A grim drama about a couple who go on a murderous spree across the Spanish land
ma-cortes26 April 2022
The lives of a socially maladjusted teen (Daniel González) and a mindless girl (Nico Bidasolo) are united under tragic circumstances. He is a restless and unfocused young man coming from the wrong side of the tracks who on an impulse he shoots a security guard . He has just shot in the face a mall guard who accused him of stealing at a local . When he steals a car to escape, he meets a suicidal girl who is attracted to her new companion. After letting the initial emotions of the situation settle down, then she decides voluntarily to go with him . Together they embark on a journey in search of true meaning for their lives , but things go wrong . He continues his murderous ways in order to protect the life he wants to eke out with her .Along the way they're mercilessly chased by a tough police inspector (Karra Elejalde) . For awhile they lived together. She watched while he killed a lot of people .

This ¨My Brother's Gun¨ 1997 is a slow and tiring movie displaying drama , a love story , action, violence and isn't entertaining enough . Despite passable portrayals , the main roles are totally unlikeable , which means you watch as a riveted observer without becoming involved with them or their motives . As the movie is visually decent but ultimately depressing . Based on the dramatic novel by writer/director Ray Loriga , however the adaptation results to be dull and disjointed . Duo of protagonists : Daniel González , Nico Bidasolo give lousy interpretations. Support cast are much better , such as : the famous Viggo Mortensen , the Italian Anna Galiena and notorious Spanish actors as Andrés Gertrúdix , Pepo Oliva, Manolo Caro , Karra Elejalde and the attractive singer/actress Christina Rosenvinge as Alicia.

This picture belongs to a subgenre about escaped couples who flee and along the way undertaking a criminal spree , such as : ¨They live by Night¨ 1948 by Nicholas Ray with Cathy O'Donnell , Farley Granger ; ¨Bonnie and Clyde¨ 1967 by Arthur Penn with Warren Beatty , Faye Dunaway , Gene Hackman , Michael J. Pollard ; ¨¨Malas tierras¨ or Badlands (1973) by Terrence Malick with Martin Sheen , Sissy Spacek , Warren Oates , among others.

It packs a colorful and glamorous cinematography by the prestigious cameraman José Luis Alcaine . Directed by Ray Loriga who made a passable but really boring film . In fact , the film was panned by critics , suffering the extreme contempt , being really scorned . Ray Loriga was born in 1967 in Madrid, Madrid, Spain. He is a writer and director, known for La pistola de mi hermano or My Brother's Gun (1997), Teresa, el cuerpo de Cristo (2007) and writer of Carne trémula (1997) , El 7º día (2004) and Ausentes (2005) . This La pistola de mi hermano(1997) won some prizes and nomnations , such as : Bogota Film Festival 1998 Winner Honorable Mention Ray Loriga , Nominee Golden Precolumbian Circle Best Film Ray Loriga , Valladolid International Film Festival 1997 Nominee Golden Spike Best Film Ray Loriga.
