When The Suicide Squad hit theaters on August 5, fans noticed something was off, and for once, it wasn’t Harley Quinn’s chaotic behavior. Margot Robbie’s Harley showed up without her infamous “Rotten” tattoo scrawled across her jawline. And no, it wasn’t a makeup mishap. It was a choice—a loud and clear one.
Director James Gunn and Robbie both agreed: the ink had to go. While answering fan questions on Instagram, Gunn spilled the tea (via Screenrant), saying, “Margot didn’t like it and found out I also didn’t like it, so we just decided to remove it. No, it’s not addressed.” Clean and simple. And honestly, long overdue.
Harley’s tattoos had always screamed “Joker’s girl” – from “Property of Joker” on her shoulder to “Puddin” tributes inked all over. That “Rotten” jaw tat?...

The Matrix Iconic Green Digital Rain Visual (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
The 1999 sci-fi action film, ‘The Matrix’, is still regarded as one of the best and most visually stunning movies of all time. If you remember, the film featured a cascading green code that rained down the screen.
Source of The Matrix’s Digital Rain
That code has a surprising, rather weird, origin story behind it. It’s not anything remotely related to a cryptic computer program, encrypted data, alien language, or some text with a deeper philosophical meaning. In fact, they were not real codes at all. On the contrary, it was sushi, the Japanese dish. Can you believe it?
In an earlier interview with CNET, Simon Whitely, the production designer of The Matrix, said, “I like to tell everybody that The Matrix’s code is made out of Japanese sushi recipes.” The source of the digital rain was...

In the world of constantly developing and evolving technology and artificial intelligence, it seems like even Hollywood’s entertainment industry doesn’t seem to be exempt from inching closer and closer to becoming heavily invested in it. This comes amidst the latest reports about Russian Doll actress Natasha Lyonne’s upcoming directorial project.
While there is still a lot of skepticism around the use of AI in these entertainment pieces, the actress, writer, director, and producer all in one is reportedly not hesitating to take the leap and allow artificial intelligence to dominate greater parts of filmmaking. This is because her next directorial flick is reportedly set to be made with the heavy use of AI.

Poker Face star Natasha Lyonne is to direct and star in Uncanny Valley, a sci-fi film which uses generative AI for its virtual world.
Days before the return of hit murder mystery series Poker Face, its star, Natasha Lyonne, has announced a separate project. The actor and filmmaker plans to make a science fiction film that will – in part – be made using generative AI.
Called Uncanny Valley, it’s said to be about a teenager named Mila, who begins to play an augmented reality game that begins to have some sort of disturbing impact on the real world. The script was co-written by Lyonne and Brit Marling, best known for her work as an actor in such cult items as Another Earth and TV’s The Oa, and both will star in their movie in undisclosed roles.
The potentially sensitive bit is the way it’s going to be created:...

Subhash K Jha turns the focus once again on the Farah Khan directed Main Hoon Na, which released in 2004 and is now considered a cult classic. As a bonus, there is a throwback interview with the star Shah Rukh Khan that is not to be missed!
Hefty hints and wacky whispers harking back to the ‘golden’ era of masala cinema, carpet this perky piece of pop-art, buoyed and held aloft by the defiance of every law of gravity.
And how can you stay grave when Shah Rukh Khan as Ram Prasad Sharma (giggle!), in his most politically correct role ever( ahem!), goes back to college to protect his army- boss Kabir Bedi’s rebellious daughter Amrita Rao from harm? How can you stay serious as (chuckle!) From the Slums of Beverly Hills to the heart of Silicon Valley: actress, writer, and director Natasha Lyonne isn’t shying away from artificial intelligence, even as fellow creatives in Hollywood fret over what the tech means for their industry.

When you think of modern cinema, two names that come to mind almost immediately are Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan. These two directors shook up the film industry with their distinct styles. Tarantino is known for his sharp dialogue, gritty characters, and scenes that make you squirm in the best way possible.
Nolan, on the other hand, is famous for his mind-bending concepts and visually stunning films. Despite their differences, one thing is clear—they both have a deep love for cinema. And it turns out that Tarantino has some serious respect for Nolan and his work.
Christopher Nolan
Over the years, Tarantino has spoken highly of Nolan, praising his distinctive style and creative vision. In return, Nolan has also expressed admiration for Tarantino’s work. So, what exactly has Tarantino said about Nolan? Let’s explore their shared love for each other’s films!

When the first two sequels to the Wachowskis' "The Matrix," titled "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions," both released in theaters in 2003, it set a strange precedent for Hollywood blockbuster filmmaking. Certain 2000s-era hits, rather than getting a single expected sequel, were granted a gigantic, outsize, super-sequel finale that was released in two parts. In addition to "The Matrix," major studios also took a "mega-sequel finale" approach to "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Harry Potter," "Twilight," and "The Hunger Games." Indeed, "Mission: Impossible" has since done the same thing with "Dead Reckoning" and "The Final Reckoning." Heck, even Marvel Studios made an "Avengers" mega-sequel-finale with "Infinity War" and "Endgame."
"The Matrix," however, also proved that the mega-sequel approach doesn't always work well. While "Reloaded" and "Revolutions" were hugely ambitious and exciting hits, they were also overstuffed, clunky, and wrestled with too many ideas. The mythology also became far too complicated for its own good.

You are not a gadget — but you might be immersed in an artificial intelligence-generated film.
In one of the more unusual creative collaborations to come along in a while, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Jaron Lanier — the longtime technology innovator and sometime-skeptic — is teaming with Natasha Lyonne and Brit Marling for a new feature film that will be set in the world of immersive video games and make abundant use of AI.
Uncanny Valley, as the project is called, is backed by Asteria, the new AI-based studio founded by Lyonne and Los Angeles-based filmmaker and entrepreneur Bryn Mooser. Lyonne will direct from a script she wrote with Marling; both will star.
Centered on a teenage girl who becomes unmoored by a hugely popular Ar video game in a parallel present, the movie will blend traditional live-action and game elements. The latter will be created by Lanier as well as Lyonne and Marling.

Short of "Star Wars" and "Star Trek," you'd be hard-pressed to find a science fiction franchise of the modern era more influential than "The Matrix." Did the Wachowskis' 1999 magnum opus take major inspiration from prominent anime and cyberpunk stories? Yes, but it blended those with a distinct philosophical angle, strong style choices, and an approach to action that completely revolutionized the Hollywood blockbuster.
Though the films that followed were more controversial, don't believe the lie that "The Matrix" is the only part of the franchise worth watching. Each piece brings new ideas, memorable moments, and serves a key role in the larger ideological narrative of "The Matrix." They may be less straightforward than the original, but in some ways, that only makes them more intriguing.
Today, we're ranking all of the "Matrix" movies, including the 2003 animated anthology film "The Animatrix." Each is a success in its own right, but some stand taller than others.

A generation of kids grew up watching Raja Gosnell's 2002 live-action comedy flick "Scooby-Doo," an adaptation of Hanna-Barbera's long-running Scooby-Doo cartoon shows from the 1970s. In the film, Freddy, originally voiced by Frank Welker, was played by Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Shaggy, originally voiced by Casey Kasem, was played by Matthew Lillard. Prinze was squarely in the public eye after starring in hit films like "She's All That" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer," while Lillard was famous for his turns in "Hackers," "Scream," and "Slc Punk!" Lillard, incidentally, was also in "She's All That." Both actors were very much their generation's "It" boys, and the decade proved to be very lucrative for them both.
Well, "Wing Commander" notwithstanding.
"Wing Commander" is not well-remembered by too many people. It was based on a series of 1990s "Wing Commander" video games created by Chris Roberts, who also directed the film.

Sports movies come in all flavors. Take Luca Guadagnino's "Challengers," which draws a stylish, frenetic parallel between the athletes involved in its story's central love triangle and their passionate love for the game of tennis. Guadagnino understands how to enliven a drama that thrives on this complex dynamic, resulting in a sports movie that feels fresh and exciting. On the flip side, we have intensely dramatic sports movies like "The Iron Claw," which dramatizes the real-life tragedy of the Von Erich family while still thriving as a cinematic experience. Then there are stories that don't explore the nuances of a sport or delve too deeply into the drama but still make for a decent, enjoyable genre movie, albeit one that's easy to overlook. This brings us to Brian Robbins' "Hardball," a film about a morally grey protagonist who struggles to find salvation in coaching a baseball team full of rising talents.

With the release of The Darkest Place I’ve Ever Been , French nu-metalcore giants Landmvrks have firmly planted their flag as one of the most powerful creative forces in all of heavy music. The album blends elements of metal, hardcore, and hip-hop flows, while also telling a riveting, terrifying story. This is the genre at its peak. So of course, there has to be anime involved somewhere, right? I had the chance to speak with Landmvrks frontman Florent Salfati about pushing the limits of their sound, anime fandom in France, and the ways that anime has affixed itself into his creative mind. To start things off, it’s been about four years since your last album! It seems like your fanbase has grown a lot since then, so how does it feel to have such a sense of anticipation for a new release of yours from fans around the world?...

It can’t be denied that as far as martial arts movies go, the best ones come from Asia, particularly Hong Kong during their action heyday, which was arguably the 70s, 80s and first half of the ’90s. It’s tough to compete with the likes of the Shaw Brothers and the drunken master known as Jackie Chan. That said, martial arts movies were also making a foothold in the States decades ago, thanks mainly to Bruce Lee-mania following the release of Enter the Dragon. Before that movie, very few actors in Hollywood seemed like they were credible martial artists, except maybe James Coburn, a student of Lee’s, who pulled off some pretty good-looking moves in the otherwise silly Our Man Flint movies. Steve McQueen also had training but didn’t use martial arts on screen. Up to then, though, the most notable uses of martial arts in movies usually revolved around Judo,...

The bankrupted production company Village Roadshow, which financed The Matrix, has a catalogue of films worth a minimum of $417.5m, a judge has ruled.
The collapse of Village Roadshow in March 2025 brought to an end a production company whose history stretched back to the late 80s. In the wake of its bankruptcy, the LA-based firm’s back catalogue of films is going up for sale at auction – and the winning bidder will now have to pay a minimum of $417.5m to get it.
The ruling was made on the 22nd April according to The Hollywood Reporter, with Alcon Media Group – the production company behind Blade Runner 2049 and TV’s The Expanse – putting in an offer for Village Roadshow’s rights for that above-mentioned sum. A Delaware bankruptcy court judge today set a May 16 deadline for bidders interested in making a run at Village Roadshow, and a May 20 auction date if more than one party shows up.
The number to top is $416.5 million offered by Alcon Entertainment, which was approved by Judge Thomas Horan today as a so-called stalking horse bidder. Alcon topped an earlier $353 million stalking horse bid from Content Partners when the producer and financier of a string of big film titles filed for bankruptcy a month ago. The stalking horse sets a floor for others and, in this case increases “the likelihood that, given the circumstances, the best possible price for the Library Assets will be received,” the judge wrote in a filing approving the sale process.

The number to top is $416.5 million offered by Alcon Entertainment, which was approved by Judge Thomas Horan today as a so-called stalking horse bidder. Village Roadshow Entertainment Group’s film library will sell for at least $417.5 million.
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Thomas Horan on Tuesday approved an offer from Alcon Media Group for Village Roadshow’s collection of 108 feature films, including stakes in The Matrix and Ocean’s franchises, its fledgling studio business and ownership of various copyrights that’ll give the buyer the rights to co-produce proven tentpoles. The stalking horse bid, which sets a price floor for the assets, will be tested at auction. Rival offers, including from Warner Bros. Discovery and investment firm Content Partners, may still surface.
Last month, Village Roadshow — once one of the most prolific behind-the-scenes financiers in Hollywood — filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. It pointed to a costly endeavor aimed at creating content in-house and the souring of its longtime partnership with Warner Bros.

We may still be reeling from the season finale of The Wheel of Time, but don't worry, there's plenty more good fantasy television on the way this year. One of the biggest fantasy shows still to come down the pike in 2025 is The Witcher, which will be releasing its fourth season on Netflix. We don't have an exact release date yet, but unless there's a serious shake-up at Netflix, it will come sometime between now and December 31.
This is an important season for the series, since it will be the first time that the white-haired witcher Geralt of Rivia is played by Liam Hemsworth, after previous Geralt actor Henry Cavill stepped down following season 3. Changing a lead actor is always a challenge, and doubly so when they're as central to the series as Cavill's Geralt. Can The Witcher survive this change?
We shall see. Beyond Hemsworth's Geralt, The Witcher...

After more than 25 years, it truly feels like one of Ben Stiller's best films, "Mystery Men," could have been the band of underdogs that surpassed even the likes of "The Suicide Squad" or "Guardians of the Galaxy." Riffing on comic book superheroes before "Deadpool" made it cool, "Mystery Men" is adapted from a team of misfit heroes that debuted in "Flaming Carrot" #16 and showcases an array of comedic talent. These low-level and incredibly odd crimefighters consist of Mr. Furious (Ben Stiller), The Shoveller (William H. Macy), fork-throwing Blue Raja (Hank Azaria), the superhuman fart factory The Spleen (Paul Reubens), Invisible Boy, who can only disappear when no one is looking (Kel Mitchell), and The Bowler (Janeane Garofalo), whose weapon of choice is a bowling ball containing the skull of her late father.

It's been many, many years since we last heard of the Akira live-action adaptation, and fans felt like it was dead in the water again. However, during a recent interview, the movie's producer Andrew Lazar provided an unexpected update on the movie and even teased when fans should keep their eyes peeled for the next piece of news.
The comment came during a sit-down with Moovy TV, in which the producer was promoting Prime Video's new movie G20. When casually asked about Akira, Lazar stated that at the moment there isn't anything to say but provided a huge hint that suggests the project is very much alive. He stated:
"There's no update, but I expect we'll have one in the next couple of months. So I think you can expect an update in the next couple of months."

Headland recently produced the Cult of Love Broadway adaptation, which follows a family who return home for Christmas, and THR is reporting that the stage play is getting a feature film adaptation. Headland will write the screenplay and direct the film, with Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum producing under their Gloria Sanchez Productions Banner. Zachary Quinto, Shailene Woodley, and Barbie Ferreira all starred in the stage show, which ran from November 2024 to January 2025, but it’s unclear if any of them will return for the live-action film. Other casting is also being kept under wraps, as are details on production start or potential release windows.

Netflix’s new anime Devil May Cry has its fair share of compelling characters. One such character is Lady, or you can also call her Mary, who underwent a drastic change in the show. However, Adi Shankar’s version of Lady has ruffled some feathers!
Lady has been transformed from a cool, composed demon hunter who we all know and love into an angry, foul-mouthed antagonist who feels like a completely different character. The backlash is strong, but quite frankly, it is somewhat justified. But there’s room for improvement.
Instead of fixing her in season two, maybe we want to see Shankar embrace the chaos and make Lady the big bad villain. That’s a lot to throw on the table, but maybe it can flip the hate and leave us with an unforgettable character, but with a blend of twist.
Lady should be the mastermind villain in Devil May Cry

Live-action Akira is back? Yup. We can’t believe it either. Can you even believe that it’s now been like two decades or so since Hollywood initially considered creating a live-action adaptation of that old 1988 anime classic, Akira? And ever since 2002, the project has been stuck in a vicious cycle of “It’s actually happening!” and then “Nope, kidding, we’re delaying it again.”.
Now, against all odds (and honestly against many fans’ wishes), it looks like Akira might finally be rising from development hell. Producer Andrew Lazar, the same guy who did American Sniper and that new action movie G20, recently teased that some major updates are on the way.
A quick reminder: Why Akira is a big deal!
Before we take this crazy ride, let’s take a quick recap: Akira is not your typical anime. It’s a full-on sci-fi gem that actually popularized Japanese animation big-time worldwide.

We were just going to write and direct ‘Bound’, and write two other scripts."After ‘Bound’, the head of production at the time called us into his office and said, ‘You have to save my job. More than two decades after The Matrix redefined modern science fiction, co-creator Lilly Wachowski is opening up about how close the film came to not happening at all — and how a desperate plea from a Warner Bros. executive helped get the now-iconic movie made. Speaking to Collider's Steve Weintraubahead of a conversation she's doing this Saturday at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures for The Matrix trilogy, Wachowski — alongside visual effects director Lyndon Barrois — reflected on the chaotic state of the studio at the time and the gamble it took to greenlight a movie as wild and genre-defying as The Matrix.

Netflix’s Devil May Cry was a major disappointment to fans of the Capcom franchise, who were enraged by Adi Shankar’s creative liberty, which messed up the lore and characters of their beloved hack-and-slash video game franchise.
In the midst of this, during an interview with Cbr, Adi Shankar called the show a love letter to Capcom, Devil May Cry, and the fans. While he may have thought that the statement came across as heartwarming, fans have to disagree.

For a franchise that only has one movie adaptation, released almost 20 years ago, Speed Racer has managed to retain an impressive and passionate fan base. The cult following that the film earned over the years would make you think that the Lana and Lilly Wachowski (The Matrix) movie would've earned at least one or two commemorative editions over the years, but that's hardly the case. In a new interview with Collider, Lilly Wachowski spoke about the possibility of the movie getting a 4K Uhd release, but the news is discouraging at best.

The Last of Us season 2 is finally here, returning viewers to Jackson, Wyoming, where our hearts are sure to get ripped out in no time flat. HBO's post-apocalyptic drama is based on the beloved video game series by Naughty Dog, and as anyone who's played The Last of Us Part II knows, this season is going to get dark.
That's not to say it will explicitly follow the game to a T, however. In the season premiere, "Future Days," we already started seeing a few differences. For example, Joel (Pedro Pascal) has begun seeing a therapist, Gail (Catherine O'Hara), in order to make sense of the growing tensions between himself and his surrogate daughter, Ellie (Bella Ramsey).
Of course, Joel can't be totally open with Gail about the fact that he murdered a hospital full of people and denied the world a cure for the zombie plague by saving Ellie's life in the season 1 finale.

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter's next excellent adventure together has officially set its opening date, though it won't be in the world of Bill & Ted. Their previously announced Broadway rendition of Samuel Beckett's play Waiting for Godot is now set to begin previews at the Hudson Theatre, Broadway's oldest venue, on September 13. The curtain will officially rise on this strictly limited engagement starring the longtime friends on September 28, with dates running through January 4, 2026. Announcements for the full casting and design teams are expected soon.
Directed and produced by the acclaimed Jamie Lloyd, the show is a bit more of a serious affair for the dynamic duo than the most righteous time-travelling, rock-and-roll adventures they've typically embarked on together. Here’s What Keanu Reeves Once Said About His Training For The Matrix & John Wick(Photo Credit –Facebook)
When Keanu Reeves was switching between a black trench coat and a bulletproof suit, fans couldn’t help but wonder: what’s tougher – kung-fu wirework or judo gunplay? Reeves had the answer, and it came with puppies. In a throwback appearance on BuzzFeed’s YouTube channel, Reeves sat down to field fan questions while snuggling adorable puppies.
One fan asked about his training for The Matrix versus John Wick, and Reeves dropped the full scoop: “I did a lot of training and it was really fun. The Matrix, the first time was learning wire and kung-fu. That was months and months and months. John Wick was judo and jiu-jitsu and a lot more gun manipulation. And there was lots and lots and lots and lots.”
Keanu Reeves’ answer pretty much summed it up.

Which Movie Did Will Smith Begin Filming Without A Finished Script?(Photo Credit –Instagram)
Back in 2012, Men in Black 3 kicked off production without a finished script, and somehow, it still turned out to be one of Will Smith’s biggest hits. Risky move? Absolutely. However, Smith and director Barry Sonnenfeld believed the studio’s bold play had merit.
In fact, Sonnenfeld stood by the chaos, saying (via Newsweek), “Starting the movie without an absolutely finished script is not normally the right way to do movies. Unbelievably, it has now been almost a quarter of a century since a live-action adaptation of the 1988 cult smash-hit Akira first entered development hell for a ridiculously long time. While we haven’t heard much about the highly anticipated anime adaptation, that’s all about to change, as Academy Award-nominated producer Andrew Lazar has now teased some promising, and imminent, news.
Ever since being announced back in 2002, the new take on Akira has been passed around to several filmmakers, with the most recent being Oscar winner and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. Now, Lazar, who is best known for the likes of American Sniper and this month’s action movie G20, has revealed (via Johan Albrechtsen of Moovy TV) that, while he can’t say anything yet, he expects there will be some big news coming "in the next couple of months.”

The video game adaptation world has recently gotten a new project in the form of Devil May Cry by Adi Shankar on Netflix. It has been a few days since the series’ release, and it has made its place as one of the best anime of 2025. While most of the credit goes to the already-established Devil May Cry franchise, the story of the anime made an impact on its own.
The struggles and adventures of Demon Hunter Dante are the main focus of the story, but the series has also given a lot of importance to other significant characters like Lady and the White Rabbit. Shankar has truly put his heart and soul into the project, and before the release of the series, the showrunner reflected on the inspirations behind Devil May Cry.

Following a rather successful second outing last year, Warner Bros has given Beetlejuice 3 the go ahead.
After waiting several decades for a follow-up to 1988’s Beetlejuice, it looks like fans of the series won’t have to wait that long for the next one. Last year’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice made some serious bank for Warner Bros, and so it appears that a sequel has been quickly commissioned. The news comes via a Deadline interview with Warner Bros co-heads, Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, two executives who have had to weather plenty of speculation about their futures of late.
All of that noise doesn’t seem to have stopped them building up the studio’s future slate, though, and with A Minecraft Movie continuing to gobble up plenty of cash at the box office (it’s now north of half a billion dollars), they have a sizeable hit to point...

HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 dives deeper into the post-apocalyptic world we first explored in the hit game and its debut season. The show keeps pulling us into the lives of Joel and Ellie, now settled in Jackson, Wyoming, where new faces and old wounds shape their journey. Among the fresh characters, Eugene stands out, stirring up emotions and questions about the past, tying directly to the community’s fragile peace.
This season, the story expands beyond the game’s framework, much like the beloved Bill and Frank episode from Season 1. We meet people who add layers to Joel and Ellie’s struggles, with Eugene’s fate sparking tension that hits close to home. The showrunners weave in familiar elements from ‘The Last of Us Part II’ while crafting bold new arcs, keeping us hooked on what’s next for our favorite survivors.

Here’s Why Keanu Reeves Jumped Off A 46-Story Building Multiple Times! (Photo Credit – Netflix)
Keanu Reeves didn’t just play Neo. He launched himself off a 46-story building 19 times to get one shot just right for The Matrix Resurrections. No green screen. No backup. Just Keanu, wires, and gravity. The man wasn’t pretending to be a superhero. He was one.
The fourth Matrix film arrived more than a decade after The Matrix Revolutions wrapped up what everyone thought was a trilogy. But Neo’s story wasn’t done. Neither was Reeves’ commitment to pushing the limits. When The Matrix Resurrections dropped, so did he from a skyscraper. Repeatedly.
At 57, Reeves still did most of his stunts. He told The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he jumped off the same building nearly 20 times for one perfect take. The light had to be right. The timing was everything. Nerves of steel were required.

Much has been said about Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav's intention to replace current Warner Bros. Pictures heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, though the shock success of A Minecraft Movie may have bought the executives some time.
Regardless, Deadline recently spoke to them about the studio's future plans, including a Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sequel and new takes on The Matrix, Practical Magic, Gremlins, Goonies, and more. The DC brand also came up (despite DC Studios being separate from Warner Bros.), and De Luca shared high praise for James Gunn's Superman.
"I love Superman. I think James Gunn has crushed it," he said. "It’s got tons of his trademark heart and humor and the action is jaw dropping. It’s the Superman I grew up with, so I get choked up when I watch it. I think it’s so epic and visually arresting and emotional.
