This spin-off is much better quality than Kommisar Rex

I was a real fan of this whilst living in Germany. The Stocking character was spun off the successful Komissar Rex series (which bit the dust when Tobias Moretti got killed off). The Moser (Moretti) and Stockinger (Markovics) were the only well-played roles in Kommisar Rex.

I would describe Stockinger very much as an Austrian Columbo - seemingly bumbling, and at times absurd and laughable. But the strength of Markovics in the main role, clever plots, and great character acting by the support cast make this always enjoyable.

I was glad that Stockinger got this series, but sad it stopped so soon. Markovics (if you look at his record since) had other fish to fry.

Overlooked jewel

Well, I didn't watch this series when it came out on TV. But as a random buy I was very surprised. And watched the whole box 3 times! The fine sense of humor - perhaps only for lovers of bavarian and austrian humor - is well balanced. The stories often are the same: its all about murder. But I really like the development of the characters within the overall plot.

Although only being the spin off of Kommissar Rex, "Stocki" wins the race for me. Markovics does an really excellent job. I wish there would be much more episodes. But hey, can't wait to do another rewatch soon :)
