As often, rather coincidence has you watch some very special films. This film is more or less one of those, too. It's kind of a documentary film about a group of german hillclimbers which strive to climb up the Nanga Parbat, one of the highest mountains in the world, in Pakistan. Watching this film, we were constantly guessing the age of it until we looked it up in the IMDB ;-). You could bet that one of us was supposing this film to date from the 40ies. Why is that? You can well feel and of course hear the relics of germany's not so far past. Okay, the main "actors" don't look like short-hair upright obediant-silly Nazis, but there's enough in this film to feel amused without greater interceptions... If you hear terms like "sahib" or "sherpa porters" who really are the only that carry the luggage :-)), there's an colonnialistic atmosphere in it. But I do not want to only come down on this film. It really has great pictures, some attempts to be thrilling and you begin to feel historically interested while watching it. So when this film passes by in TV, go and give it a chance but better don't do it alone or have a pizza while watching it or both...
