For the first season, the on-screen title was "The Flockton Flyer". When the series returned for the second season, the title had become "Flockton Flyer" after railway enthusiasts pointed out that it was convention to omit "The" from the beginning of locomotive names.
In real life, the "Flockton Flyer" steam locomotive used in this series was the un-named GWR locomotive number 6412 which the West Somerset Railway had recently restored. The fees that Southern Television paid to the WSR for using the loco and for filming on the railway played a significant part in safeguarding the line's future.
Sheila Fearn (Kathy Carter) was not in Series 2 because of prior commitments with filming George & Mildred (1976). Kathy's absence was explained by saying that she was studying at Ontario University in Canada.
Real-life husband and wife Anthony Sharp and Margaret Wedlake played husband and wife in the series.
An additional episode was planned for Season 2. This would have been centred around the character of Commander "Jack" Frost and would have been set in Watchet Docks in Somerset. Shooting schedules and call sheets were produced but the episode was never filmed, possibly because of the over-ambitious air-sea rescue scenes that were planned for it.
