Invincible is one of the most critically acclaimed animated shows on television, so it’s no surprise that Prime Video and the team behind the show are mounting an Emmy campaign in the hopes that the series will be recognized at the awards ceremony for the best in the best of television.
We at FandomWire got to sit down with Invincible creator Robert Kirkman to discuss the show’s explosive season 2, why he thinks less familiar forms of animation like Invincible deserve the spotlight, and even a little bit about what fans should expect from the upcoming season 3.

FandomWire: I think one of the really interesting things about Invincible‘s Emmy campaign is that we’re on the heels of a legitimization of sorts of superhero media. This genre is no longer on the fringes or even just “popcorn entertainment.” It can be prestige television. The Boys — another...

The 59th Academy of Country Music Awards are behind us. The show featured some surprise winners amidst expected victories for artists like Lainey Wilson and Luke Combs. As the first major country awards precursor of the year, some of the winners might strike a chord with Grammy voters.

Chris Stapleton’s “Higher” might be coming
One of the show’s biggest wins was “Higher” claiming Album of the Year. The record faced off against Morgan Wallen’s ginormous hit “One Thing at a Time,” the follow-up to his also-huge “Dangerous: The Double Album.” Wallen looked like a strong contender, not only due to his commercial numbers, but because “Dangerous” had previously taken the award home, which was significant considering that it came amidst Morgan’s industry backlash for using a racial slur. Say what you will about Warner Bros. Discovery’s business practices, but Max knows it has a very good thing in “Hacks.” The award-winning comedy, which is likely to be the only serious competition for FX’s “The Bear” at this year’s Emmys, has already been renewed for Season 4. The news couldn’t have come at a better time, as the explosive Season 3 finale, which is titled “Bulletproof” and is now streaming, sets Deborah (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) down a surprising new path as the former’s stint as the host of a late night show officially gets underway. But their relationship isn’t the only one changing as the season comes to an end — Jimmy (co-creator Paul W. Downs) and Kayla (scene-stealer Meg Stalter) embark on a new chapter, too. A brilliant, complex and altogether hilarious look at friendship, ambition and women in Hollywood, “Hacks” is...

The final episode, which dropped this week, saw Deborah Vance (played by Jean Smart) beginning to put together her new late night show, promising Ava (Hannah Einbinder) the head writer job before yanking it away. In the final moments of season three, Ava gives Deborah a taste of her own medicine, threatening to go public with a scandal that could ruin the show unless she’s given the head writer job.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Hacks Season 3 finale, “Bulletproof.”] Hacks may be three seasons in, but by the finale episode of the Max comedy series’s latest chapter, it feels like Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and Ava Daniels’ (Hannah Einbinder) story is just beginning with earlier episodes serving as the setup of the main story to come. As fans of the show know by now, Deborah’s always wanted to live out her late-night TV dreams that were dashed earlier in her career. Once she got the call that she had the job after a laborious campaign, Deborah planned to make Ava her head writer, but fears that doing so would cost her the dream, the comedian backed out, fibbing to her young protege that the network didn’t want to shake things up that much. When Ava learns that it was Deborah’s decision to rescind the head writer position, she uses blackmail to get it back,...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “Bulletproof,” the Season 3 finale of “Hacks,” now streaming on Max.
“Hacks” spent its third season bringing its two lead characters back together, and enmeshing them more thoroughly in each other’s careers and lives. And in the season finale, it bound them together for the foreseeable future — all while ensuring that their next steps together will be colored by blackmail, betrayal, and all the other elements of interpersonal comedy.
The previous season had ended with Deborah (Jean Smart) firing Ava (Hannah Einbinder) so that Hannah could grow into her voice independently; it was a state of affairs that couldn’t last long. Brought back into the fold, Ava embraces an unlikely new mission for her comedy-legend boss — getting her the coveted position of hosting a late-night talk show. Having helped secure that job for Deborah, Ava simply assumes she’ll be brought on as head writer.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for “Bulletproof,” the Season 3 finale of “Hacks.”
The hacks of “Hacks” are moving up in the world, but not without a cost.
After tireless work alongside Ava (Hannah Einbinder), Jimmy (Paul W. Downs) and Kayla (Megan Stalter), the penultimate episode of “Hacks” Season 3 saw Deborah finally land the late-night hosting gig she’d been dreaming of since having her first chance taken away decades ago. In the finale, titled “Bulletproof,” her celebration gets cut short as she starts to prepare for the onslaught of pressure to come.
It hasn’t been long since Deborah reinvited her sister Kathy (J. Smith-Cameron) into her life after cutting her off years ago for having an affair with her husband, but she then distractedly whittles down a weekend they’d planned together to a single day, during which she reveals that she secretly had their parents’ remains removed...

It felt like “Hacks” just returned (it did), but Season 3 is now over — and it wrapped up with arguably its best finale yet. Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to discuss the killer finale and the Max comedy’s Emmy chances with the season in the rearview.
“Hacks” set the stage for a scintillating Season 4 (not yet ordered) in the final minutes of “Bulletproof” when Ava (Hannah Einbinder) pulls a trump card over Deborah (Jean Smart). Unlike its Season 2 ender, no one can mistake this for a series finale. The episode also capped off “Hacks'” strongest season yet, but will it be able to take down “The Bear”? The reigning Best Comedy Series champ feels unbeatable in the top category, especially with Season 3 looming, but perhaps “Hacks” can walk away with other trophies?

This article contains spoilers for Invincible season 2 episode 8.
Invincible‘s first season finale was a tough act to follow. Mark Grayson a.k.a. Invincible’s bloody battle with his own father Nolan a.k.a. Omni-Man is already the stuff of animated superhero TV (and meme) legend. Still the Invincible season 2 finale comes closer to recapturing the excitement than it has any right to.
After Mark got his ass handed to him by Nolan last time around, it’s finally his turn to do some ass-handing himself. Multiverse-hopper Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown) immediately became one of Invincible’s greatest threats by holding his family hostage. Those stakes give this finale “I Thought You Were Stronger” an impressive emotional throughline.
And of course, there is some multiverse nonsense to enjoy as well. Here is how Invincible season 2 ends.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 5 of “Invincible,” now streaming on Prime Video.
Mark’s time to think is over: “Invincible” Season 2, Part 2 has just premiered.
The episode picked up right where Part 1’s finale left off, with Mark (played by Steven Yeun) left stranded on the planet Thraxa after Omni-Man’s (played by J.K. Simmons) capture by the Viltrumites.
Though the episode didn’t reveal Nolan/Omni-Man’s fate, we did get to see Mark step into his role as an older brother after the last episode’s bombshell revealed what Omni-Man had been up to since flying away from Earth — starting a new family on Thraxa and fathering a new son, Oliver.
Mark has spent the past two months helping to rebuild the planet, and after initial hesitation, decides to take Oliver back to Earth to be raised by him and his mother, Debbie (played by Sandra Oh). Mark,...

In any given year, British TV can be relied on to provide plenty in the way of crime drama, and 2023 was no different. Between these returning series and newcomers A Town Called Malice, Blue Lights, Marlow, Payback, Rebus, Steeltown Murders, The Gold, The Sixth Commandment, Wolf and more, crime continued to flourish on the small screen.
Happily though, that was far from all that UK TV offered this year. There was fantasy too, in the form of Netflix’s South London super-powers drama Supacell, ghost detective series Lockwood & Co., Greek and Roman mythology series Kaos, and sci-fi in Prime Video’s The Rig.
Add to all those the romances, dramas inspired by real-life, and several other book adaptations, period and otherwise plus music-based dramas Champion and This Town, and it was a pretty full slate.

Warning: this article contains spoilers for the first four series of Top Boy
We head back to the Summerhouse Estate in East London for one final time with the release of much-loved crime thriller Top Boy‘s final season.
While Netflix refers to Top Boy: The Final Chapter as season three, die-hard fans know that this will technically be the fifth run of the show, as it originally began as a two-series Channel 4 drama back in 2011 before being cancelled before its time.
Thankfully, Netflix revived Top Boy in 2017 with the help of rapper Drake (aka Aubrey Graham), who remains the show’s Executive Producer, and the two original series are also on the streaming platform as Top Boy: Summerhouse.
Like those first two seasons, the three Netflix instalments centre on drug dealers Dushane and Sully, whose tumultuous on-and-off partnership has seen them face brutal rival gangs, perilous prison stints,...

Actor Noel Clarke is looking for damages of around $12m (£10m) in his defamation suit against The Guardian newspaper.
Clarke has filed the suit in response to eight articles published in The Guardian in which he was accused of various incidents of misconduct by 20 women between 2004 and 2019.
The actor, producer, and director, best known for work such as Kidulthood and its two follow-up movies, has denied all of the allegations and said the articles have had a “catastrophic” effect on his career.
The $12m figure was obtained by the BBC, which said it had seen documents lodged at London’s High Court as part of the defamation claim. If Clarke wins the case, a judge will decide what damages he is entitled to.
Alongside claiming general damages for reputational harm, Clarke is looking for damages that cover specific financial losses. Clarke’s claim says The Guardian’s articles had a “devastating” impact on his finances,...

"If he's still alive... get him!!" Signature Entertainment in the UK has revealed an official UK trailer for an action thriller film titled Death Pursuit, also known as Bullet Proof. Both of these titles are generic and unexciting and don't offer any unique insight into what this film is about. A psychotic drug lord and his top hit man pursue the cantankerous thief who made off with his money and his beautiful wife. This Canadian production is described as "a full-throttle action thriller boasting jaw-dropping stunts and featuring action superstar Vinnie Jones." The film's director, James Clayton, plays the thief who pulls off a robbery of a lifetime but ends up with extra baggage. His only chance to escape is to drive. The cast also includes Lina Lecompte, Janvier Katabarwa, Philip Granger, and Gaston Morrison. It looks like more straight-to-vhs action trash right from a bargain bin in the 90s.

Michael Bay has a brief cameo in Bad Boys For Life but the chaotic filmmaker is no longer behind the wheel. The co-directors for the 16-year delayed third act of the action franchise, billed as Adil and Bilaii (Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah) rehash Bay’s noisy high concept antics but focus more on plot and character than one might expect. Yes, there’s foul language and loads of state-of-the-art Miami car chases and gunfights (several involving helicopters), but Bad Boys For Life seems less vulgar and less dependent on slow motion, jokey interplay and catchphrases than its Bay-helmed predecessors (whose padded out entries were all padding all the time). Bad Boys For Life is surprisingly fun stuff — crackling, playfully escapist summer fare dumped into the low-expectations market of mid-January.

Top Boy star Ashley Walters is coming to Cannes to promote his latest drama Bulletproof, but faced some trouble on his way after being stopped for having a key chain with a bullet.
The actor and musician, who was part of British group So Solid Crew, is heading to Mip TV to promote the drama, which is produced by Vertigo Films, including an interview with Deadline. But the controversial star had a slightly longer journey than first expected.

“I was two hours early and now I may miss my flight,” he tweeted. “It was a harmless bullet key ring given to me by my colleagues when we wrapped on our new show.”
