little known gem
jenso-ac3 April 2006
Hugo Wallner is married and he has one daughter, he works at the revenue office and earns a meager salary. His house is about to be force-sold and he learns that he will die within three months of lung cancer. And then one day he has a most mysterious visitor who calls himself Mr. Mosbacher. He offers to give him lots of money and a company of his own, he'll never have to worry about the future of his little family any more. All he has to do in return is - to hold his tongue and to die in time. Of course this Mr. Mosbacher is not as charitable as he pretends to be, and lots of unpredictable things are about to happen ...

"Sterben ist gesünder" - to die is healthier - is a thriller, but not a simple one. It is packed with weird humor (even though it is a German production), with tension and even with some action (also weird). They showed it on TV last night and I sat through it although it ended past two a.m. And I didn't regret one single minute of it. It was hilarious and sad, it was funny and exciting all at the same time.

And don't expect a Hollywood-style happy end, because there is none, or there is - sort of; you'll just have to see it yourself. And you'll love it. Sadly enough this little gem of a movie is very unlikely to be seen outside of Germany.
