This was one of the two scripts offered to Chris Columbus to direct, the other being Home Alone (1990).
Keep watching after the end credits.
Was the last non-PolyGram film to be released by Gramercy Pictures.
After Chris Columbus turned down directing National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) due to not getting along with Chevy Chase, John Hughes sent him two scripts; one was Home Alone (1990), the other was this film. Columbus chose the former, which became the most popular comedy in film history for two decades, whereas this film is virtually unknown and was a massive box office flop.
