TV writer Heidi Ferrer has died following a 13-month-long fight against Long Haul Covid-19, her husband shared on social media. She was 50. Her spouse, Nick Guthe, penned a Facebook post on May 27 "to pass along the heartbreaking news" that his "beloved" Heidi died on May 26. She was a writer for shows including Dawson's Creek, Wasteland and Black Scorpion, working in Hollywood from 1999 to 2008. Nick wrote on Heidi's blog that she died by suicide, making him a "single father" to their 13-year-old son Bexon. "The excruciating physical pain and inability to sleep from the pain led Heidi to the decision she would rather leave this...

Dark Souls II's first Dlc is due today, and a new patch has addressed a huge list of issues...
News
The first Dlc for Dark Souls II, Crown of the Sunken King, has probably landed by the time you read this, and accompanying it is a huge update that fixes and tweaks a massive range of features.
You can see the full list below (and it's some list), but highlights include a limit to the amount of souls a player can earn whilst fighting invaders, and the removal of healing abilities during any form of PvP, a common annoyance for those who follow Dark Souls' community created honour system of no healing during a fight.
A good portion of the update deals with balancing, making changes to weapons damage, armour effectiveness, and spells. Some items have been changed too, such as the very handy Gower's Ring of Protection, which has been weakened,...

As we begin the month of October, I fondly remember Halloween Havoc, WCW’s annual fall extravaganza. Halloween Havoc was the one pay-per-view I looked forward to every year since it seemed like the company was inventing some weird gimmick. Some of them worked very well (The Thunderdome or Thunder Cage before the threat of lawsuit), others had mixed results (Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal) and others made me cringe (Chamber of Horrors, Sumo Monster Truck Match). Today, I want to talk about the one Halloween Havoc that didn’t have some weird or insane gimmick match: Halloween Havoc 1990 with the tagline “Terror Rules the Ring”. The card emanated from The Uic Pavilion in Chicago, a location that had held two previous Nwa PPVs: Starrcade 1987 and The Chi-Town Rumble.

Comic Book creator Paul J. Salamoff, named one of the Tracking Board's Top 100 up-and-coming screenwriters, has revealed more about his new film project The Last Breath.
As announced in Variety, Paul recently sold his script for the supernatural horror project to producers Eric Gitter (Scott Pilgrim vs The World) and Peter Schwerin (Scary Movie 1 & 2) at Chickie The Cop Entertainment.
Salamoff spoke to the Geek Files about his latest works, telling us: "I'm really thrilled about the sale of The Last Breath. This is a project near and dear to me because I've really tried to approach the story in a unique way."
He explained: "I got the inspiration for the story from an article I read in the newspaper years ago about complete strangers in Japan who were meeting over the internet and forming suicide pacts. It was such a horrific idea and certainly lent itself to a supernatural approach.

Wolfen isn’t a werewolf movie. I should make that clear from the start. In fact, Wolfen has more in common with the monster animal genre of films so popular in the 1970’s like Willard, The Food of the Gods, and Night of the Lepus.
And like those movies (and their many nuclear predecessors like Them!, Black Scorpion, Tarantula, and other atomic creatures) Wolfen was, and remains, a movie about predation by things that are bigger, badder and more intelligent than we are. Except that the Wolfen were not created by mad science, atomic explosions or toxic waste. Rather, they evolved alongside human beings. They kill like animals, but they think like humans. And humans are, in fact, their meat animals. They haven’t come to the ghettos because they were pushed out of their environment by some manmade factor, so forget that “going green” message. Rather, the Wolfen follow human migration.

Back in January we revealed that a new Sinbad movie was in development, with screenwriter Paul J. Salamoff tapped to write the script.
Sinbad: Rogue of Mars will be the first adventure for the legendary sailor in more than three decades and will be an continuation of the franchise rather than a reboot.
I had an exclusive opportunity to ask Salamoff about the project and how he hopes to recapture the charm and magic of the three previous films: The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973) and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977).
They are personal favourites and stand out as classics, not just within the Ray Harryhausen stop-motion monster genre, but within fantasy filmmaking as a whole.
During the interview, Salamoff gives updates on the script, whether there have been any discussions regarding a director or casting, and also talks about his own favourite films in the sci-fi/fantasy genre.

Let's be honest. The Weinsteins have never be particularly well thought of by international film lovers. Long have been the years when we would gnash out teeth at the announcement that they purchased the rights to another Asian film, knowing that it may be an eternity before we would see any domestic presence, it at all. And then we would bitch some more because of their packaging, editing, dubbing, re-titling, ethnic cleansing of those films. When will enough be enough? Apparently for Feng Xiaogang [A World Without Thieves, The Banquet and Assembly] that time was yesterday.
Harvey Weinstein drew tough criticism at the Shanghai International Film Festival forum on Sunday from popular Chinese director Feng Xiaogang, who accused him of promising financial backing then backing away.
"Harvey is a cheater in the eyes of many Chinese moviemakers," said Feng, whose credits in the region include "Dream Factory" and "If You Are the One." The director, whose films are...

It's a match made in heaven. Roger Corman has teamed with SyFy to bring us the schlock science-fiction TV movie 'Sharktopus'. The movie is being billed as the SyFy version of the movie 'Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus', a title that abandons all pretense of subtlety, like 'Snakes on a Plane'.
Roger Corman has made his reputation on cheap, low-budget science fiction movies (including 'Little Shop of Horrors' and 'Death Race 2000'). SyFy (formerly the SciFi Channel) has set up its Saturday nights with the same concept. It would be surprising if that night didn't simply becoming another 'Roger Corman Presents'. At least people would then know what to expect.
Or, to make it even cheaper and show the same quality of movies, just show a Roger Corman movie every Saturday night. Who doesn't get the occasional hankering to watch the 'Black Scorpion' movies?...

Soupy Sales was a slapstick comedian who elevated pie-throwing to an art form to become a cult icon with his children’s television programs in the 1960s and 1970s.
He was born Milton Supman in Franklinton, North Carolina, on January 8, 1926. With his last name often mispronounced “Soupman”, he was dubbed with the nickname “Soupbone”, which eventually evolved into just “Soupy”. His brothers bore the dubious nicknames “Hambone” and “Chickenbone”. He began working in radio after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He began a daily children’s television show, Soupy Sales Comics, for Detroit’s Wxyz-tv in 1953. He was Detroit’s top-rated television personality by 1955, when his show became known as The Soupy Sales Show. Special FX artist, Producer, Writer, Director, Film executive and most recently Comic Book Author, twenty year Industry veteran Paul J. Salamoff could be considered a sort of Renaissance man when it comes to the Hollywood machine. He’s also written the definitive guide to Movie Sets called, On The Set: The Hidden Rules Of Movie Making Etiquette. However, what I found to be the most compelling and sobering fact about Paul is that above all else the man is a true fanboy. Like the rest of us, his work stems from his passion for science fiction, horror and fantasy. It reaches back to his childhood and the countless hours spent watching classic films, reading, and just letting his imagination run wild over the limitless possibilities imbedded in the human psyche. Of all the interviews I’ve done over the years with relative strangers, his was the most easy going and comfortable.

The thrumming beat is the first thing you notice outside the Alhambra soundstage, as the lights flash like a mad scientist's lab. It grows louder and louder, the bass bringing life to the darkened street, making leaves twitch. As you enter, you see a spiky haired guy in metal gauntlets and futuristic garb, thrashing and gyrating in a room littered with robot parts and helmets.
Since the guy resembles a young Billy Idol, you realize it can only be Spider One, lead singer of the great metal band Powerman 5000. The band uniquely blends powerful songs around sci-fi and horror concepts. The new video is one of the more ambitious tracks on their new album, Somewere On The Other Side Of Nowhere.
He gestures at the carnage around the set.
"The song is called 'Supervillain'," explains Spider. "The video opens on the last punch of an epic battle as the superhero takes out the supervillain.

Sexy superheroine the Black Scorpion is returning to guard the streets of Angel City, this time in a new comic book series.
Roger Corman's Black Scorpion is being published by Bluewater Productions in a partnership with the director, who is known mainly for his horror movie output.
The crimefighter previously featured in two made-for-cable movies in 1995 and 1997, both starring Joan Severance, and a 2001 Sci Fi Channel series starring Michelle Lintel.
The new comic book, out in November, will reintroduce and reimagine the scantily-clad vigilante who was created by Corman and producer Craig Nevius.
Nevius said: "Roger and I had always intended to create a comic book franchise based on the Black Scorpion movies and TV series.
"And with classic costumed superheroes back in vogue thanks to the success of the Batman and Iron Man movies, the time seemed right to bring back our costumed superheroine."
