Bill Pullman probably isn’t the first actor you’d think would be cast to portray a drug-addicted sociopath who is convicted of killing his wife Maggie and son Paul, as he does playing Alex Murdaugh in the Lifetime two-part docudrama “Murdaugh Murders: The Movie.” This is, after all the same guy who played the heroic President of the U.S. in the 1996 blockbuster “Independence Day,” and his impressive career has found him playing an assortment of characters similarly defined by their inherent decency. This is also a man who has been married for 37 years – to the same woman. Not that Pullman necessarily sees himself as having a brand. “Everybody says, ‘Oh, you do’,” he admits. “But I think I’m available for (the whole of) human behavior. And it’s nice to live on the other side every once in a while.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

It’s about time! Thirteen years have gone by since the release of Final Destination 5, but we’ve been hearing rumblings that another sequel was on the way for years. A while back, Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, came on board to produce the sixth film in the Final Destination franchise alongside Dianne McGunigle, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, and Craig Perry. Back in September of 2022, we learned that the duo of Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who previously directed the 2018 film Freaks (starring Emile Hirsch and Bruce Dern) and the 2019 live-action Kim Possible movie, would be directing Final Destination 6. Last October, it was revealed that the film will be called Final Destination: Bloodlines… and now cinematographer Christian Sebaldt has shared an image that indicates Final Destination: Bloodlines will be heading into production soon! (If it hasn’t already.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

For only the second time since mid-June, Suits is not the No. 1 title in Nielsen’s streaming rankings.
That honor belongs to Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher, which snagged the top spot for the week of Oct. 9-15. Writer-director Mike Flanagan’s spin on the titular Edgar Allan Poe story (and several others by the author) drew 1.23 billion minutes of viewing, edging out the 1.13 billion for Suits.
The latter series continued its months-long run above the billion-minute mark, however, and has now compiled almost 44.4 billion minutes (about 739.8 million hours) of viewing on Netflix and Peacock since it first hit the rankings in June. Nielsen notes that viewing of Suits’ ninth and final season, which is only available on Peacock, accounted for 6 percent of the weekly tally (about 67.6 million minutes) — the highest percentage for those episodes since the other eight seasons debuted on Netflix.

The return of Loki to Disney+ didn’t cause quite as big a stir as the show’s debut.
Season two of the Marvel series premiered Oct. 5, and it gathered 446 million minutes of viewing time over its first three days and change (it was released at 9 p.m. Et/6 p.m. Pt Oct. 5 in the United States), according to Nielsen’s streaming rankings. That’s about 39 percent lower than the 731 million minutes of viewing for Loki’s series premiere week in June 2021.
Disney said that the season two premiere, which runs 47 minutes, had 10.9 million “views” worldwide, which would equate to about 512 million minutes of watch time (the increasingly standard definition of a streaming view is total viewing time divided by run time). The 446 million minutes recorded by Nielsen includes viewing of season one’s six episodes as well, so it’s hard to say exactly how much time U.S.

1995's "Casper" wasn't exactly a critical hit when it first arrived, but as Netflix viewers have proven, you can always count on the friendly ghost for a wholesomely spooktacular time. As a kid, I was happily unaware of the critical response to the movie, and haven't really kept up with the "Casper" discourse since — shameful, I know. I do remember watching it in my local cinema and being transported away from my little English town for a while. Seven-year-old me just found something mesmerizing about the look and feel of the film. Plus, it had ghosts and cool special effects, which was pretty much all I could ask for at that age. I'm not saying it's a classic of cinema, but what are these movies for if not to immerse you in times, places, and feelings that you otherwise wouldn't experience?

Like so many before and after him, Frank Laloggia had a hard time when he first started out in the film business. Yet after booking several roles as an actor, the Rochester native seemed to finally catch his big break. He had been given the chance to write and direct a feature film. Unfortunately, Laloggia’s disillusionment with the industry set in while working on 1981’s Fear No Evil. Severe studio interference was the main cause of his disappointment, and as a result, Laloggia took an extended break from filmmaking. However, the time off between his debut and Lady in White proved to be beneficial; Laloggia returned from his long leave with what many regard as the best film of his career.
With a story partly based on a well-known urban legend from the director’s neck of the woods, it was understandable when people assumed Laloggia’s sophomore film...

“The Equalizer 3” (Sony) debuted on PVOD at $19.99 with #1 placement at both iTunes and Vudu. It’s #5 at Google Play, which seems to be lagging worse than usual; its titles haven’t changed in four days, which likely affects some rankings.
Meantime, “Fair Play,” the relationship thriller that premiered to acclaim at Sundance last January, is an immediate #1 at Netflix. The streamer paid $20 million for worldwide rights, a bargain against the production costs for other Netflix Originals.
The Denzel Washington franchise, currently #8 in theaters with $86 million domestic gross, added PVOD after 32 days. “The Nun II” (Warner Bros.), currently #7 at the box office with $81 million, arrived a week sooner at 25 days at $19.99. It is #2 at Vudu (which lists by revenue) and lags elsewhere: It’s #5 at iTunes and #10 at Google Play.

Actor Devon Sawa’s career has run the gamut from teen idol to leading man. However, he realized that playing the president of the United States on the SyFy series Chucky is infinitely easier than navigating the perils of teen superstardom. Here’s why Sawa stepped away from acting after being a teen idol and why it was one of the best decisions he ever made.
Being a teen idol ‘never felt normal’ says ‘Chucky’ star Devon Sawa
Teen idols are a unique set of celebrities. They are generally between the ages of 15 and 25 and dominate magazines, which is the mindset of young fans.
Pre-internet, being a teen idol, was even more dramatic than it is today. Appearances in leading publications geared to young people, coupled with a hit song and a steady gig in movies and television, comprised most of these celebrities.

Plenty of haunted, Halloween and holiday options will crop up on Netflix in the month of October. The harvest doesn’t seem too lean despite the almost five-month writers strike that viewers are sure to feel next year, but at least the WGA and AMPTP have reached a deal, and hopefully, SAG-AFTRA is not too far behind. Luckily, Halloween and fall have a classic canon of films and TV shows that stretches back decades, and some of those staple watches will be available through Netflix throughout the month.
Movies include “Casper,” “Scarface” and the first two “The Amazing Spider-Man” films. New arrivals worth the wait include Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” starring Zendaya and Timotheé Chalamet among other heavy hitters, “Fair Play” with Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich and David Yates’ “Pain Hustlers” starring Emily Blunt and Chris Evans. There are a few standout new releases on Netflix in October, but it’s a rather quiet month on the world’s most popular streaming service otherwise!
Highlights this month include a brand-new series from Spook Master Mike Flanagan. The Fall of the House of Usher is a gothic tale loosely based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe, and tells the story of two extremely unpleasant siblings whose family dynasty ends up going to hell in a handbasket. Before you ask: yes, Rahul Kohli is in it. That’s all that a lot of people need to know here (we’re people).
Elsewhere, Netflix is dropping a few interesting-looking docuseries, including one on football legend David Beckham. It promises to be an “intimate portrait” of Beckham, and the filmmakers were apparently granted unprecedented access to the sportsman and his family while making it.

But his feature film career started with the 1995 movie Casper, which was based on the classic animated television show. Sawa famously made an appearance as the friendly ghost in his human form. In the wake of films like Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and The Mean One, it seems that no family-friendly kids property is truly safe from the icy cold grip of the horror genre. It’s always fun to imagine beloved non-horror franchises taking a sinister turn, and fan Jared Pelletier has just whipped up his own faux trailer that reimagines Casper in that vein.
“This is a reimagining of Casper the Friendly Ghost as an elevated horror film,” Pelletier tells Bloody Disgusting. “I put this together as part of a contest to showcase how this IP revival could be reimagined – but I’m really just doing this as a massive fan of horror, the Halloween season we’re entering, and as a creative outlet as we navigate the strikes in our business.”

Plot: A man from the future, now trapped in the past, tries to live a lowkey life without disrupting predetermined events, oblivious to the consequences of his foolish actions.
Review: Traveling to the past is a risky business. If you’re not careful, the slightest mistake could alter the course of history, triggering a domino effect of events never intended. Your best strategy to survive the ordeal is to lay low, complete your mission, and return to your time. In Relax, I’m From the Future, Casper (Rhys Darby) thinks rules are malleable and gaming the system to live comfortably is worth the risk of upending the universe. He isn’t looking to harm anyone, quite the opposite. Still, Casper isn’t the brightest crayon in the box, and when things don’t work out as intended, he quickly discovers it takes more than one person to make a difference.

Soon, fans of the Haunted Mansion won't have to take a trip to Disneyland to experience a scary ride. During the Walt Disney Studios Showcase, a presentation at this year's Destination D23, it was revealed that "Haunted Mansion" will soon be coming to home media beginning on October 4.
"Haunted Mansion" is based on the eponymous theme park ride, a staple of Disneyland since 1969. The film, directed by Justin Simien ("Dear White People"), features single mom Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) moving into the haunted Gracey Manor in New Orleans with her son. Soon, they run afoul of the ghosts, such as the Hatbox Ghost (Jared Leto) and the decapitated Madame Leota (Jamie Lee Curtis), now imprisoned in a crystal ball. So, they recruit a team of priests, academics, and psychics to exorcise the Manor.
"Haunted Mansion" coming to home media in October sounds like Disney learning its lesson from releasing the film theatrically in July.

I’ve been a fan of the horror genre ever since I was a child myself. Casper meets Wendy is still one of my favorite films to this day, and although it doesn’t really count as a horror film, it’s still a highly entertaining ghost vs. witches film. It’s interesting how the genre always uses children to generate fear in adults, but they can’t watch half the things they’re part of. Goosebumps is a great example of a good children’s horror that can be enjoyed by both children and adults alike. It’s got the thrill without all the gore and violence that the genre has come to be associated with today. Horror is a very creative and imaginative genre. There’s so much to be explored when it comes to instilling fear in people, but moreover, there’s so much that can be taught with these stories.

Christina Ricci has been acting since she was a child, and she doesn’t really know life any other way. Making her on-screen debut at only 9 years old, The Addams Family star has had a variety of roles and has more than proven that she can transform into any character. The Emmy nominee recently opened up about starting her Hollywood career at such a young age, saying how she enjoyed “escaping” into acting as a child. As it turns out, Ricci “didn’t like being a kid.”

New York Magazine reports Ricci got her start following a “spectacular grade-school freak-out.” Her school was holding auditions for The Twelve Days of Christmas, and the actor was in danger of losing the lead part to someone else. She devised a plan, taunting the other kid so much that he punched her, and when she told on him,...

Christina Ricci has said that she was once threatened with legal action for refusing to film a sex scene “in a certain way”.
The former child star made her screen debut aged eight, before rising to fame as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family when she was 10. When she was older, Ricci went on to appear in films such as Casper, Buffalo ‘66 and Black Snake Moan.
On Thursday (16 March), Ricci was a guest on US show The View, where she spoke with admiration about her young female co-stars on the hit drama Yellowjackets.
“It’s really great,” she told the panel. “Us older ladies talk about it all the time.
“It’s amazing to see that they don’t have to necessarily go through the things that we had to go through. They’re able to say, ‘I don’t want to do this sex scene,’ ‘I’m not going to be naked.

Christina Ricci is detailing just how far Hollywood has come in recent years.
The “Yellowjackets” star revealed that she was once “threatened” by a production over not being willing to do a sex scene in a certain way. The two-time Emmy-nominated actress applauded the industry for changing over the years, especially when it comes to working with her young co-stars on hit series “Yellowjackets.”
“It’s really great. Us older ladies talk about it all the time,” Ricci said during “The View” (via Entertainment Weekly), seeming to reference core co-stars Juliette Lewis, Tawny Cypress, and Melanie Lynskey. “It’s amazing to see that they don’t necessarily have to go through the things we had to go through. They’re able to say, ‘I don’t want to do this sex scene,’ ‘I’m not going to be naked.’ They can set boundaries for themselves that we were never allowed to do.

Christina Ricci revealed Wednesday that as a young actress she was once threatened with legal action for pushing back against filming an intimate scene in a specific way.
The “Yellowjackets” star’s admission came during her appearance on “The View,” as she and the hosts were discussing the strides that have been made in Hollywood for young actresses. Ricci started acting at a young age, becoming a household names thanks to projects like “Casper” and her take on Wednesday Addams in “The Addams Family” and its sequel.
When asked by host Sara Haines how specifically Ricci thinks the acting landscape is different for young actresses now — specifically her adolescent co-stars on “Yellowjackets” — Ricci noted that a big step forward has come in the area of bodily autonomy on screen.

If your perception of Christina Ricci is burned into your brain from the Nineties — when she broke into the public consciousness as the sullen child at the heart of the original Addams Family movie, then went on to play a sullen teen in Casper, a sullen tomboy in Now and Then, and a sullen new kid in Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain — you’d be forgiven for struggling to see her any other way. She does, too. Over the course of an hour-plus lunch on an overcast December day in Los Angeles,...

"Amblin-esque" is a term that gets thrown around a lot, and it mostly means "This movie/TV show features kids on bikes." But "We Have a Ghost," a sweet-natured family-friendly haunted house pic from "Freaky" director Christopher Landon, really has that Amblin vibe going for it. Were it not for some very modern social media-based jokes, it feels like "We Have a Ghost" could've easily fit into the late '80s and early '90s, when Steven Spielberg reigned supreme and everyone was trying to ape his style and, for lack of a better word, brand. Indeed, "We Have a Ghost" feels like the result of decades of Amblin-like pics and their various clones. It owes more than a few things to movies like "E.T.", "Poltergeist," "Beetlejuice," and even, believe it or not, the "Casper" movie from 1995.

Forrest Gump is Andrew Scott Bell’s origin story, in a manner of speaking. When his parents bought the two-disc soundtrack, packed with cuts from Bob Dylan and Creedence Clearwater Revival, he gravitated most to the final track, “Forrest Gump Suite,” by composer Alan Silvestri, who is also known for What Lies Beneath, Castaway, and Avengers: Infinity War, among countless other works.
“I remember hearing the track and lightning sparks going off in my brain,” he tells Bloody Disgusting. So, he listened to it over and over again until he learned how to play it on piano. “I’ll never forget how to play it,” he adds.
From upstate New York, Bell grew up in a very religious home. Being a “weird queer kid,” he found himself taking dance, ballet, and piano lessons. “When I was very young, I landed on art and drawing, and I was really into that.

Scott Christian Sava really, really wanted to draw Spider-Man.
As a kid, he watched the original 1967 Spider-Man TV show and “instantly I just fell in love,” he says. He was already cultivating a passion for art, so it seemed like the best thing in the world, being able to draw Spider-Man for Marvel.
That dream stayed with Sava through high school, and then to college, where his ideal major–comic book artist, of course–wasn’t a thing yet. He had to settle for illustration, but it turned out that wasn’t too bad. It focused on a lot of the same things as comic book art: intense anatomy studies and figure drawing, plus experience in media like painting and graphic design.

English actress Florence Pugh is quickly rising to the top of the list of most popular actresses. She has starred in films such as “Black Widow” (2021) and “Little Women” (2019), garnering critical acclaim for both performances.

Whether you’re chilling out before a costume party or working late at the lab (Halloween is a Monday this year), October 31 practically screams, “Watch something!”
Yes, there are myriad seasonal activities to be enjoyed away from the ghastly glow of your screens: be it bobbing for apples, carving jack-o-lanterns, summoning the undead, or an overpriced rideshare. But few experiences are as instantly and totally transporting as the ones provided by our go-to movies and TV shows. That’s why so many of us insist on sneaking in annual viewings of our favorites between social events and trick-or-treaters. No matter how scary busy our schedules may get, making time for the Halloween tales we cherish feels in some small way important.
Maybe you’re putting on your makeup to the familiar beats of “Beetlejuice” or working from home with “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” to keep you company.

John Kassir returns as the infamous Cryptkeeper, who dispenses puns and helps save Halloween, as Solar Opposites pays tribute to this horror icon.
A lot of horror anthology series have made their mark on the medium, but one of the reasons that HBO’s Tales From the Crypt remains such a perennial favorite is because of its haunting, hilarious master of scare-emonies, the Cryptkeeper. The stories told within Tales From the Crypt typically don’t disappoint, but the hacky host that introduces and bids farewell to each installment quickly became the most celebrated aspect of the series. The Cryptkeeper character didn’t make his debut in HBO’s anthology series, but the reason that this take on the fearsome figure broke through to the mainstream is because of John Kassir’s titillating performance in the role. Now, after nearly a decade of staying in his grave, John Kassir makes his proper return as the Cryptkeeper,...

Once upon a midnight dreary, Matt Groening’s “The Simpsons” conjured up a Halloween special with the modest title “Treehouse of Horror.” In the twilight of October 25, 1990, TV lovers tuned into Fox for a seasonal three-part parody framed as Lisa and Bart exchanging scary stories while an unfazed Maggie and terrified Homer listened along.
The Season 2 episode would kick off a spooky tradition that “The Simpsons” fans have enjoyed for more than three decades. The inaugural “Treehouse of Horror” chapter introduced fan-favorite characters: the aliens Kodos and Kang who would visit for every “Treehouse of Horror” to follow. Season 3’s “Treehouse of Horror II” would incorporate a special credits sequence, featuring a graveyard full of funny headstones (see “Casper the Friendly Boy” and the meta “Amusing Tombstones”) and Halloween-themed nicknames for the show’s artists, producers, and writers.

For horror fans, the autumnal season is the time of year when we all get to be the belle of the ball. For a few weeks each year, our expertise in all things creepy and spooky is valued above all other film fanatics, and we're often tasked with providing as many film recommendations as possible for casual horror fans to cram into a month or two of viewing. Sure, there's bound to be requests for "the scariest movie ever," but as new crops of monster kids grow into their own year after year, there's an evergreen need for horror movies that adults can watch with their little ones.
Family-friendly horror movies are a great way to inaugurate younger viewers to one of the most prolific subgenres in all of cinema, as well as offer a safe outlet to begin processing negative emotions like fear, grief, sadness, and anxiety. It's a...

If you were a child of the '90s, there's a high probability that you spent days watching "Casper" on VHS. Every decade comes packaged with those childhood favorites you continue to swear by, and this is undoubtedly one many '90s kids share. The 1995 live-action adaptation of the Famous Studios' character Casper the Friendly Ghost features a stacked cast consisting of Bill Pullman, Devon Sawa, Brad Garrett, and Eric Idle, in addition to a slew of wild cameos.
The performance, however, that many children gravitated towards was Christina Ricci ("Addams Family Values") as Kat, a teenage girl who inadvertently moves into a haunted house with her father after the passing of her mother. It's been nearly two decades since I saw "Casper" as a child, but I distinctly remember Kat at the center of the film. Ricci remembers her performance in the film too, but not, apparently, with much fondness.

Christina Ricci may be revisiting her role in “The Addams Family” for Netflix’s “Wednesday” series, but that’s the only kooky character from the 1990s she’s willing to look back on.
The “Yellowjackets” star revealed during the “Wtf with Marc Maron” podcast that she can’t rewatch the 1995 ghost movie “Casper” because of how embarrassing she feels her performance is.
“If you actually watch ‘Casper,’ I’m terrible in it,” Ricci dished. “People get so upset when I say that. Because I’m like, ‘No, it’s a wonderful movie.’ Because it’s a childhood treasure to people. But I am terrible in it.”
Ricci was 13 years old when she played Kat in the film based on the Harvey Comics cartoon character Casper the Friendly Ghost. Ricci showed “Casper” to her eight-year-old son Freddie Heerdegen and was reminded of how cringe-inducing the role was for her at the time.

Christina Ricci is not impressed by her performance in 1995's "Casper." In an Aug. 15 appearance on Marc Maron's podcast "Wtf," the 42-year-old actor confessed she feels she was simply awful in the film.
"If you actually watch 'Casper,' I'm terrible," she said. Fortunately, she doesn't think the movie itself is bad - just her. "People get so upset when I say that. And I'm like, 'No, it's a wonderful movie," she added. "It's a childhood treasure. But I am terrible in it.'"
Apparently, tween angst had something to do with her percieved poor performance. "There was a lot going on in my [life]," she explained. "Everything was very difficult. I was always annoyed, and I just don't think I tried very hard, to tell you the truth. Embarrassingly, I don't think I tried as hard as maybe I should have."

When Christina Ricci read the “Yellowjackets” script for the first time, she was fascinated by one specific quality of Misty Quigley: Her pettiness.
At the start, she wasn’t told much about the character’s arc in the Showtime survival drama. She didn’t know that as a girl Misty was so desperate to be needed by her peers so after a plane crash, she chose to destroy the black box, which meant the girls were deserted for months. Ricci didn’t know that, as an adult, Misty would keep a reporter prisoner in her basement and eventually, poison her with her own cigarette.
All she knew was that Misty’s job was a hospice nurse and that she used that power to abuse the elderly — a concept that captivated Ricci.

"Your mom wouldn't have let us just give up without a fight." Wtf is this!? Lionsgate unveiled an official trailer for a direct-to-video movie called Ghoster, which is a blatant Casper rip-off in every way. Aside from the 1995 Casper movie, there have been rumors that studios are trying to develop and make another new Casper movie, but nothing has happened yet. In the meantime, it looks like some crafty producer decide to make this Bs. "Enter an enchanted, ghostly world with the captivating family adventure." An inquisitive girl and her father must unravel the secrets of Echoville Manor which has held the world's cutest spirit Ghoster captive for 50 years, before Yuto the ghost dragon wipes them all out in his quest for immortality. The cast features Sophie Proctor, J.R. Brown, Josh Escayg, Rachel G. Whittle, Marlon Ladd, and Gerardo Davila. It looks amusing and I'm sure kids will enjoy it.

Can that nostalgic feeling be enough to garner an Emmy nomination? If the 2022 list of nominees is any guide, the answer is yes.
In the live variety special category, the proof is in the pudding. Per usual, the Grammys, the Tonys and the Oscars — slap and all — are nominated. However, the final two slots are filled by ABC’s “Live in Front of a Studio Audience: The Facts of Life and Diff ’rent Strokes” and NBC’s “Pepsi Super Bowl Lvi Halftime Show.”
The Norman Lear and Jimmy Kimmel live special has been nominated each time it has aired previously — first for the recreation of “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons” in 2019 and in 2020, with “Good Times” in the mix. With “The Facts of Life” and “Diff ’rent Strokes” this year, not only were old stories retold, more A-list stars — and talent from the original shows— joined in.

Clint Eastwood's quiet romance "The Bridges of Madison County" was released in June of 1995, right into the middle of a busy summer blockbuster season that included "Casper," "Braveheart," "Johnny Mnemonic," and would soon go up against "Congo" and "Batman Forever." Eastwood's film, made for a modest 22 million, was counterprogramming for every one of those films, offering a calm, mature romance among the typical summer movie thrills and violence. "Bridges" was also unusual in that it also starred Eastwood, already in his mid-60s, as a romantic lead.

The Independence Day star landed his first major role in his 30s, but has since made up for lost time. Now he’s heading to the stage in a furious satire. He talks about family, fame and how Ibsen put him in a coma
Bill Pullman was 32 years old when he starred in his first film, 1986’s Ruthless People. This is, he notes, at least a decade later than most movie stars get their big break. “The term ‘late bloomer’ sounds awfully like loser, but I guess it’s what I am,” he says. “It sounds to me like a politically correct term for: ‘You’re stupid. Why did you take so long?’”
The reason he took so long is theatre. Prior to Pullman’s Hollywood career, during which he has hopscotched from film noir (Lost Highway) and kids’ films (Casper) to horror, romcoms and a triumphant blockbuster (Independence Day...

Nowadays, a celebrity cameo in a movie typically acts as a setup (or payoff) for a cinematic universe. However, there was a time when a celebrity cameo was nearly exclusively used as a punchline, where the appearance of a highly famous public figure would be a joke unto itself. Witness Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in "Airplane!," David Bowie in "Zoolander," or ... a bunch of famous folks in "Casper."
Arguably one of the best, most delightful cameos in movie history came courtesy of 2009's "Zombieland," in a scene that writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese intended for a surprising appearance by a celebrity, which ended up...

Peacock and DreamWorks Animation are developing “Casper” (“The Friendly Ghost”) as a live-action, horror/adventure TV series, that reimagines the origin of Casper with an emphasis on his uncles “The Ghostly Trio” and his cousin ‘Spooky’:
"…’Fatso’ overweight and gluttonous is the Trio's leader, as the toughest and smartest of the three.
“Fatso's ‘second-in-command’ ‘Fusso’ is characterized by exceptional fussiness and attention-to-detail.
“The third ghost, ‘Lazo’ is the tallest, laziest and least intelligent…”

Christina Ricci lends her unique charms to a role that suits her perfectly on the new Showtime drama “Yellowjackets.” The actress, known for such films as “Addams Family Values” (1993) and “Casper” (1995), co-stars on “Yellowjackets” as Misty, who experienced a plane crash as a teen girl with her high school soccer teammates in the Canadian wilderness. An outcast, Misty found herself respected during their year-and-a-half stint in the wild, and her dangerously persuasive tactics follow her into adulthood. Ricci’s deliciously wicked performance as adult Misty has made her a fan favorite, which could carry over into an Emmy nomination for the actress.
Misty’s insecurities over being left out as a teenager manifest in some rather troubling behavior as an adult. She works as a geriatric nurse, giving her power over those she can control and going to extreme measures to control others. After Natalie (Juliette Lewis) reenters her life...
