This Movie Is A Personification Of Liberal-istic Feminism.

Warning: Spoilers
When I watched this movie, I did enjoy the depth and heart with which Jamie-Lee Curtis "Became" Heidi. Her Struggle for what she believed and wanted, even though it went against most people she knew, was epic and noble. The trials she went through were in a word, Unique, she was forced to ask whether she was able to cope with the fact that someone being a lesbian or homosexual, twice this was asked of her. But, being a man i could not get over the fact that men are shown as always being overbearing, ego-maniacal, heartless, womanizers. However, as i said, all of the actors did a splendid job in their roles. Probably the best part of the movie was the end, when, It was shown that Hedi had realized her dream, and not only had her own major exhibit but she had a family.

Powerful Story of Human Growth

Jamie Lee Curtis gets a meaty lead role in The Heidi Chronicles, which is based on the hit Broadway play. Curtis plays Heidi, an idealistic child of 60's sexual revolution who ages from a teenager to late 30's career woman by the end. Along the way, she has her heart broken, learns the importance of friendships, and refuses to let anyone dictate how she should run her life.

This should be required viewing for young women everywhere about how you can live you life on your own terms. Just because your friends are getting married, having kids, or getting huge jobs doesn't mean that you have to follow them and be just like them. Things have a way of coming to you when you're ready for them and least expect them.

Curtis is exceptional as Heidi and it's nice to see her headline a true drama and be given something to work with. Many times, she's been typecast as the sexpot, the sassy one, or the woman in danger with a killer scream. She excels at playing an everywoman who just wants to know that she's doing the right things and making a dent in the world.

Really a good movie! About woman(actually about all people),about life, about very basic elements in everyone's life... One of the most important points is:Peter and his friend Heidi, the difference between them and the common points of them, it makes you realize something simple but important...

As phony as a three-dollar bill.

This movie was incredibly bad. It had a terrible ear for dialogue, and for the kinds of choices middle-class, feminist women have had to deal with over the decades. Why is it that so many writers get that period so wrong? I could not watch it through to the end.

Laughable

Warning: Spoilers
Its not that I don't understand the film or the message it is trying to send, its just that its very badly done. Jamie Lee Curtis delivers an awful performance but not all the blame can be placed on her. The writing is far to witty at times to be spoken by people going about their day and the plots events that occur are totally unbelievable. There is one scene in which Heidi watches a film and then a few days later the romantic scene that occurred in the film happens to her in "real life." Often times I found myself laughing when the mood of the film was meant to be serious. It just isn't good, flat out. Also I thought the film played too much on gay and lesbian stereotypes.

Jamie Lee Delivers a Tour-De-Force Performance
herbqedi18 September 2001
Jamie Lee Curtis obviously bonded with Wendy Wasserstein in a special way in this production. The life she gave to the character of Heidi Holland transcended acting and writing.

The movie profiles Heidi as she raises her consciousness and her humanity by learning from life. The movie has a marvelous sense of humor and an even more delicious sense of irony. But it never sacrifices the integrity of any of its characters to score with a gag.

Tom Hulce is marvelous as the boy who loves her but finds he also needs to get more in touch with who he is before he can commit. Peter Friedman, who played the father in the TV-series Brooklyn Bridge, is marvelous as the confident, yet shallow, Scoop Rosenberg. Sharon Lawrence and Roma Maffia are terrific in supporting roles.

The direction from Wendy Wasserstein is quite impressive for a novice. The pacing is always brisk, but never brusque. The scenes weave seamlessly together like a perfect cross-stitch.

I watch this movie in the aftermath of the World Trade Center terrorism. I desperately needed something to lift my spirits. The Heidi Chronicles did that job, and much more. It is a terrific movie.

Profound, touching and with great messages!

While a bit *soft* at times, this film is well worth watching. It holds a deep message for all humans ... "to know who we are is the key to understanding others". It also tells us that TRUE friends are what make life worth living!

Tom Hulce, winning an Emmy (long over due!) for his performance as Peter Patrone, is excellent! Not playing the sterotypical gay man, he shows us that we all have one thing in common ... we want to be loved for who we are!

BRAVO!

Meaningful, Fun, and FABULOUS
jenhopediva4 June 2001
I have to say, I think other reviews were way off base- perhaps the viewers missed the point of the film. I thought that the way relationships were approached was fresh and real and honest. The acting is phenomenal- there's not a weak link in the cast. This is a film everyone should see- but at the very least, any woman should see it. I came away feeling uplifted and changed- something I can't say after seeing most films these days.

The picture was sad and wistful, but a pleasant diversion from the current run of violent and de-humanizing films. It was curious that: !. The rental I viewed did not include a list of the major actors in the credits but went on endlessly to list everyone else who came within a`mile of the studio! Tres Strangeaux!!!! 2. On the other hand, your list of characters showed the name of some of the actors but did not include the role they played. Tres Sloppi!!!!

BLEITZ-KREIG!
Pacolito26 January 1999
In Deutschland, this is what is referred to as "Bleitz-Kreig", meaning soppy, meaningless rubbish. Although starring Jamie Lee Curtis, such a program will not show in Deutschland. Compared to a film such as Terminator 2, this piece of Bleitz-Kreig is nothing.

Well, not as good as T2.
MaRX-422 January 1999
This Television Series is what is referred to in Germany as "Bleitz-kreig". Meaning, "Soppy and dull".

If one compares such a series to a film like Terminator 2, one realises that indeed, this is "Bleitz-Kreig".

Give it a miss.
