Heading into Cannes, where it has four films in official selection and three projects participating in the Great 8 showcase, BBC Film has unveiled further details about its upcoming slate.
Among new projects in advanced development is Remi Weekes’ follow-up to His House, which is being produced by Tanya Segatchian and John Woodward’s Bright Star. Details for the untitled feature are being kept under wraps but BBC Film director Eva Yates told Screen: “It’s not a horror.”
Also in advanced development is Raine Allen-Miller’s second feature after Rye Lane, a south London-set heist comedy that she has also written.

Restored in 4K for its 20th anniversary last year, Bernardo Bertolucci’s penultimate feature The Dreamers is now arriving on a new 4K Uhd disc this summer. Marking Eva Green’s first film role, the romantic drama set during the 1968 Paris student riots also stars Michael Pitt and Louis Garrel. While a U.S. release has not been unveiled yet, the region-free 4K Uhd set featuring the restoration completed by Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna under the supervision of director of photography, Fabio Cianchetti, will debut in the UK on May 13.
Here’s the synopsis:
The Dreamers is set in Paris, Spring of 1968: the city is beginning to emerge from hibernation and an obscure spirit of social and political renewal is in the air. Yet Théo, his twin sister Isabelle and Matthew, an American student they have befriended, think only of immersing themselves in another, addictive form of hibernation: moviegoing at the Cinémathèque Française.

After a rather tame show last month, the freewheeling Golden Globes are kind of back. Only now they go by the name the 30th annual SAG Awards, which had a whole lot of the Globes and the Emmys in their bloodstream Saturday.
Finally on Netflix proper after being relegated to the streamer’s YouTube channel last year, the 2024 SAG Awards is yet another shiv in the side of broadcast TV by Team Sarandos as the first awards show to stream live on the global streamer.
In fact, that is likely why everyone from SAG-AFTRA boss Fran Drescher, de facto host Idris Elba, Beef star and now SAG Awards winner Ali Wong and more thanked the streamer and the co-ceo — cause that’s why they call it show business not show friends. A major player, if not the major player, in last year’s contract negotiations with the striking actors guild,...

This is not a drill, BTS fans! The group's youngest member, Jungkook, has officially launched his solo era. While the maknae has released numerous singles as gifts to fans through the years and collaborations like "Left and Right" with Charlie Puth and his World Cup anthem, "Dreamers," with Fahad Al Kubaisi, the July 14 release of "Seven" marks the start of his career as a bonafide solo artist.
Fans have been waiting for this single since July 6, when Big Hit Music started rolling out Jungkook's promotional content for "Seven," including a short film and concept photos featuring the star showing off his physique in various outfits (one - loose-fitting jeans paired with an oversized blazer - even gives a peek at his abs). On July 7, it was also revealed that Jungkook's first performance of "Seven" is already planned.

In May, Paramount+ is will be the streaming home for a host of new titles, including the well-timed documentary “King Charles: The Boy Who Walked Alone.” Utilizing original footage and interviews with staffers and friends, this CBS News film provides an insider’s look at England’s newest ruler. Bullied by his father and the child of an unemotional mother, Charles grew up isolated from his parents, the product of, in the words of one friend, “a spectacularly dysfunctional family.” A behind-the-scenes look at his marriage to Princess Diana and his future as the British sovereign are explored on May 2, just days before his official coronation.

‘Dreamers,’ About Undocumented Immigrants in Chicago, Picked Up by Sales Agency Lightdox (Exclusive)
Documentary “Dreamers” has been acquired by Swiss sales agency Lightdox. The film has its international premiere on April 23 at the 54th Visions du Réel film festival in Nyon, Switzerland, where it competes in the Burning Lights section.
The film centers on Carlos, who arrived in Chicago from Mexico in 1993, at the age of 9, with his parents and three brothers. For 30 years, he has never been able to leave the city where he went to school and now works, coaches a soccer team, and pays his taxes, because he is still undocumented. He leads a discreet life, trying never to make a mistake, out of fear of being deported.
“Even though I think of myself as an American, and consider America my country, I could get deported anytime because my country doesn’t think of me as one of its own,” he says in the film.

If only it was acceptable in life to publicly boo everything we didn’t like — it would definitely make going to the movies more fun, and a lot louder.
Fortunately, the Lythgoe Family Panto is keeping the U.K.’s most raucous holiday season tradition alive with “A Snow White Christmas,” which opens Friday for a limited engagement until Dec. 22 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California.
“The best thing about panto is that it’s an interactive experience for everybody — the kids can come and they don’t have to be quiet in their seats,” Disney Channel star Olivia Sanabia, who plays the title role of Snow White, explains. “They can boo the bad guys, cheer for the good ones, and really express themselves. They feel like they’re part of the story and the experience. I love that instant gratification of knowing what the audience thinks.”

Warner Bros. debuted the trailer for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s movie “In the Heights” on Thursday, and the sneak peek makes good on its “emotional roller-coaster” promise, a somewhat meta line delivered by one of the Broadway adaptation’s actors.
“Hamilton” star Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Barrera, Marc Anthony, Dascha Polanco, Stephanie Beatriz and Leslie Grace are atop the cast of the film version.
“In the Heights,” which won the Tony for Best Musical and Best Original Score in 2008, follows a bodega owner in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood who has mixed feelings about closing his store and retiring to the Dominican Republic after inheriting his grandmother’s fortune.

The 73rd Annual Tony Awards has wrapped up as one of the best editions of the annual Broadway celebration in recent memory. Take a look below at the many things that worked and the few things that didn’t during this year’s telecast (and check out the list of this year’s winners here).
SEE2019 Tony Awards: Best Musical ‘Hadestown’ sweeps with 8 wins, ‘The Ferryman’ takes Best Play [Updating Live]
The Good
In recent years I’ve felt like James Corden has been overused, so I wasn’t really looking forward to his return as host. But Corden rose to the occasion with his magnificent opening number. He highlighted the uniqueness of live theater while also taking some jabs at some of the unpleasantness of the modern theatrical experience. The parts about ticket prices and extremely uncomfortable seats were particularly resonant for me.
The rest of Corden’s performance as host was also good.

Updated With a statement from Verizon
Verizon Fios has decided to drop Fuse, the multicultural network partially owned by Jennifer Lopez.
Fuse will disappear from Verizon’s Fios service at the end of the day, representing the second such loss of carriage in a week. Cable giant Comcast reached a similar decision yesterday.
The media company put the blame solidly on Verizon, claiming it said offered terms that the telecommunications giant knew were unacceptable to Fuse.
“This is another instance of one of our nation’s largest telecommunications companies taking action inconsistent with its public posture regarding diversity,” Fuse said in a statement. “While claiming to be committed to supporting customers from underserved communities, Verizon Fios is removing unique content programmed to the passions and values of the large and growing multicultural millennial audience.”
Verizon issued a statement saying that its priority is to subscribers with content at a fair price.

Comcast has decided to drop Fuse, which focuses on multicultural programming. The news was announced today by Michael Schwimmer, President and CEO of Fuse Media.
“Despite Comcast’s publicly-stated commitment to support diverse and independently operated networks, Comcast has elected to drop Fuse, a multicultural-focused television network, on December 31, after more than a decade of carriage,” Schwimmer said in a statement to Deadline. “This decision is both surprising and troubling considering that Fuse met Comcast’s financial demands, and no other requirements were ever communicated to us. A commitment to diversity is an enduring value, not a politically expedient card for Comcast to play until such time as consent decrees or business objectives no longer require it. Comcast’s behavior leading to its decision to drop Fuse reveals an agenda inconsistent with their public statements, giving further credence to the merit of on-going Doj oversight.”

The debate comes as polls show Cruz holding a healthy lead over his challenger — one that’s increased since the pair’s first debate in September. This morning Christina Aguilera announced the forthcoming release of her sixth studio album “Liberation,” her first in five years, which will be out on June 15 on RCA Records. She also dropped the first single from the album, “Accelerate,” which features Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz, along with a music video directed by Zoey Grossman.
The song was produced by Kanye West, Che Pope and Mike Dean, a rep for the singer confirmed to Variety, although the production credits are not mentioned in the official announcement (possibly due to West’s recent comments). West also produced a song on the album called “Maria”; Anderson.Paak produced two others. A duet with Demi Lovato called “Fall in Line” was co-written by Julia Michaels.

Among the humanitarian and political crises currently facing the United States, the emotional trauma and anxiety inflicted upon Daca — Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival — recipients as their immigration status hangs in the balance has emerged as one of the most heart-wrenching.
Last year, Variety’s 2018 Power of Law honoree Doug Davis, who describes himself as “a big old liberal,” sought to raise support for these aspiring citizens, something that stretches beyond just the scope of “writing a check.”
“My mother definitely instilled in me the political activism and a lot of the liberal causes,” says Davis. “As an entertainment attorney, I have access to creatives and distribution, and I had been trying to figure out over the years how I could use music as a vessel for a cause.”

Host: Chadwick Boseman
First of all: Boseman’s choice of ensemble for the monologue? Good God, the man knows how to dress. He also knows how to deliver a few solid jokes and dance, and it was good to see the writers take advantage of both elements.
It was also the closest that “SNL” got to taking advantage of Boseman’s status as America’s Preeminent Black Biopic Star, referencing his past work portraying not just the King of Wakanda, but historical figures like Jackie Robinson and James Brown. The episode in general was interesting in how it chose largely to use Boseman as a utility player rather than lean into his specific characteristics for sketches, which can usually go one of two ways: Create unique opportunities for weird-ass moments, or lead to a lot of straight-down-the-middle safe bets.

Oscars 2018"We grew up dreaming of one day working in the movies. Dreams are the foundation of Hollywood, and dreams are the foundation of America," Lupita said.IANSScreenshot/YouTubeExtending support to the 'Dreamers' in the Us, Pakistan-origin comedian Kumail Nanjiani and actress Lupita Nyong'o from Kenya took a dig at their own immigrant status during the 90th Academy Awards here. "We are the two actors who you keep hearing about but whose names you have trouble pronouncing," Nyong'o quipped before presenting the Best Production Design Oscar on Sunday night. Nanjiani followed up with a joke, saying, "Actually, I have to complain... Kumail Nanjiani is my stage name. My actual given Pakistani name is Chris Pine. So you can imagine how annoyed I was when the other, the white one showed up... The real Chris Pine." Nyong'o, whose latest release Black Panther is doing well at the box office, then added, "We are also immigrants. I am from Kenya." Nanjiani said, "And I am from Pakistan and Iowa, two places that nobody from Hollywood can find on the map." "Like everyone in this room, and everyone watching at home, we are dreamers. We grew up dreaming of one day working in the movies. Dreams are the foundation of Hollywood, and dreams are the foundation of America," said Nyong'o, who won the Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years A Slave in 2014. "And so, to all the dreamers out there, we stand with you," added Nanjiani of The Big Sick fame. Their comments come amid an ongoing immigration debate in the Us over a programme that protects hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation. President Donald Trump announced an end to the programme in September last year but gave Congress six months to find a legislative alternative. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals programme or Daca, established by former President Barack Obama in 2012, was an immigration policy that allowed some individuals who entered the Us as minors, mostly illegally, to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and to be eligible for a work permit.
