than a week before Sdcc is set to begin,...

“I had my time, and that’s good,” Hamill responded. “But that’s enough.”
Smith pressed further, asking, “So, even though you say you won’t go back, there’s always a chance that you could go back?”
“Well, you never say never,” Hamill admitted. “I just don’t see any reason to. Let me put it that way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don’t need Luke anymore.”

Micheal J. Fox opened up this week about his shifting perspectives on mortality as he continues his battle with Parkinson’s disease.
“My life is set up so… I can pack Parkinson’s along with me if I have to,” Fox says in a preview of his “CBS Sunday Morning” interview, airing this weekend.
In the clip, Fox explains that the disease has made him recentre his approach to life. “You don’t die from Parkinson’s. You die with Parkinson’s,” he says, explaining that the disease is one that makes someone more liable to other life-threatening injuries, like falling, choking, or getting sick with a cold.
“I’ve been thinking about the mortality of it,” he adds. “I’m not gonna be 80.”

Chevy Chase has spent most of his showbiz career trying to end his career.
The tall, seemingly affable comedic actor was the first breakout star of NBC's "Saturday Night Live," and left before the conclusion of the series' second season to pursue movie stardom. He met with instant success in "Foul Play," "Caddyshack" and "Seems Like Old Times," and, despite the occasional flop, proved to be a relatively reliable star throughout the 1980s. But the star struggled with substance abuse issues and often rubbed his collaborators the wrong way. When he returned to host "SNL" in 1978, his smug demeanor provoked a physical altercation backstage with Bill Murray. While hosting "SNL" during the 1985-86 season, he wondered aloud to Robert Downey Jr. why his father's directing career "went to hell." John Carpenter had a miserable experience directing Chase in 1992's "Memoirs of an Invisible Man," which, like most of the star's output during that decade,...

Wynonna and her late mother, Naomi Judd, delivered their first TV performance in two decades at last year’s CMTs. The performance turned out to be the duo’s final one together; Naomi died by suicide weeks later.
“I’m going to use my time to talk to anyone out there who is struggling,” Wynonna told Et’s Cassie Dilaura of her appearance at Sunday’s awards. “It’s an opportunity to help somebody.”
“It’s a bittersweet time,” Wynonna continued, adding that her granddaughter will turn one later this month.

It’s been five years since Neil Diamond was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and only now is he coming to terms with it.
Parkinson’s is a “progressive disorder that affects the nervous system and the parts of the body controlled by the nerves,” according to the Mayo Clinic, and the 82-year-old singer admits he was in denial for several years about having the disease.
“I’m still doing it. And I don’t like it,” Diamond tells Anthony Mason on “CBS Sunday Morning”. “But … this is me; this is what I have to accept. And I’m willing to do it. And, Ok, so this is the hand that God’s given me, and I have to make the best of it, and so I am. I am.”

Coming to terms with his 2018 diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease has been an enormous challenge for Neil Diamond. In an interview with Anthony Mason for the April 2 episode of CBS Sunday Morning, Diamond admits that he only recently accepted the hard reality about his health.

“But somehow, a calm has moved in, and the hurricane of my life, and things have gotten very quiet, as quiet as this recording studio,” he continued. “And, I like it. I find that I like myself better. I’m easier on people.

One of the most consequential events in the recent history of the U.S. is set to be dissected on Thursday night during TV’s primetime schedule. Journalists slated to cover it will have to hope America sees the broadcast as something other than entertainment.
On Thursday night, most major broadcast networks and cable-news outlets are slated to shake up their evening programming grid to show what is expected to be a shocking report from the U.S. House Select Committee, which has spent months investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, and what may be coordinated efforts behind it. Politicians are known to get into the weeds of their findings to try to make political points by attacking the other side, and to focus overmuch on the wonky inner workings of U.S. bureaucracy than on bigger themes. Thursday’s presentation, which may point to U.S.

A trio of powerhouse actors inhabit the lives of three powerhouse political women on Showtime’s “The First Lady.” Emmy winner Gillian Anderson plays Eleanor Roosevelt; Oscar, Emmy and Tony winner Viola Davis plays Michelle Obama; and Golden Globe winner Michelle Pfeiffer plays Betty Ford. Pfeiffer is the only one of the three main stars to not have an Emmy, though she did earn a nomination for 2017’s “The Wizard of Lies.” However, that could change once Emmy voters get a look at Pfeiffer giving a career-best performance.
Pfeiffer arguably has the most difficult job in the series as Ford might be considered the least well-known of the three first ladies. After all, Michelle Obama’s tenure in the White House only ended in the past decade and she continues to maintain a high public profile. Meanwhile, Eleanor Roosevelt, the nation’s longest serving first lady, is still revered as...

Jon Batiste isn't just the most-awarded Grammy winner this year - he's also a newlywed. In a "CBS Sunday Morning" interview that aired April 3, the "Freedom" singer revealed he secretly married his longtime girlfriend, bestselling author Suleika Jaouad, in February. After eight years together, the couple tied the knot in a private ceremony the night before Jaouad received a bone marrow transplant as part of treatment for her second leukemia diagnosis.
"The darkness will try to overtake you, but just turn on the light."
"We have known that we wanted to get married, I think, from the first week that we started dating," Jaouad said during the interview, adding Batiste had been planning a formal proposal for months, regardless of her health. "He said to me, 'I just want to be very clear, I'm not proposing to you because of this diagnosis. It's taken me a year to design your ring.

Christian Nodal and Olga Tanon, two popular Latino musicians, no doubt thought they were reaching core fans when they agreed to give interviews yesterday to Univision’s recently launched Sunday broadcast of “Despierta America.” But they were also helping the Spanish-language network make inroads in a weekend-morning news war that has grown increasingly competitive.
The weekday edition of “Despierta America” is a staple of Spanish-language TV in the U.S. and has been on the air for a quarter century, taking up four hours every morning. But on Sundays, as NBC and ABC have worked to expand their flagship morning shows, Univision had been content to air direct-response commercials and reruns. The company’s new management decided to change the weekend attitude.
“I’m a big fan of ‘Today’ and ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ and ‘Good Morning America,’ but we do a show for our people, and we know their needs.

Ray Brady, a longtime CBS News correspondent who focused on business and the economy, died Jan. 12 at his home in Manhattan. He was 94.
Brady spent 28 years with CBS News, starting in 1972 when he joined CBS Radio. He retired in 2000 after 23 years as a correspondent for “CBS Evening News.”
Brady was well-regarded among his colleagues for his knowledge of business and understanding of how markets move. He was also remembered as a consistently natty dresser. At the time of Brady’s retirement, then CBS News president Andrew Heyward hailed “his powerful sense of integrity, his genuine interest in the people he met along the way, and his unflagging passion for the next story.”
In the 1990s, Brady hosted the regular “Evening News” segment “The Money Crunch,” which sought to help viewers find ways to stretch their dollars. He also hosted the “Eye on America” segments highlighting the lives of everyday Americans.

Recently, the comic essayist David Sedaris found himself in the midst of a short-lived cycle of criticism for a piece he delivered on CBS’s “Sunday Morning,” which was inelegantly premised on the idea that Sedaris wanted for himself the right to fire service industry employees at will. That this was plainly unworkable became the piece’s punchline, but the moment for this remained poorly chosen. It was easy to be annoyed with Sedaris for two minutes of blitheness, but, flipping through Sedaris’s new omnibus collection of his work over the holidays, this sense — for this reader, at least — faded. What a writer says, even in public, even on camera, lingers less than the work.

“The other thing people have been doing has been cleaning out their closets. So that’s a bit what [McCartney III] was,” McCartney said. “I just started cleaning out my cupboards. Like, ‘What about that song last year that I started but never got to finish.

As political commentator Max Kennerly put it, “For looking that good with nothing more than a friggin’ ancient Flowbee, God–and I cannot stress this enough–damn him.”
Clooney made the confession during an interview with Tracy Smith on CBS’ “Sunday Morning,” when the conversation turned to the actor’s impeccable hair despite not being able to get a haircut for months due to the pandemic. He revealed that he’s been cutting his hair himself for about 25 years, and that he’s done so with the help of a Flowbee, a vacuum attachment created in the ’80s designed for DIY haircuts.
