Actor Terrence Howard was last seen in the biopic Shirley as Arthur Hardwick Jr. The actor has worked on quite a few projects despite announcing his retirement plans back in 2022. However, while the Iron Man star gears up to hang his coat, he has also reportedly been working on himself and has undergone a boy transformation.
In his appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Howard spoke about changing his diet and detoxing from the ‘parasites’ in his body. He credited his wife, Miranda Pak, to have encouraged him to work on himself and change his habits. He mentioned that since they met, Howard has had many changes that have led him to look much younger than his age.

In the first “John Wick,” Keanu Reeves’ titular character — a former assassin brought out of retirement after some goons kill his dog and steal his car — confirms his return with the often quoted line: “Yeah, I’m thinking I’m back.” And one of the many joys of “The Continental,” the new “John Wick” spin-off series that concludes Friday, is the fact that Albert Hughes is back.
He directed “Menace II Society” and “Dead Presidents” with his brother Allen. For “The Continental,” he helmed “Night 1” and Friday’s “Night 3” – essentially two feature-length movies set within the “John Wick” universe.
Not that he was totally sold on the idea, at least initially.
Before Hughes signed on, they wanted a single filmmaker to do all three nights. He described that idea as “daunting.” But then he started thinking about the Old Hollywood system, where directors would make multiple movies every year.

Chris Tucker reached a settlement deal with the government on Monday to pay $3.58 million in taxes that he owed from his biggest years in Hollywood.
According to Bloomberg, the government sought nearly $10 million for unpaid federal income tax liabilities from 2002, 2006, 2008, and 2010.
This isn’t the first time Tucker has had tax-related issues, he settled a $14 million bill with the IRS in 2014 and owed $11.5 million back in 2010.
The government sued Tucker in 2021 in an attempt to collect back taxes from several years he filed too late. Per The Hollywood Reporter, he...

In 1995, brothers Albert and Allen Hughes followed their electrifying directorial debut “Menace II Society” with “Dead Presidents,” an ambitious crime film set in 1970s New York filled with specific political references to illustrate the shameful treatment of Black veterans returning to the U.S. after the Vietnam War. Albert returns to that era as the director of the first and final episodes of Peacock’s “The Continental: From the World of John Wick,” a three-part prequel to the “John Wick” universe set in the titular hotel during the 1970s in New York City. The episodes exhibit Hughes’ usual strengths, from a balletic interaction between blocking, music, and camera movement to a bold, expressive color palette, but “The Continental” is a vastly different take on ’70s NYC than what Hughes learned on “Dead Presidents” — and that’s just the way Hughes likes it.

Keanu Reeves’ master assassin may have been left for almost dead at the end of the fourth John Wick film, but things are alive and kicking in the franchise, at least retroactively.
Or, to quote Mel Gibson, who plays the manager of the “precious” hotel for killers at the center of the ’70s and New York-set The Continental: From the World of John Wick: “Son of a bitch, where’s my f*ckin’ shotgun?”
With more than its fair share of Me Decade revolutionaries, rats (literal and figurative) and “fun fumes,” as Gibson’s feral Cormac exclaims, The Continental primarily is a throwback to the heroic bloodshed genre perfected by Ringo Lam and John Woo in the 1980s. With more than a nod or two to 2011’s The Raid, the limited series partially directed by Albert Hughes kicks bellbottomed butt in true John Wick style over its September 22-debuting three-part run on Peacock.

Tupac Shakur has been gone for nearly three decades, but his popularity has never waned thanks to family, friends and collaborators like Jamal Joseph and Allen Hughes, who are behind FX’s Emmy-nominated docuseries Dear Mama.
It received two Emmy noms last month: for Outstanding Documentary or Non-Fiction Series and Outstanding Writing For a Non-Fiction Series for Hughes and Lasse Järvi.
The project tells the stories of the legendary rapper and actor, who was murdered in 1996 at the age of 25, and his mother Afeni Shakur, a Black Panther activist who died 20 years later at 69.
“I knew Tupac when he was in the womb. I’m one of the New York Panther 21. I joined the Black Panther Party when I was 15,” Joseph, a Dear Mama executive producer and doc subject, said during the show’s panel at Deadline’s Contenders Television: The Nominees event.

‘The Continental’ Trailer Promises Plenty of ‘John Wick’-Adjacent Thrills in Peacock Prequel (Video)
Ready to return to the world of “John Wick?”
While the dog-loving assassin played by Keanu Reeves shuffled off the mortal coil earlier this year in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” the saga is alive and well, with the prequel series “The Continental: From the World of John Wick” debuting this fall on Peacock. The three-night event has all of the colorful villains, gratuitous bloodshed and rich mythology you’ve come to expect from the series, with a fresh 1970s New York setting that sheds some light on some of your favorite characters.
And you can watch the brand-new trailer above. It’s killer.
“The Continental” follows Winston Scott, played here by Colin Woodell and portrayed by Ian McShane in the “John Wick” movies, who is called back to New York from London by the Continental’s brutish hotel manager Cormac (played with scenery-chewing menace by Mel Gibson). It seems that...

Tupac Shakur was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame on Wednesday.
Shakur is remembered as an iconic American rapper. He was just 25 years old when he was shot at a red light while driving in Las Vegas. He spent six days in the hospital before he succumbed to his injuries. It is still unknown who murdered him.
Shakur’s sister, Sekyiwa ‘Set’ Shakur, accepted the star on behalf of her brother at the ceremony. Other guests will be there to honor the rapper, including Big Boy, a radio personality on iHeart Radio, Jamal Joseph and Allen Hughes.
Hughes has directed the movies Menace II Society, The Book of Eli, Broken City, Dead Presidents, From Hell, American Pimp and many more. He directed the movie Tupac: Resurrection in 2003, which was about the life of Shakur.
Joseph is an author and director who currently works at Columbia University.

Exclusive: While the title character ended John Wick: Chapter 4 under a headstone, the John Wick franchise is alive and kicking for Lionsgate. This week, Lionsgate brass got a first look at Ballerina, its Len Wiseman-helmed spinoff film that stars Ana de Armas and brings back Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, the late Lance Reddick and Anjelica Huston. The big question is, after the last film grossed over $400 million on a $90 million budget, what right minded studio would retire a franchise that just turned in its highest gross and best reviews?
Basil Iwanyk has produced the series since the beginning, and he told Deadline that a lot more will be known by September. Director Allen Hughes has evolved into a deft and imaginative documentarian, just the latest pleasant surprise in a long, eclectic career. His best-known films are the scripted fare he co-directed with his twin brother Albert, including “Menace II Society” and “Dead Presidents,” which dove deep into the lives of young, disaffected Black men. The brothers dabbled in documentary with 1999’s “American Pimp,” another film about Black men thriving in a brutal subculture, but the film’s insights were mostly washed out by its prurience.
Since then, the Hugheses have pursued solo projects, but Allen found new traction with “The Defiant Ones,” the HBO docuseries chronicling the durable and fruitful partnership between Dr. Dre and Interscope Records founder Jimmy Iovine. The brilliance of that show, which earned a Grammy and five Emmy nods, was in its format and structure. Hughes plots the key points of their professional and personal journeys, from...

Snoop Dogg’s story is one step closer to the big screen as director Allen Hughes confirmed the Universal biopic about the rapper is set to begin production imminently.
“That’s next. We’re starting this summer. I’m so excited,” Hughes told Variety on Tuesday night at the premiere of his upcoming FX docuseries “Dear Mama,” which chronicles the lives of Tupac Shakur and his mother, Afeni Shakur.
Hughes — an Emmy and Peabody award nominee whose filmography includes “Menace II Society,” “Dead Presidents,” “The Book of Eli” and “The Defiant Ones” — will direct the yet-to-be-titled Snoop Dogg biopic. Announced in November, the Universal movie is the first film produced by Death Row Pictures, following Snoop’s acquisition of Death Row Records in 2022.
“He surprised me with that biopic,” Hughes said of signing on to the film, which is billed as the “definitive” take on Snoop’s life and career.

In the early part of the 2000s, Terrence Howard was on the cusp of major stardom. He’d been around since the mid-nineties, stealing scenes in movies like Dead Presidents, Mr. Holland’s Opus and The Best Man (which spawned a legit franchise). But, it was his role in Paul Haggis’ Oscar-winner Crash that led to many saying he would be the next great actor of his generation. His role in the Sundance break-out Hustle & Flow was a sensation that nabbed him a (well-deserved) Oscar nomination, and he followed it up with excellent character work in Four Brothers, The Brave One, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, and more. But, his role as James Rhodes in Iron Man promised big things to come.
At the time, no one knew the film would kick off the MCU, and he was well-positioned, with his character slated to become War Machine in the sequel.

“John Wick: Chapter 4” is lighting up the box office and will soon become the most successful entry in the franchise. In Chad Stahelski's 2014 film "John Wick," audiences were introduced to an interesting piece of fantastical mythology. The title character (Keanu Reeves) is a notoriously efficient assassin, and he lives in a world where assassination is a commonplace yet well-moneyed profession. There is a strict code of conduct and a complex set of confusing rules and economics that all assassins must follow, lest they incur the wrath of the High Table, the ultra-wealthy guild that oversees the world's many murders for hire.
At the center of the "John Wick" mythology is the Continental Hotel, a posh residence and "safe zone" where assassins are not allowed to murder each other. In addition to the usual hotel amenities — and the booze is top-shelf — the Continental also provides assassins with their many weapons, gadgets, and high-end suits that also serve as body armor. Guns are presented by "sommeliers," who talk about the bullet...

There are very few pure action movies, a fact one only comes to appreciate once they try to compile a list like this. "The Expendables," "Commando," and the "Fast and the Furious" franchise are examples of such films in which the only objective is to blow things up in creative and satisfying ways. Instead, most action movies fall on a sliding scale and also incorporate thriller, horror, and comedic elements.

In 1995, while trying to buy a movie ticket, Dee Rees got an early lesson in the bias of film industry economics. Filling the void left by much of Hollywood when it comes to sharing stories told by Black artists, streamers like Netflix and Amazon have recently had an impressive output. The former company has now revitalized a film stuck in limbo with Monster, adapted from a novel of the same name and directed by Anthony Madler, which had its premiere at Sundance Film Festival in 2018. Unfortunately, the film falters with a clumsy script by Radha Blank, Cole Wiley, and Janece Shaffer that fails to dramatically justify the harrowing images of Black trauma being portrayed.

A new year means a new start. But in its list of new year releases for January 2021, Hulu is sending a message of…eh, we’ll get the year started in February. Not to be overly rude to the usually sturdy streaming service, but there’s not much going on for Hulu in 2021’s first month.
Perhaps the biggest release of note is something that already enjoyed a successful release for ITV in the U.K. The Sister is the lates thriller from Neil Cross (Luther) and it makes its U.S. debut on Hulu on Jan. 22. 2020 comedies Save Yourselves and Like a Boss both arrive on Jan. 1. Hulu original film The Ultimate Playlist of Noise premieres on Jan. 15 and TV series Everyone is Doing Great arrives on Jan. 13.

Hulu is kicking off the new year in style next month, with January set to deliver a ton of fresh titles to the Disney-owned streaming service. There’s a bunch of original content landing throughout the first few weeks of 2021, but probably the highlight is the incredible number of classic movies that are going up on the site on New Year’s Day. Whether you’re in the mood for iconic comedies, dramas, animated efforts or sci-fi flicks, there’s something for you on the way.
There are well over 100 films being added to Hulu’s library on January 1st, so let’s just pick out a few notable titles. The full Austin Powers trilogy is among them, and if you can’t get enough of Mike Myers, the first Shrek likewise becomes available. For dramas, there’s Robert Downey Jr. biopic Chaplin, Johnny Depp vehicle Donnie Brasco and Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show.

All streaming services go through a down period after the excitement of Spooky Season, it’s only natural. Thankfully with its list of new releases for November 2020, Hulu is making the best out of a barren pop culture landscape.
For starters, Hulu is premiering one of its major 2020 reboots this month as Animaniacs arrives on Nov. 20. Yakko, Wakko, Dot, and the rest of the Warner gang are set to return for this long-awaited revival of the animated classic. That’s about it as far as original series go but Hulu is also premiering original movies Greta, about climate activist Greta Thunberg on Nov. 13; and Run, a horror film starring Sarah Paulson, on Nov. 20.
Still, despite all the Animaniacs, Gretas, and Sarah Paulsons, the biggest hits this month might just be on the library content side of things. November 1 sees the arrival of some major TV properties. For starters, racy British...

With Ryan Reynolds’ announcement that Deadpool 3 is currently in active development at Marvel Studios, fans of the Merc With a Mouth are wondering whether the project will continue in the R-rated tradition of its predecessors, or if Walt Disney Studios will impose a PG-13 rating on the property in keeping with the standard established by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Deadpool diehards will insist that Wade Wilson only works on screen when he’s free to engage in his characteristic violence and vulgarity, and they would seem to have a point given that franchises which have transitioned from R-rated entries to PG-13 entries – the Expendables and Terminator series spring readily to mind – more often than not suffer for it.

Warner Bros. is bringing back The Fugitive film franchise, having tapped a director in Albert Hughes.
The Fugitive is getting a remake movie, in which we’ll undoubtedly be reminded of the notion that the embattled Dr. Richard Kimble didn’t kill his wife – even if an obstinate U.S. Marshal doesn’t care.
Warner Bros. has appointed Albert Hughes to direct a new big screen adaptation of The Fugitive, reports Deadline. The movie will manifest as a remake of director Andrew Davis’s 1993 Harrison Ford-headlined film, which, itself, was a reboot of ABC’s 1963-1967 television series. Hughes will work off a script by Brian Tucker, who wrote the script to the director’s Mark Wahlberg/Russell Crowe 2013 crime drama, Broken City, and will also be joined by producer Erik Feig.

As he works on the final season of Fox’s “Empire,” Hollywood Walk of Fame honoree Terrence Howard says he is preparing to say goodbye to his media-mogul patriarch Lucious Lyon, but also acting in general.
“I’m through performing for people,” Howard says. “Those days are done. That ends with Lucious.”
After years of playing other people professionally and investing his emotions into other artists’ visions, Howard is eager to turn his attention to himself and what his larger purpose in the world may be: “Now it’s time to move forward and really explore who Terry is.”
But first, Howard will receive his Walk of Fame star Sept. 24. “To have my name on the sidewalk where people will make their way in hopes of one day having some recognition, it’s humbling, because people will stand on your star and get a feel for who you are, you know,...

In his first major foray into television, filmmaker Albert Hughes has signed on to executive produce and direct multiple episodes of Showtime limited series The Good Lord Bird, starring Ethan Hawke.
The Good Lord Bird, based on James McBride’s 2013 novel, is told from the point of view of Onion, an enslaved teenager who becomes a member in Brown’s motley family during the time of Bleeding Kansas, eventually participating in the famous 1859 raid on the Army depot at Harpers Ferry. The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced it changed its name to Film at Lincoln Center ahead of its 50th anniversary celebration, a move that indicated the desire to emphasize the inclusivity of its programming. The annual Chaplin Gala — which this year honored the institution’s history rather than a specific talent — included many warm and entertaining speeches from movie buffs across multiple generations, from Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan to John Waters, Tilda Swinton, and Martin Scorsese. But one presenter struck a sobering note.

Twenty-eight years ago, John Singleton’s feature debut “Boyz n the Hood” (1991) opened a cinematic window into the bleak realities of life in South Central Los Angeles. It also created something entirely new: While Spike Lee paved the way, “Boyz n the Hood” arguably made Singleton the first studio filmmaker to find mainstream commercial success while representing a little-represented part of society. By tackling a very thorny subject in a way that had rarely been seen in a film of its caliber, it humanized its characters as victims of larger systemic issues rather than stereotypes.

“Crazy Rich Asians” (Warner Bros.) scored an impressive #1 box office position, topping $25 million for the three-day weekend and a five-day total of $34 million. Strong word of mouth and huge Asian-American audience interest fueled the box office.

Timing helped “Crazy.” Theaters were due for a comedy geared to the strong majority female audience in domestic theaters. But overdue doesn’t begin to describe how underserved the large and burgeoning domestic Asian-American audience is for films. They mark eight percent of frequent moviegoers. In the past quarter century, American studios have released only two wide pictures with Asian casts (1993 contemporary U.

Nowadays, it's rare to watch a movie that feels like it was expressly designed for the big screen. Oh, sure, some filmmakers know how to fill up the space with a constant blur of motion and movement and people and things and explosions. Far fewer, however, are sufficiently bold to compose images that take full advantage of the wide-screen experience. Albert Hughes is known for his work with his brother Allen Hughes. Together they made Menace II Society and Dead Presidents, crime films that were bursting with energy, as well as From Hell, an unusual period horror mystery that stands out in my memory more for its florid atmosphere than anything else. The Book of Eli is the clearest antecedent here; it followed Denzel Washington...

Sony Pictures has released a new trailer and poster for their upcoming Ice Age adventure film Alpha. The film comes from director Albert Hughes, the co-director of films such as Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, From Hell and The Book of Eli, which was a solo directing gig.
I'm not sure about this movie. The trailers that have been released haven't done a very good job selling me on it. My kids want to see it, so maybe that's the film's market. Maybe it will end up being a decent watchable adventure movie, but I'm not expecting much.
The story is set in Europe 20,000 years ago during the Ice Age. "While on his first hunt with his tribe’s most elite group, a young man is injured and left for dead. Awakening to find himself broken and alone -- he must learn to survive and navigate the harsh and unforgiving wilderness.

HBO’s docuseries The Defiant Ones heads into Emmy nomination voting season with considerable momentum. The four-parter about music industry impresarios Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine has already captured a major documentary award over some prestigious competitors.
In December it won Best Limited Series at the Ida Awards, defeating—among others—another likely Emmy nominee, Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s The Vietnam War. The victory came as a major surprise to director Allen Hughes.
“I was just shocked. I had told my publicist, ‘There’s no way. This is not going to happen,” Hughes recalls. “I was up against a hero of mine, Ken Burns, and other heavies in that competition.”
The Defiant Ones clocks in at almost four and a half hours, less than a third the marathon running time of The Vietnam War, but that doesn’t mean it lacks impressive scope. Hughes was challenged with telling...

No one quite puts together a heist scene like Steven Soderbergh, but he has plenty of company. Soderbergh is back to his heist roots this week with the release of “Logan Lucky,” which injects some “Ocean’s Eleven” style into a homegrown robbery cooked up by the Logan brothers (Channing Tatum and Adam Driver), who set out to drain a local speedway during one of its biggest race days of the entire year. Aided by a predictably motley crew, including the wild-eyed Joe Bang (Daniel Craig) and their talented driver sister (Riley Keough), the Logans’ plan is ambitious and fun, but it also seems like the kind of thing that only Soderbergh could cook up (it involves digging, vacuuming, cake and prosthetic arms, of all things).
