Back when video shops and horror aisles were still common, it was hard not to be creeped out by the classic box art for The Fear. Wooden antagonist Morty attacks onlookers with his unrelenting stare. The tagline “He’s Whatever Scares You The Most” is as intriguing as it is foreboding. And while this 1990s horror oddball has found itself a fanbase over the years — albeit a small one — its sequel continues to go unnoticed. A lot of folks don’t even know it exists to begin with.
Not too long after Morty’s debut, someone gave the mannequin a killer makeover. Whether or not the update was an improvement is arguable, and reviews of this sequel are indeed more negative than that of the original. However, The Fear: Halloween Night has at least one thing its predecessor doesn’t: a clearer sense of identity.

Three years ago, we heard that genre regular Álex de la Iglesia – whose credits include creating the HBO horror series 30 Coins – had signed a deal with Amazon Prime Video and Sony Pictures International Productions to produce a series of feature-length horror films under the banner of The Fear Collection. It was said that de la Iglesia would be directing part of the collection and the entries not directed by him would still be “made under his creative influence”. The collection has turned out to consist of de la Iglesia’s own Veneciafrenia, Jaume Balaguero’s Venus, and Paco Plaza’s La Abuela – and all three films are now available on VOD, including on Amazon’s Prime Video!
De la Iglesia, who made his feature directorial debut with Accion Mutante in 1993, directed Veneciafrenia (watch it Here) from a screenplay he wrote with Jorge Guerricaechevarría. This one explores the profound connection...

Not every horror movie needs a recognizable slasher villain like Jason or Freddy to be an enjoyable watch. Sometimes, you just need the right type of oddball ingredients to catch lightning in a bottle and even then, there is no guarantee that your movie ends up in that upper echelon of hidden gem horror. Today’s movie, The Fear from 1995, had such a limited release and was overlooked by so many at the time that there is a good chance it’s the best horror movie you’ve never even heard of! While it’s lacking in a few areas, there are a couple things that make it unique and special enough...

"Batman: The Animated Series" is one of the crowning achievements of American animation. To this day, it's remembered for its atmospheric art design (homaging Fleischer Studios' Superman cartoons) and mature storytelling — even if it never forgot its young target audience along the way. The series' star, the late, legendary Kevin Conroy, is the definitive voice of the Dark Knight for a generation, while Harley Quinn, who was created for the series, has become the most successful DC Comics character who didn't originate in the comics.
The series' success meant its creative team shaped Batman in animation for the next decade. In 1993, the series led to the theatrical film, "Mask of the Phantasm," which took everything great about the series and pushed it further. While "Batman: The Animated Series" ended in 1995, it became only the first installment in the DC Animated Universe, which culminated wiith "Justice League Unlimited," which ran from...

Lily Allen has hit out at the “misogynistic and awful” music industry amid her burgeoning acting career.
The star had chart-topping success in the 2000s with songs “Smile” and “The Fear”, and has released four records, the most recent arriving in 2018.
However, in 2021, she starred in the stage play 2:22: A Ghost Story, and is now set to make her TV debut in comedy drama Dreamland. Following this, Allen will co-lead new Martin McDonagh play The Pillowman on the West End later this year.
Allen acknowleged that the career gearshift might take her music fans by surprise, but said it was actually “more surprising” that she embarked on a music career.
“It is the family business,” she told The Times, referring to her acting father, Keith Allen, and brother, Alife Allen.

When you’ve stolen Glastonbury, defined an era, released the album of the decade and exploded Michael Jackson’s cheesy pop pomposity on the global stage, what exactly do you do for an encore? Such was the dilemma facing Jarvis Cocker – arch Britpop voyeur, poet laureate of the fumbled bra-strap and Jesus sandal, once memorably described as a cross between Alan Bennett and Barry White – as he sat in hotel rooms on the tour for 1995’s masterpiece Different Class. There he was, shrouded in the anonymous dark, watching pornographic films and relating deeply to the blankness in the eyes of the performers.
“I found it fascinating wondering what happened to these porn stars,” the frontman of Sheffield alt-legends Pulp – who reform for a run of major festival and arena shows this summer – told NME in 1998. “People have a voracious appetite for porn, they need to see new faces all the time,...

Rick and Morty will be recast following Justin Roiland’s release. Adult Swim has decided to cut ties with the show’s co-creator after a felony abuse allegation. The act is said to have occurred in 2020, but the fallout has caught up with Roiland as Adult Swim decided to let him go. In the wake of the MeToo movement and a great deal of backlash from various cases dealing with sexual misconduct, many companies don’t want to risk their reputation. While the case is still ongoing, Adult Swim decided to distance itself from Roiland. Hulu, which has been hosting Rick and

The great success that Justin Roiland achieved with Rick and Morty came crashing down last month when Adult Swim ended their association with him after he was charged with felony domestic abuse. While some feared that the series would be cancelled as a result of Roiland’s exit, it was quickly announced that Rick and Morty would continue with the leading roles set to be recast. Losing the co-creator of a hit series could be seen as a blow, but a report from THR states that Justin Roiland hasn’t had “any meaningful creative presence” on Rick and Morty since the third season.
The early days of Rick and Morty were “easy and fun” according to co-creator Dan Harmon, with the two creators getting along well. After the success of the first season, Harmon was set on improving the second season even more. “And when Harmon wants something to be even better,...

On December 2, 2013, Adult Swim made an impact in adult animation with the premiere of Rick and Morty. The show had a slow start for a couple of seasons, but word of mouth and online discussions about its clever writing gradually garnered an audience. And by the time Season 3 premiered, its popularity had exploded, becoming the adult animated face of a generation. Not only were they crushing it on Adult Swim, but the show was getting fast food deals, showed up on countless products, presented for the Emmys, cameoed in movies, and setting a precedent for a slew of science fiction projects that currently permeates pop culture. However, by the time the series hit its sixth season, the chatter became less and less, then news of Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland began to surface, putting the show’s future in question. Although the series will return for a seventh season...

Almost a decade since the debut of the hit television series Rick and Morty, Justin Roiland, who is currently facing domestic abuse charges in connection with a 2020 incident, will no longer be part of the show, Adult Swim announced.
Roiland is the sci-fi comedy’s co-creator along with Dan Harmon and he famously voices both the alcoholic mad scientist and his grandson.

This came a week following the 42-year-old’s resignation from his video game studio, Squanch Games, which recently released the comedic adventure-styled High On Life.
Fans can still expect a seventh season of Rick and Morty sometime this year, though the main characters will be recast. Additional details about the recasting and prospective actors are not known, according to a statement from Marie Moore, the senior Vice President of communications at parent company Warner Bros Discovery.

Marvel Studios has discreetly edited an episode of the Disney Plus series Ms Marvel months after it was released.
The change was made to address a continuity error between the six-part teen series and the 2021 blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Both the series and film take place in the same continuity, under the sprawling franchise umbrella of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
No Way Home staged its final battle on scaffolding around New York’s Statue of Liberty, which is depicted as being bronze-gold in colour – unlike the real landmark, which is green.
The statue can be see in the background of a shot during the final episode of Ms Marvel’s first season.
Back when the episode was first released, in July last year, the statue was clearly green, prompting some fans to point out that this was inconsistent with the world established in No Way Home.

Mairie Moore, the senior vice president of communications for Adult Swim, kept it short and to the point in a statement shared by the outlet today which simply says, "Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland." While this certainly leaves some questions about the future of shows including "Rick & Morty," THR's sources confirm that the long-running animated sci-fi comedy is set to continue with the 70-episode order it was given way back in 2018. Roiland's roles as both titular characters, however, will apparently be recast.
The official "Rick and Morty" Twitter account also shared a very brief statement on the matter, which includes the same statement Moore shared along with...

Justin Roiland, co-creator, executive producer and star of Adult Swim’s flagship animated series Rick and Morty, is no longer in business with the Warner Bros Discovery brand on the heel of serious domestic violence allegations against him coming to light earlier this month.
“Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland,” a spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday.
Following Roiland’s exit, Rick and Morty will continue, with title characters, which had been voiced by Roiland, recast.
Co-created by Roiland and Dan Harmon, the hit series received a massive 70-episode order in 2018 when Adult Swim also signed new long-term deals with Roiland and Harmon. The show, which has been renewed through Season 10, has completed six seasons, with four more to go as part of the pickup.

For a good long while, it seemed that the parody had become the lowest possible form of comedy. With such abhorrent cinematic garbage piles like the works of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer dominating the form for nearly a decade, it felt like almost no one even knew how to make a decent parody anymore, let alone a good one.
Enter Dan Harmon. Thanks to his groundbreaking sitcom "Community" and its numerous episodes that parodied everything from specific classic movies to genres, he and his writers proved that parody could be more than just empty references and callbacks. Putting down-to-earth characters who go to a community college inside a pseudo-zombie apocalypse, as in one episode, is an extension of the way Edgar Wright made films first and parodies second in his early work like "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz."

The fifth season finale of "Rick and Morty" concluded with a game-changing scenario. The episode entitled "Rickmurai Jack" saw the return of Evil Morty and the Citadel of Ricks, both of which were introduced all the way back in the first season in "Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind." Evil Morty took over the Citadel of Ricks in the season 3 episode "The Ricklantis Mixup," and in the fifth season finale, Evil Morty revealed that the multiverse, as we've experienced it in "Rick and Morty" thus far, isn't quite as expansive as we think.
Instead, the various universes that Rick and Morty (both voiced by series co-creator Justin Roiland) have visited throughout the first five seasons were only those that exist within a barrier referred to as the "Central Infinite Curve," or as Evil Morty described it, "One infinite crib around an infinite f**king baby." “Rick and Morty” is getting the anime treatment.
On Wednesday, Adult Swim announced it had greenlit the new anime series “Rick and Morty: The Anime,” from director Takashi Sano (“Tower of God”). Sano previously directed two anime shorts in the franchise, “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider” and “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil).” Sano will adapt themes and events of the main series for “The Anime.”
“The multiverse-straddling exploits of Rick and the gang pose challenges to the family bond, but they always rise to the occasion,” Sano said in a statement. “It’s such a life affirming sight, and Jerry is no exception. … I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!”
The new series, from Telecom Animation Film (“Lupin the IIIrd Series”), will span 10 episodes. It will air on Adult Swim and stream on HBO Max.

The team behind "Solar Opposites," the adult animated Hulu series co-created by Justin Roiland of "Rick & Morty" fame is about to become a whole lot more powerful. One would think the biggest shadow Star Trek: Lower Decks would have to escape is Star Trek itself. An animated comedy set in the Trek universe already has a lot of baggage, not least of which shifting the franchise from drama to adult comedy. It certainly does deal with that but even more so it has to escape the shadow of one of the biggest adult comedies in recent memory: Rick and Morty.
Star Trek: Lower Decks owes a huge debt to Rick and Morty, not least of which because its creator, Mike McMahan, was a writer on that show first. Even the visuals of Lower Decks take inspiration from Rick and Morty. At first, Lower Decks seemed to really be playing into this, featuring gross out humor, body horror, and even a Rick and Morty like dynamic between Lower Decks leads Mariner and Boimler. And it was not great.

2021 brought us a lot of TV, including many new entries for Science Fiction and Fantasy lovers.
There was plenty of new high-profile Fantasy/Sci-Fi series this year that were a pleasure to watch.
On the other side of things, some returning series continued their reign of popularity.
Check out the list to see if your favorites (or least favorites!) made it!
As always, please share with us in the comments below what you think should've made the list!
Best - Chucky
Chucky doesn't disappoint, invoking cheer and disgust (only the best kind of disgust!).
Bringing back characters from the film series is a load of treats for fans, and the odd use of Chucky actor Brad Dourif's real-life daughter is brave and creative.
It's gore-alicious!
Best - Roswell, New Mexico
After two seasons that were uneven at best, Roswell came back for season 3 and was on top of their game.

It’s no surprise Rick and Morty is still going strong. Since 2013, the show has expounded on its own lore and mythology, creating an entire universe of dynamics, characters, and motivations. It’s through this universe that the writers can tell such detailed and self-referencing stories, like the one in “Rattlestar Ricklactica”. So grab your regular old plumbus, and let’s break down Season 4 Episode 5! Synopsis The episode begins with Rick giving Jerry neutral buoyancy for 10hrs while he hangs the Christmas lights, so he can jump from the ground to the roof with little effort (so long as

There aren’t many guarantees in life. Thankfully, one of them is that we will be getting new episodes of Rick and Morty on Adult Swim … many more new episodes in fact!
You may recall that way back in 2018, Adult Swim cut a deal with Rick and Morty creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon to produce a staggering 70 additional episodes of the show. The deal came before season 4 and since then Rick and Morty has generated 20 episodes, leaving fans with (at least) 50 more to look forward to.
Each season of Rick and Morty thus far has been made up of 10 episodes (save for the 11-episode season 1), so expect the next batch of 10 episodes to make up Rick and Morty season 6. When can we expect to get that sixth season? Perhaps sooner than you think!

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins has some choice words to describe movies that go straight to streaming.
“Patty Jenkins is still very unhappy about how the release of Wonder Woman 1984 played out. Her second Wonder Woman movie came out in theaters and HBO Max simultaneously as part of Warner Bros.’ pandemic release deal with the streaming platform, and it failed to get as much attention as the first flick. We previously reported that the director had referred to the hybrid rollout as ‘heartbreaking’ and ‘the best choice of a bunch of very bad choices’ at CinemaCon.”

For a century old artform with history rooted in carnivals, vaudeville, and theater, professional wrestling is often not given the respect that it deserves. Mixing the melodrama of a soap opera with feats of strength and aggression, professional wrestling offers clear, concise storytelling escalated by death-defying stunt work and larger-than-life personalities. It’s predetermined, sure, but so is every scripted drama on television. The men and women who call themselves professional wrestlers risk injury or even death to tell heightened tales of good versus evil, feeding off live audience reactions. Watch televised wrestling during the pandemic, and you’ll realize how crucial the crowd participation is to the strange alchemy.
A setting that tells such fantastical, visceral stories with real-world stakes for the performers seems like a no-brainer for a scripted series. Heels, from creator Michael Waldron (Loki) and showrunner Mike O’Malley (Survivor’s Remorse), recognizes that the world of professional wrestling is ripe for exploration.

This article contains spoilers for Rick and Morty season 5 episode 8.
It’s no secret that many Rick and Morty fans crave serialization. The saga of Rick Sanchez, the one man intelligent enough to navigate infinite multiverses and therefore encounter infinite drama, is a compelling one. And yet, Rick and Morty’s main decision-makers often resist returning to the well of Rick’s intergalactic struggle against “The Federation.”
That’s because, at the end of the day, this show is about a mad scientist and his anxious grandson going on a whole host of sci-fi adventures. With five seasons almost in the books and many more to come, centering solely on Rick’s action hero potential is probably too narrow a focus. Thankfully, the show still does throw the serialization seekers a bone every now and again.
The latest example comes in the excellent season 5 episode 8 “Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort.

The God of mischief might be off in a different timeline prepping for a second season but we still need something to put in our eyes. Assuming you’ve already binged the MCU shows WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we’ve rounded up some other great series that could scratch that Loki-shaped itch. Some of these are spiritually similar, some are great showcases of Loki’s cast and others explore similar themes. All are crackers though and well worth setting your tempad for.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read until you have watched “Rick and Morty” Season 5, Episode 6, “Rick & Morty’s Thanksploitation Spectacular.”
At this point in “Rick and Morty’s” fifth season, there are now three episodes that could have easily been called “Rickdependence Spray,” including the space semen-filled “Rickdependence Spray.“ A Rickconvenient Mort” obviously could’ve gotten the treatment solely because it actually aired on Independence Day.
And now “Rick & Morty’s Thanksploitation Spectacular” also could have possibly been called “Rickdependence Spray” simply because of a Rick particular joke/line in the cold open: “Alright, fun’s fun, but now the federal government’s gonna be pissed again. Way to go. And on America’s birthday or whatever the fuck Thanksgiving is.” What episode will be the next honorary “Rickdependence Spray?” And will that question be the only true constant in this season of “Rick and Morty?”

Spoiler Alert: Do not read until you have watched “Rick and Morty” Season 5, Episode 2, “Mortiplicity.”
It’s hard to believe that it took this long for “Rick and Morty” to go to the 1996 film “Multiplicity” for an episode title reference, but here we are now in Season 5, with “Mortiplicity.” However, the premise here is that Rick has created decoys in the aftermath of the Space Beth situation, which is quite smart considering just how often people, places, and things seem to be after him.
As Justin Roiland’s synopsis for this week’s episode asks, “Who’s even real, broh? Are you real? Broh?” That is the question du jour while watching “Mortiplicity,” and while one can assume they have the correct answer by the final, pre-epilogue scene, the thing about “Rick and Morty” is that it always leaves that lingering question. Who’s real? Who’s a clone? Who’s a decoy?...

Rick and Morty Season 5 Episode 2
Man, Rick and Morty is a weird fucking show.
I know I’m stating the obvious here but I mean it’s weird on a fundamental storytelling level because, the thing is, under all the sci-fi madness, there’s meant to be a gooey sitcom center to this series and sitcoms usually want you to care a lot about their characters. You’re supposed to get emotional highs and lows from them and want them to succeed. In short, you’re supposed to love them.
“Mortyplicity” is one of those Rick and Morty episodes that very loudly and clearly tells you that you should not be invested in these characters’ lives. You’re supposed to love them, in a way, but that way is as cynical, wisecrack-spouting, sci-fi comedy vehicles. However, you’re not really supposed to invest...

The fifth season of Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon’s Adult Swim series “Rick and Morty” premieres Sunday with an episode that promises to include another whacky adventure for mad scientist Rick (voiced by Roiland) and his not-so-sharp grandson Morty (also Roiland), and many more to come. But what you won’t get in Season 5 is a look at the Vindicators mission that Rick and Morty were famously not invited to — because that story is being reserved for the show’s digital spinoff series, “The Vindicators.”

As retail continues to reopen and consumers return to brick-and-mortar stores, “Rick and Morty” will be waiting for them. The Adult Swim animated series, which returns for Season 5 on June 20, has not only been a ratings juggernaut — it has turned into a merchandising machine.
“Rick and Morty” now boasts more than 150 global licensees — spanning fashion, accessories, home, toys and games — that generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. Airing in more than 110 countries and dubbed in 26 languages, the show was basic cable’s No. 1 comedy in 2019 and has won two Emmys for animated program, in 2018 and 2020.
“That is surreal to see all the merch,” says co-creator Justin Roiland. “That was my lifelong dream. I was like, if I can create a franchise that gets toys made, I could hang my hat up and walk off into the sunset, having accomplished my ultimate fantasy. And it happened.”
