Sony has dated a new film in its Insidious horror franchise from Blumhouse Productions for release on August 29, 2025, the studio revealed Thursday evening.
No further details about the project were disclosed, but this is not the Jeremy Slater-helmed Thread: An Insidious Tale, a spin-off starring Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani, on which we were first to report.
Marking the sixth entry in the franchise, this new Insidious film comes on the heels of Insidious: The Red Door, an entry marking franchise star Patrick Wilson’s feature directorial debut, which grossed over $189 million at the worldwide box office.
Launching in 2010, the Insidious franchise from James Wan and Leigh Whannell delves into the theme of hauntings, primarily focusing on the existence of a malevolent realm known as “The Further.” This otherworldly dimension is inhabited by vengeful spirits and demons that seek to infiltrate the world of the living, often resulting in...

Sony Pictures announced today that the next sequel in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise is set for a theatrical release on July 18, 2025.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) has been tapped to direct the sequel from a screenplay she co-wrote with Sam Lansky following the initial script by Leah McKendrick. It’s been said that original cast members Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. have been in talks to reprise their roles, but nothing has been officially confirmed yet. Hewitt said earlier this year that she’d be down to return for the sequel but hasn’t seen a script yet.
Loosely based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan, the first I Know What You Did Last Summer movie was scripted by Scream writer Kevin Williamson and directed by Jim Gillespie. It revolved around four young friends who are stalked by a hook-wielding killer one year...

Jennifer Love Hewitt is the person to thank for the 9-1-1 and The Bachelor crossover on ABC.
The I Know What You Did Last Summer star is a fan of the dating reality series, and when the first-responder series got picked up by ABC after being canceled by Fox, she pitched a crossover to Tim Menear, the show’s co-creator and showrunner.
“The whole crossover episode came about because Jennifer Love Hewitt called me after she went to one of the finales of The Bachelor,” Minear told Entertainment Weekly in an interview. “She’s a huge fan of The Bachelor and she said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if the 118 responded to a call at the Bachelor mansion?'”
Minear said the people at The Bachelor “were unbelievably supportive and helpful” in making the crossover happen.

Jennifer Yale (See) is set as co-showrunner for the Untitled James Wan/Simu Liu project at Peacock. The original espionage techno-thriller was one of three Peacock dramas given straight-to-series orders, announced at the recent TCA winter press tour.
Yale wil co-showrun and executive produce with creator/writer/EP Thomas Brandon (Legacies).
The Untitled James Wan/Simu Liu project, which stars Liu, is set five minutes in the future when first-generation American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale (Liu) realizes his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears. Caught between his shadowy agency and the unknown hackers, he must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who’s responsible and prove where his allegiance lies.
Liu also executive produces alongside Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster. Danielle Bozzone will oversee for Atomic Monster.

Technology giveth and taketh away. We can watch most movies with the click of a button from our couch but no longer have the joy of going out to the video rental store. We can also buy and digitally “own” any movie at a moment’s notice, but more and more, physical copies of movies aren’t even being made.
The movie theater has stayed the course, however. Through Covid-19 shutdowns, insane movie budgets followed by box office disasters, the rise of quality TV shows like Game of Thrones, streaming, The Flash… theaters have survived, thank God. That being said, each year, more movies conveniently grace us with their presence at home and only at home.
It’s not always a bad thing for films to skip movie theaters entirely. But I’d be lying if I said it wouldn’t have been nice to have the option to see...

We can all picture Jennifer Love Hewitt in her big screen breakout role, screaming, “What are you waiting for?!” And that’s not too far off from what she thinks about reprising some of her most memorable characters: Julie James in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Melinda Gordon in Ghost Whisperer.
Appearing on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum (via Screen Rant), Jennifer Love Hewitt showed an interest in returning to her most beloved characters if the opportunities ever came up. On Julie James — the protagonist of the first two I Know What You Did Last Summer movies who helped Jlh give Neve Campbell a run for her money in the late ‘90s as the reigning scream queen — she said she would “one hundred percent” be on board. “Yeah. I loved making those movies.” Now here’s hoping she and Freddie Prinze Jr. can return for a fourth installment.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. are not often photographed together, but they were seen out to dinner on Monday (November 20) at Baltaire Restaurant & Steakhouse in Los Angeles.
The 46-year-old Buffy The Vampire Slayer actress and the 47-year-old She’s All That actor were with a larger group as they waited for their car at the valet.
Freddie and Sarah Michelle were photographed at an event together last month, but they really don’t often pose at events together all too often.

Nell Verlaque stars in TriStar Pictures and Spyglass Media Group’s ‘Thanksgiving’
Way back in 2007, when Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez teamed up for the epic shlockfest Grindhouse, they got some of their pals to produce fake, genre-perfect trailers to go along with their two features. A couple of these, Machete and Hobo with a Shotgun, have actually been made into real movies since, but the one that fans have been clamoring to be produced is Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving. Finally, more than 15 years later, Roth has given the people what they want. Thanksgiving is here.
Set in the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Thanksgiving opens up with a riot at a Right-Mart Black Friday sale that, as all good Black Friday sales do, begins at 6:00pm on Thanksgiving Day. Lives are lost and lawsuits are settled, and one year later, everything is back to normal.

When people think of Jim Gillespie’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, they usually consider it a solid slasher. It certainly had an engaging lead cast—Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe—and a script from Scream creator himself, Kevin Williamson. It even spawned an Amazon Prime spinoff series and is being featured as part of a “High School Horror” category on the Criterion Channel.
But that’s not the film this article is about. This is about the 1998 sequel that has a less positive reputation: Danny Cannon’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which brought back Hewitt and Prinze Jr., but not Gillespie and Williamson. A lot of people tend to think of it as a lesser follow-up that is best left forgotten.

Slasher movies have been around for decades, and they excel because you have a group of people stalked by a killer, only to have the story end within 90 minutes.
Slashers on TV take things in a different direction, with the story being told over a longer arc.
That doesn't always work, but some slashers have delivered on their promise.
Because we're TV Fanatics, we've rounded up some of the best slashers to hit the small screen.
Check them out below.

Slasher has had many homes during its time on the small screen.

It lived up to that promise.
However, we'd be remiss if we didn't recommend the original season and Guilty Party.

A couple months ago, we heard that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of the slasher sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer by giving the film a 4K release, just like they did for its predecessor I Know What You Did Last Summer last year. Now we’ve learned that the unpopular trilogy capper I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) will also be getting a new release on the same day I Still Know reaches 4K (September 26th) – but this will be a Blu-ray release instead of 4K.
Directed by Sylvain White (who replaced Damon Santostefano two weeks before filming began) from a screenplay written by Michael D. Weiss, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer is about a group of small town teens who accidentally kill a fellow friend in a 4th of July prank.

Writer/director Kevin S. Tenney’s 1986 horror classic Witchboard (watch it Here) is getting the remake treatment couresty of director Chuck Russell, who was bringing us the likes of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and the remake of The Blob back in the days when Witchboard was gathering its earliest fans. According to Deadline, Russell intends to go beyond the original Witchboard IP “with a deeper storyline, high intensity scares and imaginative visuals”. As such, the screenplay he has written with Greg McKay sounds quite different from the original film. This month’s installment of Deep Cuts Rising features a variety of horror movies. Some selections reflect a specific day or event in July, and others were chosen at random.
Regardless of how they came to be here, or what they’re about, these past movies can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.
This month’s offerings feature a giant monster bug, home invaders, a zombie boy, a killer videographer, and a water spirit.
Blue Monkey (1987)
Directed by William Fruet.
As its name suggests, Pandemonium Day (July 14) is all about bedlam. And William Fruet’s Canadian tax-shelter movie Blue Monkey (a.k.a. Insect!) is as chaotic as they come. Originally called “Green Monkey” at one point, this movie’s final title is still a misnomer; there are no monkeys here. Instead, the characters battle a deadly parasite inside a quarantined hospital.

Vampires are taking a wacky bite out of summer. In Season 5 of FX and Hulu’s “What We Do In The Shadows,” Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) looks for a vampire who can give him the transformation that Nandor the Relentless has kept from him. But it may not go as planned. The beloved comedy, which takes a mockumentary look at four vampires living in Staten Island, returns on July 14.
Check out the Season 5 trailer of “What We Do In the Shadows”:

Sarah Michelle Gellar has admitted that fear of “victim blaming and shaming” has kept her from speaking about her negative experiences of being a “young girl” in showbusiness.
The Cruel Intentions star made her on-screen debut aged six and was 19 years old when she was cast in the career-defining role of Buffy Summers, a high school student with supernatural powers, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
In a new interview with The New York Times, Gellar denied that her experience as a young woman in the industry had been positive.
“It was really hard,” the actor said. “There weren’t great female roles when I came up. It was the girlfriend role, the wife role.
“That’s why Buffy was so spectacular, because she really had something to do, and then we had I Know What You Did [Last Summer] where it was the women figuring things out. That was all a new turn of events.

In 2001, Howard Stern told Freddie Prinze Jr. that his marriage to Sarah Michelle Gellar would not last 10 years.
Now two decades later, Gellar is holding Stern to word, saying that he owes the two of them big money. On Stern’s show, he told Prinze Jr. “So you will marry Sarah Michelle Gellar even though it won’t last.”
Prinze Jr. responded, “Absolutely it will last.”
Stern didn’t believe him, so he made a written bet with Prinze Jr.
“In about 10 years’ time, you can hunt me down and go. ‘Howard, I owe you money.'”
Prinze Jr. agreed and they settled on a 1 million bet.
Gellar has now posted the screenshots of the written exchange, and now Stern has been proven wrong so it’s double the money since the couple just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.
Prinze Jr. gladly shared his wife’s post and added, “She...

Premiering as part of the Midnight Madness slate at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Sick brings Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer writer Kevin Williamson back into the slasher arena. John Hyams (Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, “Black Summer”) directed Sick from a story by Williamson, and it’s being described as a “lean, mean, and wickedly timely slasher.” How timely? Sick is set during the pandemic.
Collider has shared the very first clip from the Williamson-penned Sick today, and it’s a tense little scene that we can’t help but compare to Scream. The ring of a doorbell begins a home invasion from a masked killer, who has already found his way inside the house…
Watch Collider’s exclusive clip below and expect more soon.
