10. Not Another Teen Movie (2001)
Tired of the repetitive teen rom-coms of the 1990s, director Joel Gallen decided to make his own — and arguably, one of the best by far. In perhaps the most classic teen movie tale, a popular high-school jock gets challenged by his friends to turn a shy and bullied girl into a prom queen… And hopelessly falls in love with her.
You can watch Not Another Teen Movie on Hulu, Netflix, and Prime Video.
9. Scary Movie (2000)
A very similar thought occurred to Keenen Ivory Wayans, the director of Scary Movie who pumped his flick full with the most popular horror cliches of the 1990s — and still produced a greatly entertaining film. A group of teenagers who accidentally killed a man is haunted by a mysterious mumbling killer who picks them off one by one.
You can watch Scary Movie on Max, Hulu, Netflix, and Prime Video.

In Jay Roach's 1997 James Bond spoof "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," the film's villain, Dr. Evil (Mike Myers), aims to murder off his arch-nemesis by dropping him into a tank full of man-eating sharks. In a supervillainous twist, the sharks will be equipped with laser beams affixed to their heads. Dr. Evil says he likes his pets to have a well-cooked meal before eating. He then cackles maniacally. A lieutenant of his, however, informs Dr. Evil that buying sharks equipped with lasers is immensely difficult and that the tank is, instead, filled with flesh-eating sea bass. Dr. Evil isn't thrilled. "You know, I have one simple request," Dr. Evil says, "and that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!"
One cannot say if there's a direct connection to the above scene and a James Bond movie that Sean Connery once wrote, but there are a few uncanny similarities.

Elizabeth Hurley, best known for her roles in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Serving Sara is making headlines for a particular scene in her latest film, Strictly Confidential, a s-x scene to be specific. However, it’s not the steamy scene itself that’s causing a stir in the headlines.
Rather, it’s the fact that the scene was written and directed by her son, Damian Hurley, that’s catching people’s attention. Nevertheless, Elizabeth Hurley, being a professional, says that the situation wasn’t at all uncomfortable for either her or her son.

Famous for starring in the Mike Myers-led Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Elizabeth Hurley will be headlining her son’s directorial debut, set to release next month. While watching s-x scenes unfold onscreen alongside their children can be awkward for many parents, the actress said having her son behind the lens for Strictly Confidential was relaxing.

Some classic rock songs are better the second time around. Cher released “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)” as an uptempo song, but Nancy Sinatra’s ballad cover became more iconic. Sinatra discussed the movie that revived her cover.
Nancy Sinatra wanted to flip Cher’s ‘Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)’ on its head
During a 2013 interview with Vice, Sinatra was asked if she ever covered songs to improve them. “I don’t know that I had that in mind, but I think sometimes I did do it better than the original,” he said. “Like ‘Bang Bang.’ And no offense to Cher, because her record is great and it sold millions of copies. But I like turning a song around and really hearing what the lyric says.”

When a movie making $500m – half a billion – is considered a financial disappointment, might it be time to rethink the Hollywood model?
The story of Disney’s live action take on The Little Mermaid was glossed over a little when the studio’s box office performance was assessed this year. The film, directed by Rob Marshall and starring the terrific Halle Bailey in the lead role, cost the studio a reported $250m or so to make, and returned $569m once its global takings had been totted up.
A decent amount of change by most people’s standards, and for another other studio but Disney, that’d be regarded as a decent result. Yet it’s not enough by the standards of corporate Hollywood, and certainly not the numbers the company was hoping for when it greenlit the film.

After the massive success of the "Wayne's World" movies, studios were eager to capitalize on the popularity of "Saturday Night Live" cast member Mike Myers and his ability to create truly memorable characters. While womanizing James Bond spoof that is Austin Powers wasn't something Myers brought to "SNL" like the "Wayne's World" sketches, the shagadelic spoy blew up in pop culture pretty quickly.
"Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" made him a household name in 1997, complete with a massive marketing campaign and merchandise ranging from Austin Powers Halloween costumes to vintage tin lunchboxes. (Welcome to Did They Get It Right?, a series where we look at Oscars categories from yesteryear and examine whether the Academy's winners stand the test of time.)
Best Original Song is such an odd category. On the Academy Awards broadcast, it is the one that gets the most airtime, as it is typical to perform all five of the nominated tunes during the show. While this is technically meant to showcase the nominees, it is really an excuse to break up what would be a fairly monotonous, long awards show.
However, most of the songs nominated for Best Original Song aren't all that interesting. A lot of the time, these tunes aren't integral to the film itself in the slightest, and they are simply musical wallpaper to play over the end credits of a movie as you file out of the theater. Nearly a year has gone by since we learned that Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery) had signed on to star in Piper, a new horror film from director Anthony Waller. Now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the movie is set to have its world premiere at FrightFest this Sunday, August 27th – and ahead of the premiere, a trailer for Piper has arrived online! You can check it out in the embed above.
Back in 1995, director Waller made an impressive breakthrough with the thriller Mute Witness… then quickly squandered the good will he had earned with that movie by following it up with An American Werewolf in Paris. Waller has made a couple movies since the Paris debacle – the 2000 Bill Pullman thriller The Guilty, the 2009 sci-fi horror film 9 Miles Down – and here’s hoping that Piper will earn him some positive attention again.

Hollywood icon and literal living legend Clint Eastwood turned 93 on Wednesday, marking yet another amazing milestone in a life full of them. And in honor of the “Unforgiven” director’s big day, fellow action star Arnold Schwarzenegger paid tribute in a short but nevertheless touching Instagram post.
“Happy birthday, Clint! You’ve inspired me, you’ve mentored me, and you’re a wonderful friend. At 93, you prove that heroes don’t retire – they reload. You’re a legend,” Schwarzenegger wrote in a message posted along with a recent but undated photo of the pair skiing.

At the end of May, the streamer is dropping the Schwarzenegger-starring spy comedy Fubar, in which the former California governor and Top Gun: Maverick’s Monica Barbaro play a father and daughter who discover they’ve each been secretly working as CIA operatives as they’re forced to team up and get to know each other’s true selves.
And earlier this month, in time for Mother’s Day, Lopez plays an assassin who emerges from hiding to protect a daughter she gave up for adoption years earlier in The Mother, streaming this Friday. 1966 was a good year to be a child watching TV. It was the premiere year of "Star Trek," of course, and little kids could easily fall in love with Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and the adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Debuting at about the same time was "The Monkees," a playful riff on "A Hard Days Night" starring the eponymous pre-fab rock group that has always, to my eye, been way more interesting than the Beatles. 1966 was also the year of the fourth season of "The Avengers," the first season to feature Diana Rigg as Emma Peel.
1966 was also the debut of "Batman," one of the best TV shows of all time. Unlike most TV series, "Batman" aired two days a week, with the first half of a cliffhanger airing on Wednesdays, and the conclusion airing on Thursdays. It starred the impeccably funny Adam West and Burt Ward, two...

Must-watch comedy series, eye-opening documentaries and an expansion of the “Bridgerton” universe are among the noteworthy additions to Netflix this month. May 12 sees the premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s new Netflix original film “The Mother,” in which she plays an assassin lured back in for one last job. And on May 23, the documentary “Victim/Suspect” examines how sexual assault victims too often get turned into suspects when they report their assaults.
“Queen Charlotte,” the “Bridgerton” prequel series, arrives on May 4 while a new season of Tim Robinson’s sketch series “I Think You Should Leave” drops on May 30. After being a box office stable for decades, Arnold Schwarzenegger is finally coming to the world of television. Netflix has released the first trailer for “Fubar,” its upcoming action comedy about a CIA operative who joins his daughter for one final mission. The eight-episode series is set to premiere on the streaming service May 25.
The first few seconds of the “Fubar” trailer make it look like your typical Schwarzenegger movie. Luke (Schwarzenegger) is captured by a group of thugs who seem hellbent on making him pay. Seconds later, he breaks free and makes good on his promise to “kill all of you and then leave.” Back at the CIA, he’s surrounded by adoring co-workers who are happy to celebrate his impending retirement. But all of his happiness fades when Luke learns that his daughter Emma (Monica Barbaro) has followed in his footsteps to join this highly secretive and dangerous world.

Hollywood legend Natalie Wood had a dark prophecy hanging over her head long before her death. A movie star since childhood, Wood was in a series of classics before her life was cut short at 43. But despite a brilliant career, the West Side Story star had a troubling private life. Her mysterious 1981 drowning was even predicted by a psychic, creating a fear of water she never let go of.
Natalie Wood’s mother pushed her into show business
On the surface, Wood’s arrival on the 1940s scene was a triumph. Her first credited screen role (Tomorrow is Forever) put her opposite influential movie magnate Orson Welles. She was only seven at the time.
Following the success of Tomorrow is Forever, Wood landed the role that would cement her status as a child star. Miracle on 34th Street was one of the most popular movies of 1947. It remains one of Wood’s most famous roles.

London, Feb 13 (Ians) Artificial intelligence (AI) is suffering from severe gender imbalance, risking development of discriminatory technology and cinema promotes it as the product of lone male geniuses with God-like complexes, researchers have revealed.
The study by University of Cambridge found that just 8 per cent of all depictions of AI professionals from a century of film are women — and half of these are shown as subordinate to men.
Researchers said that such cultural tropes and a lack of female representation affects career aspirations and sector recruitment.
Without enough women building AI, there is a high risk of gender bias seeping into the algorithms set to define the future, they said in a paper published in the journal Public Understanding of Science.
The team whittled down over 1,400 films to the 142 most influential cinematic works featuring AI between 1920 and 2020, and identified 116 characters they classed as “AI professionals”.

I'll let you in on a weird secret: when I was a kid, one of the prettiest songs I'd ever heard didn't come from a classical recording or a popular radio ballad, but from an Austin Powers movie. Specifically, it was Mike Myers' first turn as the Bond-parodying spy in "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" that left me teary, with a surprisingly sweet scene that saw Austin romancing his gal, Vanessa (Elizabeth Hurley), while Burt Bacharach crooned in the background. Bacharach's presence in the Austin Powers films, first playing piano and singing "What the World Needs Now," and later accompanying Elvis Costello in a rendition of "I'll Never Fall in Love Again," was an inexplicable sort of movie magic. The late composer and pianist didn't fit into the otherwise farcical comedy, but he also elevated it into something classic.

Burt Bacharach, who has passed away at 94, was one of the greatest pop songwriters of all time. Period. Point blank. Working with lyricist Hal David, they created some of the most indelible, hummable tunes of the 20th Century, songs you can't believe there was a time when they didn't exist. Some people are lucky to have one song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Bacharach had six, not to mention 22 more that reached the top 10. In particular, he owned the 1960s. At a time where the idea of popular music was being completely revolutionized, his brand of deceptively simple jazzy pop still shined incredibly bright.
One person who understood the importance of Burt Bacharach to the 1960s was Mike Myers. So, when it came time to make his ode to James Bond and the decade from which he was cinematically birthed, Myers wanted to shine a spotlight on a man responsible...

When the sad news of Burt Bacharach’s death came down Thursday morning, your first memories of the songwriting genius likely depended on your age. If you grew up in the Sixties, you probably remember the hits he wrote with Hal David for artists like Gene Pitney, Dionne Warwick, and B.J. Thomas. Children of the Eighties are likely more familiar with Christoper Cross’ “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do),” Neil Diamond’s “Heartlight,” and the Dionne Warwick charity single “That’s What Friends Are For.”

Burt Bacharach, the massively influential composer of dozens of hits like “Walk on By,” “Do You Know the Way to San Jose,” Alfie,” “I Say a Little Prayer” and “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head,” died of natural causes Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 94.
His death was announced by his publicist Tina Brausam to the Associated Press today.
Bacharach, whose elegantly melodic compositions, arrangements and production seemed an effective and calming response in the 1960s and ’70s to ever-louder rock music, collaborated with lyricist Hal David to provide Dionne Warwick with career-making hits in the early to mid-’60s, including now classics “Don’t Make Me Over,” “Anyone Who Had a Heart,” “Walk On By,” “Alfie,” “I Say a Little Prayer” and “Do You Know the Way to San Jose.”

Tom Cruise remains on top after all these years. Top Gun: Maverick earned nearly 1.5 billion at the box office, and scored six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. But as great as his recent film work has been, some think most of his links to Scientology. Cruise is synonymous with the controversial religion now, but it was his first wife, Mimi Rogers, who introduced him to the church. The couple eventually divorced, and Rogers left Scientology for good. Like most stories related to the church, the story behind their split is strange and full of unconfirmed rumors.

Cruise and Rogers started dating in 1985. In hindsight, it was probably a red flag that the pair couldn’t even agree on how they first met.

When it comes to on-screen characters, few are nearly as vibrant as Austin Powers. Fewer still can pull off the larger-than-life superspy's careful balancing act: equal parts endearing and unapologetically cringe-inducing, there's never a dull moment when Austin is around. But as flashy as the character might be, Mike Myers had just one quiet, touching thing on his mind when he dreamt up Austin Powers: his late father, Eric Myers.
It's pretty common for parents to shape their kids' tastes, and Eric Myers was no exception. As Mike would tell The Hollywood Reporter in 2017, his father played a large role in developing his own sense of comedy — and Austin Powers was meant to pay homage to that influence:
"After my dad died in 1991, I was taking stock of his influence on me as a person and his influence on me with comedy in general. So Austin Powers was a tribute to my father,...

It's fair to say that Mike Myers has struggled to find an audience in recent years. If 2022's "The Pentaverate" is anything to go by, relevancy isn't exactly Myers' strong point. Not that his Netflix series was without its charms, it's just the Canadian had a major moment in the '90s when his farcical shenanigans went over much better than they do today. In fact, Myers had a legendary run during that decade, making arguably the most successful "Saturday Night Live" spin-off franchise with "Wayne's World" and going on to create a cultural phenomenon with his spy spoof "Austin Powers."
The 1997 comedy remains one of my personal favorites simply because it's unapologetically ridiculous and over-the-top in its skewering of my homeland's pop cultural history. The "Austin Powers" films most obviously parodies James Bond, but Myers, who was raised by Liverpudlian parents in Toronto, takes his cues from a wide...

Before Canadian actor Mike Myers was yelling "Yeah, baby" through fake teeth or battling (and playing) Dr. Evil in "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" and its sequels, he was a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" from 1989-1995. Myers created unforgettable characters like the strongly-accented Linda Richman from "Coffee Talk," the severe Dieter, host of the German dance show "Sprockets," the basement-dwelling Wayne Campbell, who later headed the movie "Wayne's World," and the angry Scottish man Stuart Rankin, owner of the fictional store "All Things Scottish."
In addition to his memorable creations, Myers has recently appeared in David O. Russell's "Amsterdam" and played almost every character in the Netflix original series "The Pentaverate." "SNL" was where we got to know him, though, and it turns out that getting on the show was important to Myers because of original "SNL" cast member Gilda Radner.

James Bond is dead. Blown up by a big old bunch of missiles to destroy the nanobots he was infected with.
At least, this Bond, the one played by Daniel Craig, is dead. He’s also the Bond who we first met beating up a guy in a toilet in the moody black and white opening of Casino Royale. And with him dies the first properly 21st-century take on Bond, hailed as a complete reinvention of the character despite being written by the same screenwriters who supposedly killed the franchise in fans’ minds with Die Another Day.
This Bond was fresh, new, and yet also harked back to the origins of the character—adapting Ian Fleming’s very first Bond novel to create an origin story for the agent (at a time when those were very in vogue).
Where previous Bonds were strapped to a table with a laser beam pointed at their crotch,...

I don't care what anybody says, "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" absolutely holds up. Yeah, it's extremely stupid, but that's why it's great! The first "Austin Powers" film isn't trying to be anything more than it is, and that's refreshing. It's a comedy where Mike Myers plays multiple characters, and that rules! Okay, sure, parts of it haven't aged very well, but that's to be expected with any comedy of yesteryear. Fortunately, there wasn't anything absolutely horrific, so I feel comfortable continuing to defend the film as a favorite.
One of the funniest parts of the film is the relationship between Dr. Evil, one of Mike Myers' roles, and his son, Scott Evil, played by Seth Green (of being dangled over a trash can by Bill Murray fame). Dr. Evil is, as you can imagine, evil, a caricature of the more ridiculous Bond villains you would see during the Roger Moore era.

Back in 1995, director Anthony Waller made an impressive breakthrough with the thriller Mute Witness… then quickly squandered the good will he had earned with that movie by following it up with An American Werewolf in Paris. Waller has made a couple movies since the Paris debacle – the 2000 Bill Pullman thriller The Guilty, the 2009 sci-fi horror film 9 Miles Down – and now he’s back with another excursion into the horror genre. His new movie is called The Piper, and The Hollywood Reporter has just shared the first image from the movie, an image that features star Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery). You can check it out at the bottom of this article.
Scripted by Waller from a story by Duncan Kennedy, this supernatural thriller is said to put Hurley against “an evil, child-stealing folklore legend” in “a darker and contemporary twist on the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin,...

An interesting piece of trivia: Peter Deming, the cinematographer on David Lynch's "Lost Highway," shot Lynch's film, "Scream 2," and "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" all in the same year. Immediately prior to "Lost Highway," he shot the cockroach comedy "Joe's Apartment." The man is nothing if not diverse.
"Lost Highway" is an oblique nightmare that swirls haphazardly around themes of identity and sexual insecurity. Its main character -- who may be two main characters -- is lost in a shadowy noir world of demonic cameramen, underground porn, creepy faceless stalkers, and life-threatening gangsters. Lynch's films are typically surreal and oblique, but can often contain a great deal of humanity and recognizable facets of warmth. One might think of Sailor and Lula from "Wild at Heart," or some of the more subtly funny moments in "Eraserhead".

Throughout his decades-long career, writer, actor, comedian, and director Mike Myers has been part of not one, not two, but three mammoth movie hits. Google his name, and you'll find stories alternating between the mullet hero of "Wayne's World," a psychedelic spy, or a grumpy green ogre -- such is the versatility of this Canadian-born comedy machine.

It’s hard to overstate just how popular Austin Powers was 20 years ago. But back in the summer of 2002, when Mike Myers starred in his third and (as of press time) final appearance as the character via Austin Powers in Goldmember, the James Bond and 1960s spoof was more than just a comedy hit in its moment; it was the moment.
Released in late July, Austin Powers 3 opened to 73 million in its first domestic weekend. Back then that was staggering for a comedy. And frankly, it’s staggering for a comedy right now. The debut marked a 75 percent increase from Austin Powers in the Spy Who Shagged Me’s bow three summers earlier when that second picture premiered to 17.98 million in the shadow of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999). Summer is almost over. You can feel it as the days are getting longer. You can smell it as the air gets a little cooler and that first bit of foliage starts to fall. While the heat is still raging in large swaths of the U.S. (which this streaming list has been composed for), the truth is things are starting to quiet down.
In that vein, it’s a perfect time to curl up with someone and “Netflix and chill” as the kids might say. It’s also just a good time to revisit some old favorites, which Netflix is bringing back to the streaming service in droves. Here are the best of those gems.

Dr. Evil. Fembots. Mini-Me. You’re probably a fan of the Austin Powers movies if these names mean anything. The films were produced and written by Mike Myers, who also starred as the title character and Dr. Evil.
The franchise parodies numerous films and characters, including the James Bond series and Jason King. It also incorporates various other elements of popular culture, following a British spy’s quest to bring his nemesis down.
The movies are filled with humor, action, and references to pop culture, making them timeless classics. If you want to watch the Austin Powers movies in order, you’ve come to the right place. There are three Austin Powers Movies; the first film in the Austin Powers series was produced by Mike Myers, Demi Moore, Jennifer Todd, and Suzanne Todd. However, the last two Austin Powers films were also made by John S. Lyons and Eric McLeod.

By the power of Grayskull, Netflix’s list of new releases for July 2021 is here!
As you may have been able to tell by that clever opening, July is the month that Masters of the Universe: Revelation arrives on Netflix. This animated series from Kevin Smith continues the classic stories of He-Man and his buff friends. If nostalgia not be what ye seek, Netflix has plenty other original series this month as well. The amazingly hilarious sketch series I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson returns for season 2 on July 6. Also returning for a second season are Beastars, Never Have I Ever (both on July 15), and Outer Banks (July 30).
Netflix’s movie offerings are pretty thick this month since July marks the real beginning of the summer blockbuster season. The streamer is bringing not one, but three Fear Street films based on R.L. Stine’s classic book series. They...

Movies are back. It at least feels that way when you see the numbers that films like F9 and A Quiet Place Part II are earning. But more than just the thrill of going back to theaters, July signals what is typically considered to be the height of the summer movie season. On a hot evening, there are few things better than some cold air conditioning and a colder drink of your choice while escapism plays across a screen.
That can prove just as true at home as in theaters. And as luck would have it, Netflix is pretty stuffed with new streaming content this month. Below there are space adventures, comedies, dramas, and more than a few epics worth your attention, either as a revisit or new discovery. And we’ve rounded them up for your scrolling pleasure.

Young adult horror fans (and those who are young adult at heart) will have a great time scrolling through Netflix in July 2021.
The streaming giant announced the new original movies and series coming to the service in July, as well as the library titles it will feature for the foreseeable future.
Among the biggest projects include a trilogy of “Fear Street” films from director Leigh Janiak (“Honeymoon”) and based on the teen horror franchise by R.L. Stine. The three movies will debut over consecutive weeks on Netflix, with the first dropping July 2.
The other big movie project coming to Netflix in July is “The Last Letter from Your Lover,” a time-spanning romance from novelist Jojo Moyes and filmmaker Augustine Frizzell starring Shailene Woodley and Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones.
On the archival front, some major movies arriving on Netflix include all five films in the “Twilight” franchise, the original “Karate Kid” trilogy,...

When I’ve told people that I’m reviewing the new Blu-ray release of Austin Powers, I’ve been met with fond memories, shagadelic quotes, and the question, “What is Mike Myers doing now?” It’s a reminder that Austin Powers is one of those rare movies that everyone has either seen or recognizes at a glance. Few comedies have struck this balance of cultish affection and mainstream success.
Almost 25 years later, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery remains an escapist blast of swinging silliness. One can’t help but smile at Mike Myers’ farcical creation, especially as he parades around Soho with hordes of women in pursuit. The jokes are thin, yes, but the pastiche and caricature of Myers’ script easily sustain the film’s sugary 90 minutes. I could become Basil Exposition at this point and break down the plot or mention a few gags, such as the metafictional empathy shown to Dr.

Hopefully March will bring respite from crippling snow storms and frigid temperatures for much of the globe. And if it doesn’t? Well, Hulu’s got some new streaming options at least!
Hulu’s list of new releases for March 2021 are relatively slight on Hulu originals. Thankfully, one beloved original of note is coming back this month. Solar Opposites will premiere all episodes of its second season on March 26. This sci-fi animated comedy from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland is a breath of fresh alien air.
On the movie side of things, Hulu is premiering Boss Level on March 5. This actioner will star the delightful Frank Grillo and the decidedly less delightful Mel Gibson. Speaking of delightful though, the documentary Kid 90 will arrive on March 12. This comes from Punky Brewster star Soleil Moon Frye and features hours of footage she shot in the ’90s that will depict what...
