For those looking for a true blast from the past, the "Today" show is bringing back Jane Pauley and Bryant Gumbel to co-anchor the program on Monday (Dec. 30), NBC says.
Of course, Matt Lauer will be there as well, but viewers can tune in to see him whenever they want. Gumbel and Pauley anchoring the news together is a far more rare sight lately. The two previously reunited on "Today" in January 2012 to celebrate the show's 60th anniversary.
Pauley left the show in 1989, though she continues to appear in her own monthly segment, "Life Reimagined Today." Gumbel left "Today" in 1997 to host "Public Eye with Bryant Gumbel," a prime-time news show on CBS, which was canceled after a season. Currently, he hosts "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" on HBO, a show he's had since 1995.
As for why the former hosts are returning, there's no real reason. It's not a milestone...
