The film was shown at the Cannes Festival in April 1951. It apparently had some screenings as first part program to "La Rose Rouge" (directed by Marcel Pagliero), as early as Febr.7, 1951. The film seems to have been shown in France in 1953, and is mentioned in an article by André Bazin in Les Cahiers du Cinéma (no.25 of July 1953): "Together with Crin Blanc, Bim may be the only true children movie ever produced".
