Who on earth would want to release a horror movie in November?! That’s like showing up to Thanksgiving dinner on a full stomach or going for a jog after a marathon. Surely, studios don’t purposefully plan to release their movie during the four weeks After the entire world is consumed with the dead, dying, maimed and dismembered, right? The calendar says spooky season is over (although you and I know differently) and as the grumpy neighbor in Halloween II says, the general audience has “been trick or treated to death” by October’s end.
On the contrary, November Horror has had some shockingly great runs over the years. And maybe there’s a method to the madness. If horror fans are lucky, October is packed tighter than a Black Friday sale at Target during a live in store Taylor Swift performance. Why not wait a couple of weeks...

If you subscribe to JoBlo Horror Originals (which you should!), you’ve probably caught our series 80’s Horror Movie Memories. In this show, we highlight all of our favourite horror movies from arguably the greatest decade for horror, with tons of very special guests. The decade started with a bang, with Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, the first instalment in the Friday the 13th series, John Carpenter’s The Fog, and more. Check out our feature-length examination of 1980 here, but this week, we’re looking at 1981.
While some may think the year pales compared to 1980, they might be underestimating what’s a pretty significant year for horror. Arguably, one would call it the year of the werewolf, with the year dominated by the best werewolf movies of all time, John Landis’s An American Werewolf in London and Joe Dante’s The Howling. While those might have been the biggest...

It’s been well over a year now since we learned that UK company Second Sight Films was working on a brand new restoration of 1986 classic The Hitcher, the company tracking down the original camera negative and allowing for a 4K Uhd and Blu-ray release. But what’s the latest update on Second Sight’s hotly anticipated release, here in mid-2023?
The company updates in a series of tweets this week, “Nearing end of the grading stage, a final session with Robert [Harmon] being scheduled soon. Release / Pre-order date Tbc.”
Second Sight also shared some comments from The Hitcher director Robert Harmon, who provides an exciting preview of the restoration-in-progress. Harmon writes…
“Stunned by how great it looks… beautiful work!! Really, this movie has no business looking this good considering how ancient the elements are. Thanks to everyone for dedication way beyond anything I could ever have hoped for.”

The feature debut of both screenwriter Eric Red (Bad Moon, Near Dark) and director Robert Harmon withstands time for many reasons. The road thriller offers exhilarating action sequences, an intense cat-and-mouse chase that spans the entire film, nasty deaths, and a unique relationship between the protagonist and antagonist. It’s the latter that transforms a well-executed thriller into something remarkable. […]...

Happy Friday, dear readers! While time might feel like a bit of a flat circle right now, the weekend is officially upon us once again, and I don’t know about you, but these days, movies are providing a very much-needed distraction. With that in mind, I thought I’d put together a list of horror and sci-fi movies that were released throughout the 1990s that you can currently stream for free on a variety of platforms like Vudu, Tubi TV, Crackle, Pluto TV, and IMDb TV.
I just figured we often spend a lot of time celebrating genre movies from the 1980s, so it was time to give the ’90s their due, and there are a lot of great movies from that era that you can currently watch for free via streaming.
Stay safe, stay healthy and happy streaming!

January’s home media releases are ending on a high note, as there are a bunch of great titles headed to Blu-ray and DVD this week. My very favorite film of 2019, Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite is making its debut on both formats, and if you missed it in theaters last year, Terminator: Dark Fate is hitting multiple formats as well.
For those of you who dig totally bananapants filmmaking, Tammy and the T-Rex is being released this week courtesy of Vinegar Syndrome. Vs is also keeping busy with Berserker, Beyond the Door 3, and Unmasked Part 25, and Scream Factory is bringing home Body Parts, Let’s Scare Jessica to Death, as well as a Steelbook Edition of The Slumber Party Massacre, too.
Arrow Video has put together a special edition release of Edge of the Axe, and the Warner Archive Collection is showing some love to the criminally underseen Two on a Guillotine.

The early 1990s was still the 1980s, really. Not just in terms of music, but clothes and films, too. Bombastic touches in special effects as well as in storytelling often went along with pleated pants, stonewashed jeans, shoulder pads, and other questionable wardrobe items. The point is, if you like crazy '80s films, there were plenty to be found in the early '90s, such as the Eric Red (Bad Moon) film, Body Parts. Starring Jeff Fahey, Body Parts is the story of Bill, an even-keeled criminal psychologist who badly wants to "just heal someone." Not long after speaking to an off-kilter criminal on death row, Bill is involved in a horrific accident on the freeway in which he loses his right arm....

The Horror Equity Fund have announced the latest horror-related project they have fast-tracked: White Knuckle, from one of my favourite writer/directors Eric Red, who is also the author of the action-packed novel of the same name. White Knuckle tells a gripping story of female empowerment about a woman who survives an attack by a serial killer, and then takes it upon herself to stop him from hurting anyone else.
Perhaps best known as the creator of The Hitcher and Near Dark, and the writer/director of Cohen and Tate, Body Parts and Bad Moon, Red’s previous directorial effort, 2015′s Night of the Wild, has recently been released on iTunes. Says Red:
I’m very excited to be joining forces with Marlon Schulman, Brian Herskowitz and Tony Timpone at Horror Equity Fund for my new film, White Knuckle. It’s a great team to be working with making a...

Mischief Night by Paul Melniczek
“When Rusty and his friends decide to visit the local neighborhood haunted house on Halloween night, they get much more than they bargained for, becoming embroiled in a hair-raising escapade which threatens to drag them into a living nightmare. There are more tricks than treats to be found in this old fashioned Halloween romp, and the plot continues to grow deeper and darker as old man Berger and his minions of evil seek to bring Rusty and his companions under their sinister control, their purposes unknown. In the tradition of a Halloween campfire tale, come and join the thrills and chills in this story of an October adventure gone drastically wrong.”

The Samhanach by Lisa Morton
“On a Halloween night 300 years ago, something rose out of a Scottish bog to curse the McCafferty clan. Now, in 2010, single mother Merran McCafferty finds her suburban Halloween celebrations torn apart by the arrival of the Samhanach, an ancient trickster demon. If Frankenstein's monster represents man creating life without a woman and Dracula represents sleeping with a stranger, then the werewolf is no doubt the bestiality within man. We all have some form of a dark nature encoded in our genetic make-up, the beast within if you will. Even though Vampires seem to be all the rave nowadays, I was always a greater fan of the werewolf and find them sexier than those pale, angst ridden parasites. I can't really explain it and I'm sure my attraction to aggressive members of the opposite sex has something to do with it, but that's another story. In celebration of the epic Benicio Del Toro vehicle The Wolfman, which resurrects one of Universal Pictures' classic movie monsters, I took a look at a dozen of the sexiest werewolves in movies and TV. This is not a list about the best werewolf movies ever made,...

1996's Bad Moon was the last film helmed by cult genre filmmaker Eric Red (director of Body Parts and Cohen and Tate, screenwriter of Near Dark and The Hitcher) before most had heard about the strange and tragic troubles he encountered earlier this decade. Premiering last year on the SyFy channel, 100 Feet marks Red's return to the screen: "Her Husband's Dead, and He's Taking the News Badly" reads the irresistible tagline of Eric Red's first film in 12 years, in which abused wife Marnie (Famke Janssen) learns that stabbing her sadistic spouse three times is not enough to keep him away. After serving some time for murder, she's placed under house arrest in her spacious Brooklyn brownstone, fitted with an electronic anklet, and is soon haunted by hubby's vengeful spirit (a creepy Michael Paré, looking more like Michael Myers). Hand-wringingly tense, 100 Feet provides the chills expected from the writer of...

Fango has learned that the Sci Fi Channel has set a premiere date for 100 Feet, the Eric Red-written/directed chiller starring Famke Janssen and Michael Paré. The movie has previously played a number of genre festivals over the past year and had attracted theatrical interest, but the producers opted to go with a deal with the cable channel.
100 Feet will debut as a Sci Fi “Original Movie” on Sunday, April 26 at 9 p.m. In the film, Janssen (pictured) plays a woman who is sentenced to house arrest in her Brooklyn brownstone after serving time for killing her abusive husband (Paré), and is plagued by his violent ghost. Red, who previously scripted and helmed Body Parts and Bad Moon, discussed the Sci Fi situation with us here, and he and his stars talk about the film’s creation in Fango #282, on sale in March. Simply calling Clive Barker a master of horror almost seems inadequate. A more fitting description might be to describe him as a visionary genius who has had a profound effect on the horror industry by not only setting the bar with visceral and sexual imagery but by also leaving his mark in the literary world for almost 30 years now.
While Barker himself hasn’t directed a film in almost 15 years, he certainly keeps himself more than busy these days. In fact, Barker is celebrating the bittersweet fact that The Midnight Meat Train (DVD review) is finally getting a Blu-Ray and DVD release from Lionsgate as well as the release of his book The Adventures of Mr. Maximillian Bacchus in the very same week.
For anyone who's been keeping score on Lionsgate’s muddling of The Midnight Meat Train’s handling in 2008, it won’t be much of a surprise to...

Word leaked out yesterday that Eric Red's 100 Feet , starring Famke Janssen, was eschewing a theatrical run for a premiere on the Sci-Fi Channel. Good and bad news. Good that it will be seen, bad for those looking forward to watching Red's first directorial effort since Bad Moon on the big screen. "There were two domestic theatrical distribution offers on 100 Feet , including Magnolia," Red tells ShockTillYouDrop.com. "Ghost House also really wanted to take the picture. A Sci-Fi Channel release down the line is great, it's a fine network, but this film deserves a commercial shot in the theaters. It's doubly disappointing because the film played well in its several theatrical screenings and the audiences were very responsive. What is so maddening is we...

To an old-school horror fanatic, this is pretty big news. To the rest of you, it's a bunch of babble with the word "cannibals" tossed in near the end. But remember a few weeks back when we talked about how Jack Ketchum's Offspring was about to become a movie, despite the fact that the novel was actually Part 2 to a novel called Off Season? I not-so-cleverly assumed that the rights to Off Season belonged to someone else, and also that Offspring could easily stand as a non-sequel story.
Apparently those Off Season rights did reside elsewhere, because Shock announces that not only is Off Season going to become a movie, but also that Eric Red will be directing it. Genre fans will know Mr. Red's name from films like The Hitcher, Near Dark, Body Parts, Bad Moon, and the upcoming 100 Feet, but apparently he and Jack are old pals,...

**Update: A ton of pics have just been added to the WoH gallery, so be sure to check it out!**
So Ryan (plagiarize), his wife Katy and I missed most of the first day of the show, having to do things like “work” and “travel” and stuff, but that in no way dampened our return to the Weekend of Horrors in Secaucus, Nj. Man, am I glad I made it, too; during the show they announced that the Weekend of Horrors is returning to Manhattan, the Javits Center no less, for their next show, so this could feasibly be the last chance we had to get down and dirty in Jersey!
You know things are off to a good start when the first face you see is Ted Geoghegan’s. The name might not mean much to you, but Ted and I go way back to when we both ran...

During the Weekend of Horrors this past weekend, Eric Red (pictured with John Fallon), screenwriter of The Hitcher and Near Dark and director of Body Parts and Bad Moon, took part in a Q&A to discuss his upcoming film, 100 Feet, which is still settling on a distribution deal. Once the film is out, he’s poised to return to the sub-genre he kicked so much ass with in Near Dark with a new vampire film called Nightlife.
Well, perhaps “new” isn’t the right word; Nightlife has actually been sitting in Red’s "to-do" pile for quite a while and came very close to getting made previously, but Icons of Fright reported from the Q&A that it’s in the very early stages of pre-production.
"It’s a contemporary vampire story set in San Francisco,” Red told the Fango crowd. ”It’s very graphic in terms of violence and sexuality.
