Rest easy, Resident Alien fans. The show has officially been renewed for a fourth season!
It was a close call at NBCU about the show's future, so this is excellent news.
The big difference is that the show will no longer air on Syfy but on the sister NBCU site, USA Network.
We all wish USA's Blue Sky programming were still going today.
They've been out of scripted originals for a couple of years, but with the announcement of The Rainmaker last month, they're back in business.

Deadline reported earlier this year that the Resident Alien renewal was questionable, and they're breaking the news about it today, just as they expected by jumping networks.
At the time, they also said there would be a significant budget reduction, so when we return, things may not be the same in Patience, Colorado.

It’s official: Resident Alien has been renewed for a fourth season at a new NBCUniversal home, USA Network, moving from cable sibling Syfy.
As Deadline reported exclusively last month, the quirky sci-fi comedy-drama was not likely to continue on Syfy, with a move to USA as its most viable option to get a fourth season with a significant budget reduction. The transfer gives USA a second new scripted series, joining the recently picked up legal drama The Rainmaker as the once-thriving original scripted brand is returning to the arena with a slate influenced by the network’s glorious “Blue Sky” era that spanned most of the 2000s and early 2010s.

Resident Alien is on the move.
The dark sci-fi comedy starring Alan Tudyk has been renewed for a fourth season, and is shifting homes from Syfy to USA Network.
The idea is to expose the show to a broader audience, as USA Network tends to have a bit more reach than Syfy. Resident Alien has also recently gotten an awareness boost from Netflix picking up its first two seasons earlier this year.
Resident Alien stars Tudyk as crash-landed alien named Harry who tries to blend in with humans in a small Colorado town while hiding his secret mission to destroy humanity. The most recent, third season averaged 3.3 million total viewers across all platforms.
The move comes on the heels of USA reentering the scripted originals space by picking up a straight-to-series order for a reboot of the John Grisham legal drama The Rainmaker, from producers Lionsgate TV and Blumhouse TV.

From his early days as an actor, Matt Damon has proven his versatility in every role he plays. Good Will Hunting, Courage Under Fire, and The Rainmaker showed his range as a dramatic performer. Damon diversified his filmography and started venturing into action films with the first Jason Bourne film in 2002.

USA Network is returning to the legal drama arena with The Rainmaker, based on the bestselling John Grisham novel and its film adaptation. The project, from writer Michael Seitzman (Code Black), Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television, has received a series order by the NBCUniversal cable network, capping a six-year journey by Seitzman to bring the book to television.
This marks USA Network’s first new scripted series in awhile as part of a planned relaunch as a destination for scripted originals. The network currently shares Chucky with Syfy, which is on the bubble for a Season 4 renewal. It also is in advanced negotiations to pick up Syfy’s Resident Alien, which, as Deadline reported exclusively, is poised to become a USA original.

The series that aired in its “Blue Sky Era” — that is, the turn of the millennium to the mid-teens — were quirkier than anything you’d see on broadcast and not quite as edgy as those you’d see on pay cable. USA Network is reentering the scripted originals space.
The NBCUniversal-owned basic cable network has handed out a straight-to-series order for a reboot of The Rainmaker, from producers Lionsgate TV and Blumhouse TV, marking its first non-shared scripted series since 2020.
The cabler, which saw its former hits Suits and White Collar pop on Netflix, currently shares linear rights with corporate sibling Syfy to Chucky as its lone scripted series. The drama is the only scripted original to air on the network that previously ranked as the most watched cable network for a dozen years straight.
Based on the best-selling 1995 novel by John Grisham and subsequent 1997 feature film adaptation starring Matt Damon, Claire Danes, Jon Voight and Danny DeVito, The Rainmaker revolves around Rudy Baylor, a fresh out of law school attorney who goes head to head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond, as well as his law school girlfriend. Thanks to Baz Luhrmann's electrifying 2022 biopic "Elvis," fans new and old (some very old at this point) have enthusiastically delved into the cultural icon's past to get a more nuanced understanding of how this Tennessee-born mama's career took so many unexpected turns before he collapsed in a pharmaceutically-induced heap at the age of 42.
Every chapter of Presley's life is packed with decisions both brilliant and personally/professionally self-destructive. Indeed, his tragic arc might just be the definitive showbiz cautionary tale. His was an incandescent (if highly derivative) talent that attracted opportunists and admirers; he was treated as a product, and, thus, had an awful tendency to treat those who genuinely loved him with the respect and tenderness they deserved.

The accomplished filmmaker is one of the era-defining filmmakers of the 70s up to the 90s, where he made some of the best works of his career. When most cinephiles think of Francis Ford Coppola, they think of his miracle run in the 1970s. During that decade, he directed four films, all of them five-star masterpieces: The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather, Part II, and Apocalypse Now. Or they think of embarrassments from his for-hire period, including the Robin Williams weepy Jack. Yet those five films hardly encapsulate the entire career of Francis Ford Coppola, which will likely end with the upcoming Megalopolis. Instead the best indication of Coppola as an artist and filmmaker might be found in the most recent movies he’s made, with Coppola having released three self-produced and self-financed pictures every two years between 2007 and 2011: Youth Without Youth, Twixt, and Tetro.
Although they vary in quality, and none top his work from the ’70s, this independent trio captures the experimental and romantic heart that lies at the center of Coppola’s overall oeuvre.

Francis Ford Coppola has made some of the most defining American films of all time, including The Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now. Although not every film in his oeuvre holds such a vaunted place in cinema history, Coppola’s over 60-year career deserves a titanic close. Megalopolis promises to be just such a proper ending with its ambitious self-funding and a massive cast led by Adam Driver. Coppola has been gathering ideas about the project for as long as he’s been making movies, but the kernel of the concept goes back even farther.

Eleanor Coppola, Emmy-Winning Director of ‘Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse,’ Dies at 87
Eleanor Coppola, the matriarch of a Hollywood dynasty who won an Emmy for directing the documentary Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse and helmed her first narrative feature at age 80, died Friday. She was 87.
Coppola died at her home in Rutherford, California, her family said in a statement to the Associated Press.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, five-time Oscar-winning filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, 85; their daughter, Sofia Coppola, the director, producer and Oscar-winning screenwriter; and their son, Roman Coppola, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter.
Her oldest child, actor Gian-Carlo Coppola, died in 1986 at age 22 in a speedboat accident.
Eleanor Coppola often went on location with Francis, and during the making of his Vietnam War epic Apocalypse Now (1979), she was in the Philippines to shoot footage with a 16mm camera and conduct interviews, material that supposedly was to be used by the United Artists publicity department.
It would all be seen in Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse.

This post contains spoilers for the first episode of "The Twilight Zone."
The first episode of Rod Serling's anthology series "The Twilight Zone" aired on October 2, 1959. The episode was called "Where Is Everybody?," and it starred Earl Holliman as a man with no memories, walking down a dirt road. He arrives in a small town. No one is there. He cries out for anyone, but no one answers. He tries the public telephone, but there is no operator. He sees a woman in a car, but she turns out to be a mere mannequin. He helps himself to some diner food, which is still fresh. Machines seem to operate on their own, as when our hero goes to a movie theater and the picture starts automatically. What is happening? Is everyone hiding? Where is everybody? The solitude slowly begins to drive him into a panic.
The twist ending: the...

Matt Damon once found himself auditioning against Edward Norton for a role in Norton’s acclaimed film Primal Fear. But according to Damon, he didn’t come close to snagging the film away from his competitor.
Matt Damon and Edward Norton both auditioned for ‘Primal Fear’ Matt Damon | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Earlier in his career, Damon was pursuing a starring role in the 1996 film Primal Fear. He was in competition with thousands of actors who all sensed the potential in the role. At the time, Damon was also against another future star for the part in Edward Norton.
Unlike Damon, who already had minor parts in movies, Primal Fear would be Norton’s cinematic debut. The Fight Club star asked casting director Deborah Aquila, through a Fax, for an opportunity to audition. Aquila then gave Norton a chance to prove himself.

Inga Swenson, the two-time Tony-nominated singer and actress who as the dictatorial German cook Gretchen Kraus sparred with Robert Guillaume‘s character on the 1980s ABC sitcom Benson, has died. She was 90.
Swenson died Sunday night of natural causes in hospice care in Los Angeles, her son, Mark Harris, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Swenson also sparkled in two critically acclaimed 1962 films released seven weeks apart — as the mother of Helen Keller (Patty Duke) in Arthur Penn’s The Miracle Worker (1962) and as the wife of a U.S. senator with a dark secret (Don Murray) in Otto Preminger’s political thriller Advise & Consent (1962).
On the strength of those performances, the Nebraska native — no, she was not born in Germany — was cast in 1963 as the spinster Lizzy in 110 in the Shade, based on N. Richard Nash’s play The Rainmaker. She received a Tony nomination for best actress in a musical for that performance,...

Matt Damon went through great lengths for his starring role in the 1996 feature Courage Under Fire. But transforming for his character the way that he did came at a physical and mental price.
Matt Damon spent years on Ptsd medication after his role in ‘Courage Under Fire’ Matt Damon | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Courage Under Fire was a very important film for Damon at the time. Damon played a former soldier and medic who was traumatized from the experiences he faced in a war. Damon’s character turned to drugs to curb that trauma, which later led to extreme addiction. The actor was willing to do whatever it took to prepare for the role, including losing 40 pounds to achieve his character’s emaciated look.
But losing all of that weight so quickly came with long term physical complications. In a resurfaced interview with Film Scout, Damon revealed he ate excessively after filming the movie.

With its list of new releases for June 2022, HBO Max is joining in what should be a TV summer to remember.
Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.
Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

Katharine Hepburn was crowned four times as Best Actress by Oscar voters, thus she reigns (as of this writing) as the biggest winner of Hollywood’s top award. Officially, that makes her Oscar’s queen. This week is her birthday, so it’s a good time to give her the bow she deserves from award nuts like us. Having been born on May 12, 1907, she was a still a feisty firebrand at age 96 when she died

Francis Ford Coppola is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 21, almost 50 years to the day “The Godfather” hit theaters. While that film launched his career into the stratosphere, Coppola cemented himself as one of our greatest auteurs thanks to his impressive output in the following years with films including “The Conversation,” “Apocalypse Now” and of course, the “Godfather” sequels.
The filmmaker is both excited and practical about the honor. When one expresses surprise he doesn’t already have a star on the Walk of Fame, he says: “The way that it works is that when a picture opens, the studio that has financed or distributed it pays to get your name on the street. Since I have either financed or distributed my own movies, I’ve never had the good fortune of having a studio take that event.”

Elvis in "Charro!", released the same year as "True Grit"- 1969.
By Lee Pfeiffer
When John Wayne was signed by producer Hal Wallis for the role of cantankerous marshal Rooster Cogburn in the film version of Charles Portis's bestseller "True Grit", there was immediate speculation as to who would be cast as the young Texas Ranger, La Boeuf. Wayne and Wallis agreed that Elvis Presley would be an ideal choice. In fact, Wayne had approached Elvis on several occasions over the years to appear on screen with him only to have the dictatorial Colonel Parker put the kabosh on any such dream teaming. Parker always insisted that Elvis get top billing, even when it was impractical. For example, in the mid-1950s when Elvis had just emerged as a music sensation, he had the opportunity to co-star with Burt Lancaster and Katharine Hepburn in "The Rainmaker". Yet, the Colonel...

In the rich tradition of “The Rainmaker,” “Primal Fear,” and any other legal drama where an attorney goes above and beyond the call of duty for their client, Apple TV+ ushers in the 2020 version, “Defending Jacob.” Filled with smart-sounding legalese and impassioned pleas for justice, the eight-part limited series based on William Landay’s completely fictitious 2012 novel sees the tables turned on a Massachusetts district attorney whose son is accused of killing another teen boy. Freed from the moral shackles of his role as state prosecutor, Andrew Barber can — and will — do whatever it takes to prove his child’s innocence… even if he’s guilty.

Francis Ford Coppola, the man behind undisputed classics like The Godfather, The Conversation and Apocalypse Now, recently went one step further than Scorsese and flat-out labeled the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s output as despicable.
Coppola’s criticism comes from the same place as Scorsese’s, with the filmmaker chastising the lack of enlightenment and inspiration that he finds lacking in the McU. However, he’s also forgetting that the franchise is beloved by millions of fans around the world, many of whom have deep emotional attachments to the characters found in the studio’s work.
In the wake of his outburst, fans have taken to social media to let their feelings known, with many of them sharing the same sentiments echoed...

Exclusive: CAA has signed Francis Ford Coppola, the six-time Oscar-winning writer, director, and producer.
The agency will help Coppola mount his epic project, Megalopolis, the drama set in New York about a master architect and city design czar’s grand vision to create a utopian city of the future. Coppola has been ruminating on this project for nearly two decades, and even shot much of the second unit footage of architecture and street sounds and scenes, just before the destruction of 9/11 brought the project to a halt. Coppola, who had spent several years making small personal films, found the spark to return to Megalopolis as he made new cuts of Apocalypse Now and The Cotton Club, with new cut of The Godfather: Part III also in his plans. His production company, American Zoetrope, which he co-founded with George Lucas in 1969, continues to produce films and television, and CAA Media Finance...

Hulu is pumping the brakes on Marvel’s Ghost Rider. The streaming giant has opted not to move forward with a series based on the iconic character, TVLine has confirmed, just five months after announcing that the show was in development. The decision to cancel Ghost Rider reportedly came when the show’s team arrived at a “creative impasse” with Hulu.
Gabriel Luna, who previously portrayed Ghost Rider (aka Robbie Reyes) in the fourth season of ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., was set to reprise the role for Hulu, albeit in a “completely new iteration” of the character. Luna has...

Hulu has opted not to proceed with an ambitious two-series drama project based on two John Grisham’s novels, the 1995 The Rainmaker and 2015 Rogue Lawyer.
I hear there is interest from other potential buyers in the project, which had been envisioned as the first chapter in a larger franchise, tentatively titled The Grisham Universe. It hails from writers Michael Seitzman, Jason Richman, Grisham, ABC Signature and Seitzman and Christina Davis’ ABC Studios-based Maniac Productions.
The Grisham Universe had been in development at Hulu since last year and opened a writers room in December. I hear its scope of the multi-series drama and the big budget associated with the premise might have been a factor in Disney-owned Hulu’s decision.
The Rainmaker-Rogue Lawyer is described as “two books, two shows, one shared storyline” with Seitzman and Richman serving as co-showrunners. The plan was for the two series — both set...

Hulu is no longer moving forward with its plans of developing its own shared TV universe based on John Grisham’s novels, an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap.
The first two series were going to be adaptations of “Rogue Lawyer” and “The Rainmaker.” Both were being overseen by Michael Seitzman and Jason Richman. Hulu was working with ABC Signature on the project, with Grisham set to executive produce.
Dubbed “The Grisham Universe,” the two series were designed so that they would stand on their own, but would share characters and have plotlines intersect with each other. Viewers could watch each season independently or bounce from the first episode of “Rainmaker” to the first episode of “Rogue Lawyer,” then back to “Rainmaker,” etc.
