This article contains spoilers for the "Toy Story" movies.
When John Lasseter's "Toy Story" was released in 1995, it was a coup for the industry. CGI had been used in films for a decade and there were myriad computer-animated short films, but the first theatrically released, fully-computer-animated feature changed the landscape. It certainly helped that "Toy Story" was a massive success, raking in over $365 million on a mere $30 million budget. The film was also highly acclaimed, sporting a novel concept (your toys are alive when you aren't looking), an excellent screenplay, and a first-rate cast.
After "Toy Story," it felt like the floodgates opened, and a shift from traditionally animated features to fully computer-animated features occurred within the next five years. One might even recall when Disney announced that it would be shuttering its traditional animation studio and only make computer-animated features going forward. This was slightly before its 2004 film "Home on the Range" flopped.

Pretty much every popular movie and TV franchise from the ‘90s, no matter how goofy, seems to be pretty much immortal these days — from Full House, to The Mummy, to the existentially-distressing reboot of Barney we’re reportedly getting one day soon. Also, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are still very much a thing.
Even though it clearly just began as a way to recycle Japanese TV footage for unsuspecting, toy-hungry ‘90s kids, the Power Rangers-verse has continued into the 21st century in the form of comic books, TV specials and the 2017 feature-length film reboot, which doubled as an overlong Krispy Kreme commercial.
Last year, Netflix released Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, which brought back several cast members from the TV series for a nostalgia-heavy hour-long special to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary, and make everyone who watched it as a kid feel old as hell.

Just a few weeks out from the debut of the upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reunion, Once and Always, actress Amy Jo Johnson (better known to many as the Pink Ranger aka Kimberly Hart) is yet again explaining why she wasn’t part of the moment, debunking any rumors that have come her way.
In a Twitter post from this week, Amy Jo Johnson wrote, “Please stop saying I didn’t do reunion because of money Simply not true. Maybe I just didn’t want to wear spandex in my 50s…or couldn’t go to Nz for a month.Or none of ur beeswax…Jdf & I both chose not to for our own reasons. They filmed before he passed”.

At the time, there were conflicting reports about how the actor died.

The untimely death this week of Jason David Frank at the age of 49 has led to an outpouring of stories about the late actor and mixed martial artist, best known for his role in over a hundred episodes of the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" TV series from 1993 to 1996. Frank played Tommy Oliver, who started out as the villainous Green Ranger before becoming the heroic team leader, the White Ranger. In a 2019 interview with TheHipHop Lab, Frank recounted his memory of the premiere of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie." Van Damme was not in the film, but he attended the premiere, and Frank said he had been excited to meet him,...

Actor Jason David Frank, who originated the role of the Green Ranger in the original “Power Rangers” TV series and became a staple of the franchise, has died at the age of 49, his representative confirmed to TheWrap.
A cause of death was not immediately made public.
Frank played Tommy Oliver in “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” when it debuted on Fox Kids in 1993, inhabiting the role of the Green Ranger. While Oliver was only supposed to appear in a limited number of episodes, the character was so popular that Frank returned as the White Ranger and would be a fan-favorite for decades to come.
Frank and the cast would reprise their roles on the big screen in the 1995 film “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie” as well as the 1997 sequel “Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie.”
Frank left the TV series in 1997 but reprised the role in one-off cameos in further spinoffs and continuations later on.

The Red Ranger in Power Rangers is usually the leader of the team, the one who gets the most prominent focus on the team and the most action figures! But which one is the best? We tried to settle that by ranking all the Red Rangers from the TV show and movies. Sorry, Supersonic Red Ranger from the Boom Comics. You died beautifully. Sorry to Hyperforce Red as well, you deserve a burrito.
44. Nick Russell (Firass Dirani)
Power Rangers Mystic Force
Nick is not great. Mystic Force was squarely focused on him and that red blanket of his. He had few redeeming qualities besides driving his bike into the face of a monster. He turned to evil in the finale for no discernible reason!
He was so ready to give up when faced with adversity, his entire team had to rally him to keep going. What kind of leader is he?...

Playing René Belloq in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” is something English actor Paul Freeman has always taken pride in. “The fact that it just keeps giving is wonderful,” he says.
Portraying the rival archaeologist in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated film has made him a staple in the Indiana Jones canon, but it isn’t just Belloq that brought him fame. In an interview with Variety, Freeman discusses his time working on “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” the 1995 movie version of the superhero TV show, where he played the purple villain Ivan Ooze.
Freeman, 78, has had a long career that runs the gamut from Gustav Reibmann in the television soap opera “Falcon Crest” to the Reverend Shooter in Edgar Wright’s “Hot Fuzz.” As a classically trained theater actor, he’s taken on the words of David Mamet (“Glengarry Glen Ross”) and William Shakespeare (“Henry V”).

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is a cult classic amongst ‘90s pop culture enthusiasts and Power Rangers fans. Even with its fairly standard ‘90s adventure movie plot, wherein the Rangers lose their powers and have to go on a mystical quest to gain new ones, the film still sticks in the mind. Main baddie Ivan Ooze chews all the scenery, there are some impressive fight scenes, and the Rangers save the day by kneeing a monster in the balls. Yes the CG is dated, the story doesn’t hold up to some of the better episodes of the show, and it’s not in continuity with the series but if you want to have a movie night with friends of a certain age, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is a solid watch.
While many love the film exactly as it is, it didn’t go from script to screen completely unchanged.

The last Power Rangers film failed to resonate with audiences, but now the franchise will be getting another reboot with some significant changes. The lineup will be pretty different this time around and though no casting has been announced just yet, Paramount is reportedly interested in a black actress taking on the role of the Yellow Ranger.
Fans of the long-running franchise have seen the members of the team change several times, of course. Every new chapter calls for some fresh talent, and Paramount’s upcoming Power Rangers reboot will look to start over after the less than stellar 2017 film from Lionsgate.
For the upcoming reinvention, our sources – the same ones who said Jim Carrey’s Mask will cameo in Space Jam 2 and a new Scream movie is in the works, both of which are now confirmed – tell us that Paramount is reportedly eyeing a black actress to play the Yellow Ranger.

The Power Rangers are being rebooted for the big screen and Paramount plans to change things up when it comes to the lineup of individuals who’ll be making up the Mighty Morphin team. And of the many changes set to take place, the studio is reportedly eyeing an Asian actress for the role of the Pink Ranger.
Amy Jo Johnson was the first one to bring the character to life both in the TV series and in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. Following Hasbro buying the brand from Saban a couple of years ago, Paramount is working on a new Power Rangers reboot that won’t have anything to do with the Lionsgate movie from 2017. At the end of last year, we finally got some details about the project as well, with The Hollywood Reporter confirming that Jonathan Entwistle is attached to direct based on a script from Patrick Burleigh.
The plot will put a unique twist on the franchise and feature a bunch of modern-day Rangers being sent back into the 1990s, where – in classic Back to the Future style – they have to work out how to return to their own time. That’s all that THR told us, however, so it was unclear whether the film’s period setting would have any connection to the original Mighty Morphin series. We Got This Covered can now report, though, that this looks to be the case.

Paul Freeman shared the big screen with an epic cast of characters including Harrison Ford as the whip-slinging archeologist and all-around cool guy Indiana "Indy" Jones, Karen Allen as the alcohol expert and ark protecting Marion Ravenwood and Arnold Ernst as the...

The colorful group of five known as the Power Rangers were originally introduced to U.S. audiences in 1993 with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television show.
The concept focused on a group of high school students who were infused with unique superpowers and teamed up to save the world. Twenty years after the last Power Rangers theatrical release, the sci-fi series returns with an updated visual style and reconfigured storyline, as the Saban Entertainment property moves from 20th Century Fox to Lionsgate. Unlike the TV program (still running after 24 seasons), the feature films faded away after 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, the follow-up to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, released two years earlier.

The Power Rangers are huge. To many it's simply remembered as that extremely '90s kids show where teens got orders from a giant floating head to put on spandex and go fight lumpy monsters that kept popping up in the middle of the desert. There have been over 20 different versions of Power Rangers TV shows since the Mighty Morphin days of the early '90s. Granted, they pretty much all follow the same formula of teens fighting monsters, but still, Power Rangers has been on the air in one form or another every year for the past 23 years. That's impressive. As consistent as the TV side of things has been, however, there have only been two actual Power Rangers movies: 1995's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. Both...

A beloved relic of 1990s popular culture, the live-action television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers appealed to young fans who happily watched as the teenaged characters morphed into superpowered heroes, piloted giant robots and protected the world from alien invaders. The series was an instant success and paved the way for 1995's big-screen adventure Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. The show has continued through the years under a variety of titles and now it's...

This week, Entourage fans get to watch the boys bring their brand of Hollywood bro-ishness to the big screen, nearly four years after the TV series aired its final episode. Of course, it's far from the first cinematic adaptation of a TV series, but in this age of reboot upon reboot, it's notable that this one has migrated to the silver screen intact – it's a movie "sequel" featuring the same actors and characters as the original TV show.
Here's a short history of the many other TV shows that have continued their stories in the form of theatrical films.

Dean Israelite is in talks to direct the upcoming Power Rangers Movie reboot.
The Project Almanac director will take on the film based around the '90's TV show The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, reports The Wrap.
The show's premise was based around a group of high school kids who were chosen to protect the earth from an alien invasion.
They were able to morph into warrior fighters and were able to power giant robots called Zords.
The script has been penned by X Men: First Class and Thor writers Ashley Miller.
Zack Stentz and Haim Saban, Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur are all signed on to produce the reboot.
The 2016 film will mark the third theatrical release for the franchise.
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie was released in 1995 and starred the original cast.
Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie followed in 1997 but failed to have the same success the first outing had.

Because you apparently demanded it, Variety reports the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will be getting the reboot treatment from Lionsgate on July 22, 2016 and will see a reimagining of the origins of the group of teens gifted with extraterrestrial powers that they use to save the world from monstrous threats. The reboot will be scripted by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, with Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, Allison Shearmur, and Roberto Orci producing. The popular franchise debuted on Fox Kids in 1993 and has continually existed in eighteen different incarnations on television.
This new reboot is not the first time that the series will make the leap to the big screen. In 1995 20th Century Fox produced Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, which became quite the success after grossing over $66 million on a $15 million budget.

Another little slice of your childhood is returning to the big screen. Lionsgate has announced a July 22, 2016 release date for its forthcoming "Power Rangers" reboot, which is being written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz ("X-Men: First Class") for executive-producer Robert Orci (who came up with the story for the new version). As with the original series, the show will focus on a group of five teenagers who become defenders of the Earth after being granted extraterrestrial powers. The release date will pit the film against Warner Bros.' "King Arthur" movie directed by Guy Ritchie. The announcement comes only days after the Michael Bay-produced reboot of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" - another beloved franchise dating back to the early '90s - stunned box-office prognosticators with a better-than-expected $65 million launch in the U.S. The "Power Rangers" franchise kicked off with the hugely-popular "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" TV...

There was a period during the 1990s when it was impossible to avoid the unstoppable juggernaut that was the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. I never even tried; my walls were full of posters of the spandex-clad superheroes, my Christmas list was full of robot toys my parents never had a hope of buying, and my stomach was full of whatever food I’d managed to slip into the shopping trolley because it had the Power Rangers logo on it that week.
It is an understatement, then, to say that I was rather excited by yesterday’s news that Saban Brands has teamed with Lionsgate to produce a new Power Rangers movie for the 21st century. But is this going to be a good thing, or should the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers,...

It's Morphin' time! All you 90's kids out there will be excited to hear about this plan: Lionsgate is teaming up with Saban to bring not just one, but a series of live-action "Power Rangers" movies to the big screen. The new movies will "re-envision" the classic kid's show, and that's not at all surprising. The campy, over-the-top tone of the original "Power Rangers" or even the slightly more epic "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" wouldn't quite fit into today's cinematic world of gritty superhero flicks....Read more...

This morning Lionsgate announced they are partnering with Saban Brands, creator of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, to spawn a new live-action film based on the group of high school kids infused with super powers. Now all I'm wondering is who the hell is going to watch itc I did head over to IMDb and apparently the Power Rangers are still on Nickelodeon in a show that began in 2013 titled "Power Rangers Megaforce", but it has only been voted on by 479 people since first airing in February of 2013. Other than that, what attachment does anyone have to these characters of the '90sc In the press release the two companies note a strong worldwide fanbase and perhaps it's just because I'm not a part of it that I'm not aware of its existence. The release also goes on to mention Lionsgate/Summit releases including The Hunger Games, Twilight and Divergent.

Lionsgate announced today that it's developing a new live-action Power Rangers movie with Saban Entertainment, the show's production company. The "new film franchise" will "re-envision" the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the announcement says, though the exact mode of re-envisionment is not specified. The two previous Power Rangers movies — 1995's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and 1997's Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie — are both deeply terrible, so there's no real way to screw this up. What would be great, though, would be if Amy Jo Johnson could reprise her role as Kimberly, who may be now serving as some kind of teacher or mentor to the new generation of MMPRs ...

There are times when I wonder what’s in the local water over in Hollywood. I’m willing to bet that someone has floated an idea for rebooting every single TV series and movie franchise to be even halfway popular over the past 50 years or so. The latest in that ever-growing list of unnecessary reboots are the popular TV shows Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, from the 90s, and Green Acres, from the 60s.
Let’s take a look at Mighty Morphin Power Rangers first. Lionsgate and Saban just announced plans to launch a live-action reboot of the popular kids’ show that featured a bunch of high school students pretending to do martial arts while wearing brightly colored outfits and spouting impossible dialogue. The group almost always had to fight their evil adversaries by uniting their powers, resulting in some pretty bad mid-90s special effects. While the show did have...

Go, go Power Rangers! If those words inspire fond memories of the early 1990s, then you’ll be thrilled to know that everyone’s favorite costumed kung fu fighters are about to return to the big screen for an all new adventure. Saban, the company that brought the colorfully clad Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to the world, has teamed up with Lionsgate to reveal plans for a brand new live-action adventure film. Given the still-rabid fanb ase for the Rangers, and the popularity of superhero movies, this makes sense. The show has been spun off into comics, video games, toys and more since its 1993 debut. It even had earlier feature film versions, with the release of 1995’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie....

It's been 17 years since any form of the always changing Power Rangers have hit the big screen. After over two and a half decades, Power Rangers has given us a ton of Red Rangers. Which crimson warrior is the best?
The Red Ranger in Power Rangers is usually the leader of the team, the one who gets the most prominent focus on the team and the most action figures! So in honor of the arrival of the second season of Power Rangers: Beast Morphers we’re ranking all the Red Rangers from the TV show and movies. Sorry, Supersonic Red Ranger. You died beautifully. Sorry to Hyperforce Red as well, you deserve a burrito.
We leave no stone unturned here at Den of Geek. If you haven’t heard of some of these Rangers, clearly you haven’t been binge watching all 800+ episodes.
42. Nick Russell (Firass Dirani) Power Rangers Mystic Force
Nick is the worst. Mystic Force was squarely focused on him and that stupid red blanket of his.

Between the second and third seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers occurred an event that arguably set the Power Rangers saga down its road of costume and title changes every few years afterward: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. The movie saw the Power Rangers' zords and morphing abilities disabled and required them to seek out new powers and costumes, which followed them into the third season of Power Rangers (only to be replaced again quickly after that). As if in response to the movie's increased stakes, the show's writers evidently felt compelled to "up" the stakes, which in their minds translated to adding third and fourth bungling villains who call the shots along with Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd, meanwhile everything else about the show's formula stayed almost exactly the same.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Canadian screenwriter Arne Olsen (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie) has signed on to write the live-action big screen adventures of Captain Canuck. Mind's Eye Entertainment are producing the adaptation which based is on Richard Comely's 1975 creation. This isn't the first time that the character has been optioned for either film or television, but definitely the closest it has come to actually happening. Three characters have worn the maple leafed costume of Captain Canuck. Described as a cross between Captain America and Flash Gordon, the first Captain Canuck patrols Canada in the (then) futuristic world of 1993, where "Canada had become the most powerful country in the world." He was the costumed agent of the Canadian International Security Organization (Ciso). [Wikipedia] Stories featuring the character have been published sporadically over the years, but he has developed something of a fan following nonetheless.
