This got the Israeli film industry off to a good start
Scanned afresh in 2012 from a 1967 reconstruction of the original, ODED HANODED is a silent movie of interest primarily for its historical value. It is proudly (and only a bit controversially) dated as the first plotted full-length movie filmed in Israel. The print I saw includes titles in Hebrew and French but the simple plot-- a boy wanders off and the community searches for him-- would be comprehensible even without the titles. The historical flavor extends only briefly to the settings, because aside from beginning and ending in a pioneer farming community, the film takes place mostly outdoors in the rocky hills. It's an old, low-budget, but by no means amateurish production featuring many children who acquit themselves well before the camera.
